Mike Tyson won't be charged in plane incident

I am glad to see justice prevail in this instance.  Tyson was provoked and has a right to privacy let alone be actually physically confronted.  Seems that the person getting punched did at least one right thing opting not to press charges.  Tyson at even his advanced age can deliver a punch.

Good for Iron Mike - he didn't deserve to be punished for defending himself and his privacy.  The douche he flattened was clearly angling for a punch and a payday.  But the payday was foiled by his own actions and he finally made a good decision by declining to press charges.

He should turn around and sue that guy for giving everyone a free Tyson fight. I still remember the pay-per-view rates when he was in his prime. The only difference is this fight lastest a little longer.

“Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”- Iron Mike Tyson.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with this. Yes, the guy was a douchebag. He deserved to be removed from the flight for harassing another passenger. Physical violence against him was not the solution, especially by a professional fighter. Tyson assaulted the guy. Sure, he deserved it, but that doesn't make it right.

Or the dude didn't press charges because he was mortified by his own behavior, didn't want to have to explain why he was harassing Tyson, and didn't want to face Tyson again having behaved the way he did during the previous encounter.

The thing is, if the guy just keeps his mouth shut on the plane, it becomes a cool story when he gets home: "Hey, guess who was sitting in front of me on the plane."

Some people deserve to get punched.

Getting punched in the face is a good deterrent to asshole behavior. I'm not a big promoter of violence, but the threat of getting punched in the face is a good reason for a lot of people to choose their words and actions appropriately.

If nobody ever got punched in the face for being a dick, then assholes wouldn't be afraid to be assholes.

"I'm going to call airport security on you!" doesn't instill the same kind of fear as "I'm going to punch you in your ugly face if you don't leave me alone."

The occasional publicized punch in the face is good for society.

He admitted to his crime, went through the legal system, and did his time, as determined by a court.

I'm not saying that is by any means a pass (it is certainly not), but we currently have recorded sex offenders in our government who are literally making moral decisions for the rest of us.

So, I'd say Tyson has actually been held more responsible for his crimes than most.

He didn't admit to his crime, he steadfastly, to this day, denies that he is a rapist.

He paid his debt to society, which is absolutely true. I just don't see any reason to give the man the benefit of the doubt or to harbor a lone positive feeling for him. He has been able to enjoy the spoils of his life seemingly without impediment.

What beggers belief though is the positive sentiment the man carries around through life.

well, not without impediment canada.  for instance, he isn't allowed to go to your country because of his record.

curious why you are choosing this hill to euphemistically die on.  i think most people think tyson is probably about 37% or more crazy and yeah, he did some bad stuff.  but in this instance where there is a video which takes it out of the 'he said, she said' mode, he was clearly behaving pretty rationally.  i would've slugged the guy, too.  so would many others here.  might not be the best decision but it is still in the realm of reasonable reactions and, most importantly, entirely legal.

So a cool story Bro.  I was at an awards trip for my employer in Miami that week.  The flight he was on where that occurred was headed to Miami.  I saw what occurred on the news at night.  Next day at the hotel I went to the hotel gym in the morning.  Was on the treadmill, and about a half mile in looked over and there mike tyson was on the treadmill.  I didn't say or do anything, just kept running did my workout, and left.  one of the wives of another employee at the awards night said she was on the elevator with him after that workout, and he was dripping a pool of sweat in the elevator and did not want to make eye contact with him as she was scared once she figured out who it was and she was in the elevator alone with him.  That's all I got, wish it was cooler than that, but it was just completely random.  I was like so apparently you did not get arrested.

I appreciate you not talking to him. I don't understand people who go up and chat with famous people like they are their friend or something. I know they get paid millions of dollars, and part of that is to put up with being accosted by randos, but I'd hope most of us don't contribute to the problem.

The guy was an idiot.

His other hobbies likely include yanking on the tails of pittbulls and putting his head in the shark tank to get a closer look.

It's like he was auditioning for the next Jackass movie.

How did it start? I haven't watched the video but I've seen plenty of pissy comments and behavior that happens during boarding - someone starts moving overhead bags around or takes the wrong seat. Not as many problems after you land unless everyone is standing for 5+ minutes and they aren't letting anyone off the plane yet.

Pre-covid, I spend 1/3 of my work year on the road, and can confirm, boarding these days is a shit show.

Every since they began charging for bags, there isn't enough overhead space for everyone, leading to the issues you brought up. I've seen quite a lot of confrontations on plans (once again, pre-covid), and a couple of physical altercations, and practically all of them were over lack of overhead space.

Pretty much this. The bags are huge now and the worst case scenario is the flight attendants will reluctantly stow your oversized bag somewhere special anyway. I'm at the point now where I'm only packing a computer bag with enough space for a shower bag and a couple changes of underwear. In a pinch, I can jam it under my seat.
