Michigan v. Florida -- Team Speed Thread

Submitted by SF Wolverine on

This seemed to me to be the fastest UM team I have ever seen.  And, against a very athletic UF squad.  Especailly on defense -- seemed like we repeatedly got to people who would have been missed in years past, and got to people earlier.  But, backs also seemed to have more speed, and Speight showed that the weight loss paid off on the scramble for a first down early on.   Be interesting to see whether this remains true all year, or if it was more scheme and anticiipation and less raw speed.

They did mention it a couple of times, you're right. But: when an SEC team is beating a B1G team, speed is the whole theme of the game. When Michigan has speed everywhere and Florida has a slow, awkward offense, it is a footnote late when the game is out of reach. And they didn't compare Michigan's speed to Florida, just to Michigan's typical defense (which, of course, this team compares very favorably to). But this team isn't just kinda quick. There are blazing fast guys all over the field.

I thought Blackledge was very aware of what Michigan brought in terms of speed, and it showed again and again and again.  There was nowhere on the field that I thought Michigan was at a loss for speed except for a the FL DEs taking advantage of Ulizio a few times and Cole once.

Other than that, our receivers, ends, backs, etc all showed as much or more speed than FL all game long.

They just can't get rid of him because of how old he is and how he would probably die within a week of being let go. They'll keep him around because there is no good way to get rid of him. Despite being one of the most knowledgeable coaches turned commentators, his time is long passed. He really hasn't been worth it for a few years.

Devin Bush is insane. I've been saying that all summer, Gedeon is Gedeon...but Bush is going to be a MONSTER.

The front 7 on this team is ELITE when it comes to football speed. It starts with Hurst.
