Michigan Women's Rugby wins national championship

So, I was hoping somebody else would post this because I know absolutely zilch about rugby. But it's been a couple days now and nothing has appeared, so I want to make sure folks are aware of this and for the team to get some of recognition from the M sports community.

The Michigan Women's Rugby team, which competes in the National College Rugby league, won the Division I national championship this weekend in Houston. Congratulations to Head Coach Jamie Frech and all the great players who brought the trophy home to A2!
May be an image of 4 people, people playing sports, outdoors and text that says 'AVEVA STADIUM M National Champions Cham Division WOMEN'S DIVISION ATIONAL CHAMPIONSY RUGBY'

I did not know this was a thing but I will now make a point of mentioning it to someone when reminding them of how collectively amazing our sports teams are. #TheMichiganDifference

I have watched a rugby match while at an airport at the middle of the night. I have also stayed at multiple Holiday Inn Expresses :)

Congratulations to the ladies. Go Blue!

Outstanding! Glad to see them getting some recognition. Many of the “club” teams are clubs in name only. The dedication and time spent on practices, travel, is often similar to varsity teams without the accoutrements of support, scholarships, official connections to the M athletic booster programs for networking, or any official recognition despite many of these teams being nationally competitive with funded varsity programs.

It’s a shame these kids can’t even earn a varsity letter for their hard work and representation of Michigan. Come to think of it this is the least Warde and the AD could do and it might give these real student-athletes a leg up in the post-graduation job hunt as a differentiator. I won’t hold my breath waiting for this to happen but it’s the right thing to do. This goes for some of the other men’s and women’s club programs as well.

Terrific accomplishment!

As a U-M rugby player from a generation ago, it's neat to see the women's team achieve the national title.  Michigan Rugby has a deep tradition of excellence that that began in 1959 when UMRFC was formed.

As football fans we all know that football's origins are in rugby.  It was a great sport to play as a younger adult.  These days my attention is on football.  Go Blue!

Go Blue!

Rugby is actually a pretty interesting sport to watch. I flew to Dublin a few weeks ago to watch Ireland play Fiji which was quite fun even though Fiji is pretty much trash and Ireland sat most of their stars.
