Mike Martin is a Good Guy

Submitted by jokenjin on

I just wanted to say that I was happy to see Mike Martin be such a nice guy. It's refreshing to see our football players interact with the fans in such a positive manner. During the Big Chill, Mike Marin was in Section 9 and someone behind me recognized him and called out "Mike Martin!" Mike turned around and said hi and glad handed for a little bit before headed over to his seat.

Every time Mike went up and left to get food or something, the same fan would always shout out "Mike Martin." Now, it seems that would get annoying a little bit, but Mike took it all in stride and always acknowledged the guy with a smile.

While MIke was making his way up at the end of the game, the guy behind me's little brother was wondering if Mike would take a picture with him. He was nervous when Mike walked by but Mike saw him and said hi and then the kid asked to take a picture and Mike said "of course" and took a picture and shook the kid's hand.

Now, is this something crazy that would have never happened? No, but it's refreshing to see our players be good guys to the fans that recognize him (and who may or may not have been annoying him). I like seeing that from our players.

This probably didn't deserve it's own forum topic, but still - great to see.

I hope he dominates him some Relf on January 1st.

This absolutely deserved its own thread, I love hearing about these kids. I swear, every time I think I've found the classiest, nicest guy on the team, something like this comes up. It's not a bad problem to have.

Nice to know that the beast has a heart that shows some kindness even though he won't hesitate to smash a competitor to the turf. In both cases I'm sure he's smiling.

No need to paint with such a big brush. The stereotypes you are implying are probably based on next to nothing. Where have I heard a group of people mock a student body for being arrogant asses before? It's one thing to rag on a rival high school, but at some point we have to grow up and form our own opinions.

We went to high school together, but I don't see him around often. He said no one was really concentrating on the coaching situation. He was just pumped to be in pads again on the field and can't wait until the team gets to Florida. He sounded most excited about the Oakleys. Among other things we discussed: his excitement at some big snowbank on the field and his subsequent disappointment that he couldn't go jump in it, and his insatiable hunger for some curly fries as soon as he saw that mascot

And resisted yelling "Mike Martin!" and asking him about his ankles (also saw him out that night FWIW)

But on his way into the stadium he sounded so excited to be in the stands. He was walking down the aisle saying "lets go blue!" he just seemed so pumped

As a recent grad I couldn't have had the little-kid-asking-for-a-picture moment, but he was awesome

fortunate enough to go to a practice earlier in the season.  All the players treated him great. Many came up to him unsolicited and introduced themselves to him. It was a thrill I know he will remember for all time.

He is an awesome kid. I tailgated next to his parents before the ND game last season on the golf course. He met up with his parents after the game and was giving all of the kids high fives and taking pictures with him.
