Mikey S's Play - "The Swat" - in Three Pictures
ok, I am bored. No football! (well, not this kind of football)
So I watched the Game, again, and isolated some pics of "The Swat" - you know, the one where Mike Sainristil breaks up a TD?
One fun part is how the crowd and OSU players react: the whole stadium thought it was going to be a touchdown.
Here is one angle on that, where the OSU players in the background are raising their arms to signal TD:
Here is another where you can see one guy's reaction as the ball is knocked away. In the live action, you can see that whole side of the stadium start to raise their arms in anticipation... how sweet to see those hopes crushed:
Finally, in this cut, you see two randos with a look of pain. They are right there, and they witnessed "The Swat" up close and personal:
Man, what a play. And how awesome to see an entire stadium go from near-bonkers to deflated.

The week leading up to the game I was filled with my normal OSU BPONE but for whatever reason I thought "Mikey won't let OSU win". Prophecy fulfilled.

I thought OSU had TD, my face probably had a look of total shock on it. Great job on making up the yards, for the PBU.

You should be watching Army/Navy
December 10th, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
Kirk and Brian Ferentz are DEFINITELY watching that game, taking notes and talking about copying Army's offense next year.
That game was a TOUGH watch in the first half
December 10th, 2022 at 6:43 PM ^
What a punch at the GL to stop Navy from going in. Go Army!
December 10th, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
They never should have played the game. They should have just started at OT. (/s) There was more action in those 10-ish plays than in the rest of the game.
December 10th, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
This Army-Navy OT has been 🔥🔥
December 10th, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
You should add the video of the o ja bo play and okies, side by side.
Pretty cool to see them both throw Stroud around like a ragdoll

One of the greatest plays of the season imo. Brilliant.
December 10th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
I couldn't agree more. Definitely the Play of the Game! Thanks to the OP for all the different looks. Simply beautiful.

One of the greatest plays in the rivalry in my opinion because of the importance of them having to kick a field goal because of this play.
December 10th, 2022 at 6:41 PM ^
Turning Ohio Stadium from Touchdown cheers to silence. That’s MasterCard.. Priceless.
IMO, the play of the game…
December 10th, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
And quite possibly, one of the most important plays of this rivalry.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:40 AM ^
The visible reactions were great but I prefer the roar of the crowd thinking “we’re back in this” and then immediately getting the BPONE and silence. Knowing it wasn’t Michigan fans it was happening to, I could listen to that all day and smile.

What do I love about the play?
First, effort - Sainristil never gave up.
Second, no question about an infraction or penalty. There was nothing in question about a holding, PI, or anything else.
Three, technique. I’m guessing this is one thing the staff has worked on with the players - and, it seemed to be the right thing to do at that moment.
Fourth - game changing - one player, one play, essentially - it took points off the board since Buckeyes and their fans (as the pics show) were counting it as a TD.
This is an example of what I refer to as “quality of execution”. Great play by Sainristil. Go Blue!

Glory in Slo-Mo:

According to the rosters - Stover (the Bucks TE / receiver) is six inches taller than Sainristil.
"Oh Captain! My Captain!" Leadership by example with an exemplary play.
Go Blue!
December 10th, 2022 at 6:42 PM ^
I think next year Sainristill will be a fucking monster.
December 10th, 2022 at 7:57 PM ^
Peppers 2.0
December 10th, 2022 at 8:27 PM ^
Sainristil is already way better in coverage than Peppers was. As great as he was.
December 11th, 2022 at 2:21 AM ^
Defense as whole is gonna be a terror. Potentially losing JTTurner, Mike Morris , Mazi, Barrett and Gemon. Hoping Nikhai is back and we get another CB opposite Will. DL has depth everywhere.
December 10th, 2022 at 6:43 PM ^
Mikey made so much ground in a little time and goes up against a monster dude. He still manages to rip it out of a sure TD. It was definitely advantage receiver. Yet, an incredible play made it no so. We will be taking about Mikey for a long time.
December 10th, 2022 at 6:44 PM ^
So many great plays by our defense the last two years to keep an osu out of the end zone. As Coach Minter says, 4 point plays.
Game changers 👍

This play feels like what the Trey Burke block should have been with good officiating.

Too soon.
December 11th, 2022 at 2:48 AM ^
in the year 2087 it will be too soon
December 10th, 2022 at 7:03 PM ^
I will remember this play as it happened in real time until the day I die. It was as if God was watching and laid his invisible hand to help elevate Little Mikey up to be able to swat that ball out of Stover's hands.
Let's just hope Stover isn't getting hate mail like this OSU TE did long ago

This is the Lord’s work. Esp. that last frame.

Sainristil Was Always There (even when it seemed like he wasn’t)
December 10th, 2022 at 7:15 PM ^
The Swat has to be framed and placed in SH (auto correct won’t let me spell Bo’s last name.)
December 10th, 2022 at 7:26 PM ^
The schadenfreude that keeps giving.
Glorious
December 10th, 2022 at 7:54 PM ^
I mean, I'm not gonna lie - Stroud delivered a really nice ball there. It's throws like that which cause people to think he's a first-round QB. By the time that ball hit the apex of its trajectory I could tell it was gonna be a touchdown, and I and everyone watching with me just let out a big groan. That's what makes this play so great - it was a great play by the offense and just an even better one by Sainristil.
December 10th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
It was the ultimate "Oh no!" to "Oh yeah!" moment!
December 10th, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
I upvoted this threads OP. The only complaint is that we didn’t see the actual swat. Great play.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:22 AM ^
It was the proverbial 'only place where his receiver can get it and only a perfect play can break it up' that we always talk about. I'm with everyone else thinking it was a TD when the ball was in the air. What a play!
December 10th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
I’m still watching the game. Did another viewing today and probably the B60 version tonight.
December 10th, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
Yeah when I'm down and troubled and need a helping hand, I call out James Taylor's name and put this game on.
December 10th, 2022 at 10:25 PM ^
Good Ol' Lovin Man JT!
(James Taylor that is, not that OSU QB who was short)
December 10th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
best pass break up in UM history?
December 10th, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
I can’t think of any that weren’t interceptions. Maybe one in the 1998 Rose Bowl? None come to mind but if M did have a breakup in that final series it certainly had a lot riding on it.
December 11th, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
The one against Wisconsin in the night game (2018 I think) was pretty great too. It prevented what would have been a game winning TD.
December 10th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
This might be the best post ever on MGoblog. Well done.
December 10th, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
Not shown; the sharp object he used to let the air out of the stadium. That picture ranks up there with any of the iconic Michigan Football Pictures.
