Mikey S's Play - "The Swat" - in Three Pictures

ok, I am bored. No football! (well, not this kind of football)

So I watched the Game, again, and isolated some pics of "The Swat" - you know, the one where Mike Sainristil breaks up a TD?

One fun part is how the crowd and OSU players react: the whole stadium thought it was going to be a touchdown.

Here is one angle on that, where the OSU players in the background are raising their arms to signal TD:

Here is another where you can see one guy's reaction as the ball is knocked away. In the live action, you can see that whole side of the stadium start to raise their arms in anticipation... how sweet to see those hopes crushed:

Finally, in this cut, you see two randos with a look of pain. They are right there, and they witnessed "The Swat" up close and personal:

Man, what a play. And how awesome to see an entire stadium go from near-bonkers to deflated.

The week leading up to the game I was filled with my normal OSU BPONE but for whatever reason I thought "Mikey won't let OSU win". Prophecy fulfilled.

What do I love about the play?

First, effort - Sainristil never gave up.

Second, no question about an infraction or penalty.  There was nothing in question about a holding, PI, or anything else.

Three, technique.  I’m guessing this is one thing the staff has worked on with the players - and, it seemed to be the right thing to do at that moment.

Fourth - game changing - one player, one play, essentially - it took points off the board since Buckeyes and their fans (as the pics show) were counting it as a TD.

This is an example of what I refer to as “quality of execution”.  Great play by Sainristil.  Go Blue!

Mikey made so much ground in a little time and goes up against a monster dude. He still manages to rip it out of a sure TD. It was definitely advantage receiver. Yet, an incredible play made it no so. We will be taking about Mikey for a long time.

I mean, I'm not gonna lie - Stroud delivered a really nice ball there.  It's throws like that which cause people to think he's a first-round QB.  By the time that ball hit the apex of its trajectory I could tell it was gonna be a touchdown, and I and everyone watching with me just let out a big groan.  That's what makes this play so great - it was a great play by the offense and just an even better one by Sainristil.

Not shown; the sharp object he used to let the air out of the stadium. That picture ranks up there with any of the iconic Michigan Football Pictures.
