Yeah, this is, without exaggeration, the worst pregame in decades, so maybe pick literally any other one as a favorite.

I love old MMB recordings. A few years ago, I worked with an old MMB alumnus from 1950-1952, compiling his stills, recordings, and personal recorded notes into a video slide show.
The first few minutes of the video, shots from the Dartmouth game, are online here:
Note in the recordings how Varsity nearly doubles in tempo over the course of a decade. In the 50s it was like a secondary, weaponized fight song. So great.
Some of his stills are available here: https://www.facebook.com/jbrons/media_set?set=a.525460865073.2215730.220...
Somewhere on a FireWire hard drive I have the finished slideshow...

As badly as I wanted Hoke gone, I'll always tip my cap to how his teams played vs. OSU. 40 points twice, with never more than a 1 point difference at halftime, and last year's tremendous going-for-2 call.

Johnny's and Brian's forays into Feelingsball in 2005 changed the way I viewed sports, felt about sports, and felt AT sports (to paraphrase Stephen Colbert). It's crazy that it's been a full decade and we're introducing new generations of MGoFans to RBUAS.
Read up on the classics. http://umichedme.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html ">This was after the same game as Brian's The New Math post.
Last year I was in Connecticut for a wedding and jokingly tweeted that I hoped I'd run into Johnny so I could buy him a beer to thank him. He enthusiastically replied and was totally up for it. We couldn't find time to make it work but I, as a passionate consumer of feelingsball almost as an essential ingredient in fandom these days, owe him at least as much.
I mean, goddamn.

Brian's subtle but important wording in this post notes that Stanford beating USC in 2007 was indeed the greatest upset in history. It's technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

Does this post mark a shift in no longer referring to Spencer as Orson? I'd hoped you'd hang on to that and it'd just be a charmingly dated term, like "davenport" or "icebox" or "billfold."

Small sample size, of course, but today in his first game at WMU, they rushed for 250 yards. I'm excited to see his career progress.

What happened last time we mocked them for perceived incompetence? If we continue to mock their school ads, next thing we know, the first manned mission to Mars will be five ASU grads.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

From Wikipedia on Dr. Revelli, which reads like a collection of Bill Brasky stories:
"In the 1930s, General Motors divisions, Buick and Chevrolet, paid for the band to travel to away games. In a show of appreciation, Revelli had the band line up in a “Buck – I” formation at the 1938 Ohio State game. Then, while playing Buick’s theme song, the letter "I" moved between the "u" and the "c" in "Buck" spelling out "Buick." The next morning, athletic director Fielding H. Yost reportedly called Revelli at his home at 2:00 a.m. and said: "Young man, never do that again!” Yost did not approve of the injection of commercial advertising onto the college football field."

I'd love to take you up on this, but with two family weddings in September and spending Christmas in MI too, I just can't manage another flight this year. I'll be at the Utah game though!
|1 year 8 weeks ago||My first memories of anything||
My first memories of anything game-related were in 1994. Seth Smith's 100 yard KO return in 1994 was RIGHT. AT. ME. and I was out of breath from yelling when he finally reached the end zone. Also, I painted my face for this game, but accidentally used poster paint. My face was frozen in place with a maize and blue crust and it hurt to open my mouth.
The first game I actually attended was Homecoming, 1992. Michigan beat Minnesota 63-13. I remember accompanying my aunt in the alumni band on her march to the stadium more than anything about the game.
I've been at every Homecoming since, including several in the alumni band now. I moved to Seattle this spring and it's killing me to know that I'll miss it this year for the first time in 23 years.

So that's six ACL tears in the last 17 months: Countess, Wormley, Ryan, Bellomy, Pipkins, Butt. Is this a strength & conditioning concern yet? (I have zero knowledge on the subject, so it may just be the availability heuristic in play.)

Chris Farah is a Michigan fan and an mgoblog reader. If you haven't seen "Answer This!", the movie he and his brother Mike produced with actor/professor Ralph Williams, definitely check it out. If you've been a longtime mgoblog fan you'll be rewarded with an obvious and appropriate mgoreference in the soundtrack.
|1 year 48 weeks ago||I'll be there, man.||
I'll be there for the 6th straight time (first 2 were with the MMB). We tailgate in the Farm Lane lot and take the busses up to the stadium, and we've never had an issue. Maybe because the lot is far enough away that the tailgaters are a little less intense. Waiting right outside the stadium in line for the bus sucks, but it's been fine. If you get to the stadium about an hour early, go to the north entrance to watch the MMB parade in.
