More practice notes from umbig11
Since this was such a big hit the other day (220+ comments, I think), I figure I'll give you guys a link to another set of practice notes from umbig11 he passed along to me today.

Happy reading!
The real takeaway from the RB competition seems to be regarding Walker not being in the mix.
how much of this is down to a difference if the pickup up blitzes/blocking part.

I was thinking the same thing...when it's this close, that's usually the determining factor on number of snaps even if carries are about the same.
At Michigan we sometimes claim to be the best at a lot of things...QB U, OL U, etc.
In my lifetime, I can't think of another power 5 school* that's had better pass blocking RBs and run blocking WRs than Michigan. It's just what we do. Other schools have definitely had more explosive players, but Michigan never seems to "skimp" in those areas.
I know I almost get offended when I see a RB or WR who's bad at blocking. Like how dare you put on that helmet and not know how to block? (Note: I didn't say miss a block, they all miss them from time to time...but we keep a stable of quality blocking RBs and WRs). Even Rich Rod couldn't fuck that up.
*I said power 5 school before some smart ass mentioned Georgia Tech, Army, Navy or AIr Force.

Georgia Tech is in the ACC, lol

upvote for Vinnie Smith double guns
Has Michigan ever had two RBs top 1000 yards in a season before?
Gordon Bell (1,441) and Rob Lytle (1,043) in 1975 is it.
Yep - that is the other time we've had two people rush for over 1,000.
Michigan has only had 32 seasons over 1,000 yards since 1949.
Better than Mike Weber would be extra nice. It would show that all the signing day drama worked out for the best for all concerned.
I imagine the battle between Evans and Higdon for snaps and carries will be ongoing for years.

This is where a MichiganMan14 update would be very timely.
All RBs are different in some way, but Higdon and Weber are probably going to play the same role for their teams.
Yes, and one will be better than the other. Considering everything that was said at the time, it would be awesome if Higdon was clearly viewed as the better running back when their careers are over.

Soylent Green is People.

It's Magnuses all the way down
Thunder is lightning.

"Magus" is the singular of "Magi." That's some clever word play--our source for this information is akin to a wise man bearing gifts.
Or it was a typo.
I thought you were kidding. I am now smarter by reading this website.

Said by the Magus to Adam Warlock: "You dare to challenge me. No darker sin exists between the stars."
Okay, back to football.
Kind of excited about the Higdon news, because I think Evans is already a stud, so if Higdon is beating him out, it seems like we'll have two true #1 options.

He's the 4th RB...that's to be expected. We've got LBs in Kareem's same class we don't hear a ton about because they're currently on 3rd or 4th team. It's just a matter of quality reps. They'll get their shot, likely one year from now.

The only LB in his class that we haven't hear about is Mbem-Bosse, and he was a fringe top-500 recruit, as Bush is a starter everyone is excited about.
Walker was once considered a 5-star, who has been blown past by Evans (in his class), and is also behind Higdon, who is only a year older. I'm not saying he's toast, but he certainly has an uphill climb once you throw in this year's freshmen. If we add one of the top 3 RBs from the '18 class, he could be faced with a decision if he doesn't put it in gear.
I hope it motivates him and he's able to put those questions to rest, but I do believe the questions are fair.

Not a great sign. With Higdon and Evans entrenched for a bit, and a great potential 2019 class of RB, it may be getting dark early for Walker if he doesn't get it together.
This makes me feel better about our defense than I previously did and worse about our offense.
Maybe Mone and Hurst are just too much for Onwenu. I think those two + blitzing Bush and Hudson will be too much for every team we face this season.
I was not impressed with Onwenu in the spring game, but he has supposedly lost weight over the summer. I've heard he lost about 20 lbs.
The thing about that battle is that Ruiz is also very good, and Onwenu is only a year ahead of him. Ruiz was better coming out of HS than Onwenu was.
I hope Onwenu figures it out at guard. He has so much potential. I would have loved to see him at DT but a road grading OG is fantastic as well. Having Ruiz there to push him to be even better sounds great.
