MMB Blast from the Past Roll Call

Submitted by True Blue in CO on

I know we have several MMB Alumni (i.e. Bando Calrissian) on this board but wondering who is coming home this weekend to participate in the "Blast from the Past".  I am making the trip in from Denver and looking forward to seeing old friends as it has been over 17 years since I last went on the field with the Alumni Band.

Which other MMB-MGoBloggers are making the trip in this weekend, where are you coming from, and how long has it been since your last performance with the Alumni Band?

EDIT:  I played trombone from 1979 to 1983.  First Schembecler Rose Bowl Victory amongst many favorite moments in the the Band.

I am not making the trip this year.  I used to play with the alumni band every year (I was in the band 1990-94) but I've only played once since 2005, in  2011.  Coming from out of state with small kids now can be a bit tricky.

Sounds like it will be a really cool show.

I'll be there representing the Boston contingent. First Homecoming was 1983 (also against Northwestern!) I've been an annual attendee since 2011. I'm slated to talk at the business meeting Saturday morning. I'm the short blonde woman trumpet player. Come find me and say hello!

Both my wife and I will be there as well.  We are both class of 1990, and we will be in the Stick section (Clarinets, for the non-MMB).  I can't remember the last time we came back for Homecoming.....over 15 years.  I think I am going to have to fake playing!....I'm not sure I remember how....

But going to have a great time, seeing old friends.  And, hopefully, a Michigan win!!

gkat90, I think we were roommates for my sophomore year (1990-91). Also a stick, same first name as you. Hope you and your wife are doing well and enjoy the alumni band. I'll keep an eye out for you if I make it to watch Saturday rehearsal.

I'll be there. A good half-dozen or more of the people I marched with in my section are doing it this year, which will make it even more fun. I love Blast.

My housemates and I invited the drum major to a party at our house. He showed up, got drunk, wasn't nearly as fun as we thought he was going to be, and then we couldn't get him off our porch.

I always told myself I wouldn't do a Blast from the Past until I had some sort of physical disability, like an age-related palsy or something. Reliving your college days is only really cool when you're knocking on Death's door.

I feel the same way about high school reunions....haven't gone to one ever.

But Blast from the Past feels different.  Maybe its the Michigan Football component.  The downside of waiting until you are "older" to go....you may not get a chance to see those friends at older ages.  Life is not always kind.

But reliving college days are so much more fun than reliving high school days.

I'll be there, man. I graduated in 2006 and played with the alumni band almost each year since. Last year was the first time since 1992 I wasn't at Homecoming and it killed me. I wanna go back, I gotta go back!

My MMB jacket still fits, sort of, but I haven't played the trombone in 2 decades.  Might not sound good.

I was in the MMB for the Glenn Richter experiment year (1979).

I'll be at the game (my son is a HS senior on his campus visit Friday and band rehearsal/game on Saturday), but no alumni band for me this year.

Hey gmack....so great to hear from you!  Isn't this a great blog site?  Been my favorite for 7+ years.  Its wild and wonderful to connect with you here!

I do hope to see you at the rehearsal....it would be great to catch up.  Congrats on your son, sounds like you've raised a fine one.  Best wishes....hope to see you Saturday.

I did alumni band from around 2002-2013.  Just going as a fan this year but it is my 20 year band anniversary!  If flags could have performed at half time I would have participated.  Hope to be back next year!  Looks like you all will have great weather tomorrow!
