Michigan has benefitted from that rule at least once in the last couple of years. The key is that the foul was off the ball. If the shooter is fouled, he gets an and-one, but if there’s an off-ball foul, it’s treated just like any other foul. Of course, if the foul is before the shot, the shot shoudln’t count. In this case, the foul was while the player was in the act of shooting, which is probably — by the letter of the rule — OK.

Dude loves being in control and making himself part of the game. Not bashing him for against Michigan, win some lose some. He just loves to blow the whistle. It's annoying.

Play was complete bullshit!!! Guess the tv ratings needed OSU back in this game because Michigan was running away with it!

That was some bullshit. 5 pt fucking play is a joke a a ploy to get the crowd and OSU back into it. TV Ted and that corrupt skeezy looking guy doing their thing (though to go against everything I just said they called a decent half for the most part).

Didn’t end on a great note, but still, not a bad first half. I counted 29 possessions, putting OSU at just over 1 point each, and Michigan at an absurd 1.5. The officiating has been very questionable, but it didn’t seem to be biased in the first half. I was astonished that Michigan was able to draw that late charge, and the over and back call looked incorrect. (Holtmann was yelling at the ref — “that’s last year’s rule,” — and I think he’s right). The holding call against Simmons looked correct. It was while the player was in the act of shooting, which I think means the shot’s supposed to count and the foul is enforced. It’s an unusual call — most refs won’t whistle a call on guys trying to get position for a rebound before the shot’s even launched — but I don’t think it was actually wrong. The 13 point lead is bigger than it seems if they continue to play at this pace. The thing to keep in mind, though, is that Michigan’s performance so far has a large amount of luck in it. I counted about four long offensive rebounds that happened to bounce toward Michigan players, and at least three of them led to made 3s. That’s probably not sustainable. If Michigan scores 1 point per possession in the second half, I think they win easily. If they score 0.75, it’s likely to be a nail-biter.

He must have counted 2 more possessions than I did, which is entirely possible. I try to keep track by hand while watching the game, and it’s easy to lose count. :) Those are still very impressive numbers... and still probably aren’t sustainable. :)

i get a 4 point play, foul a guy who makes his 3 pointer, but where/when did the 5 point play come from?

it was the correct call.  Foul was obvious.  Our player grabbed and drug the other player out of the key like he was holding for an Evans run.  The biggest question I had was did the foul occur before the shot and apparently it didn't

Maryland blew a 22 point lead to Illinois last night, came back and forced overtime and won by one. Let's not blow a 20 point lead to these bastards.
