Michigan Targeting TX DE Brandon Alexander *Updated*
From Tom's latest tweet
#Michigan is also targeting 3 Star Texas DE Brandon Alexander (6'6", 230 lbs). Alexander has offers from Texas, TCU, A&M, Ok. State.
Now, with all of the recent new targets, I wouldn't normally make a thread. But this kid is a big time player, and pretty much the definition of 'sleeper'. Once his senior film was distributed, his stock rose incredibly quickly, and his offers have all been since then (as a matter of fact, his first Scout entry was in late October of 2010...he's now a 4*). I don't claim to be as much of an expert on analyzing kids as someone like Magnus, but I can tell you that this kid is a stud. Would be a huge get IMO
EDIT: Scout interview says he got an offer

His sister, Brandy isn't so bad either.

Is this kid a stud?

A stud
January 20th, 2011 at 5:55 PM ^
He's big. Espn has him as a 0* defensive end though. Interesting.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Wasn't he the REALLY tall DE from a few years back?
January 20th, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
Prescott Burgess is listed at 6'3, I believe you might be referring to Shawn Crable who was 6'5, but looked taller because of his lean body and long arms. Also, I beleive he was an OLB.
January 21st, 2011 at 3:38 AM ^
Burgess was a 5*/4* Safety in HS who grew into an outside linebacker at Michigan.
Crable was at least 6'5" but was always at OLB
Pat Massey was about 6'8"and began as a DE but was converted to a DT which was not a great move IMHO and that of many others.

Having trouble posting video to the main post....
January 20th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
Ok, ignore my below post. Kid is the fastest player on his D from most of those highlights. Stud it is.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Fastest player at 240 pounds

This kid is explosive off the ball and this is understating it a bit. A little hand work to get him off the block and a good dip and rip move will have the potential to make him a dominating pass rusher. Sign him up please.

Alexander is a long and tall defensive end that has great quickness and the ability to stay low to blow past offensive linemen. He has a long wingspan and can reach out and snag ball carriers from a distance. He has the penchant for making a big play. Because of his frame he would be the perfect fit to be a big defensive end a 3-4 type of scheme, but could play in any defense. |
My summary: Incredible athlete who needs a lot of top notch D-line coaching to reach his potential...hmmm, who do we know who has the resume and ability to coach this kid up?
January 20th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
Would someone explain to me what it means to be both long AND tall?
January 21st, 2011 at 9:48 AM ^
I'm tall, and have been told by many ladies that I'm also long. So, there ya go.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
What I like is him chasing little skill players 40 yds+ down field and actually catching them...Plus beasting O-lineman...Would love to see this kid Go Blue and watch what happens when Hoke/Mattison coach him up since DL happens to be both their expertise. Kid will be a monster once in a real S&C program!
January 20th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
if Texas swallows him up. They've already got about 371 4* players commited. Mack Brown should be fired not winning the Big 12 every year with the talent he has at his disposal.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
I thought he broke that punter's friggin' leg.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
ANGARRRR!!!!!!!
January 20th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
GERG had his guys chasing players from behind all the damn time, this kid would be perfect with that speed. I am pretty sure it was all schemed that way instead getting them positioned in front of their opponent. That darn GERG anyways, I wonder what happened to him?
January 21st, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
I like his ability to actually use the offensive linemen, attempting to block him, to tackle the ball carrier.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
they will come!
January 20th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
Hide yo 4 stars, hide yo 5 stars, cuz Hoke's out here snatchin all of them up.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
Hurray for this.
January 21st, 2011 at 8:20 AM ^
+1 for working "snatch" into the thread.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
Sometimes I wished we used a different moniker than "stud" to define freakishly athletic kids.

Ok, homeskillet.

I've heard people on this board complain about that before, but whenever I was playing football, our coaches would always refer to a good player as a "stud." When I hear other football experts talk about a big time athlete, it's almost always "Kid's a total stud."
I guess I don't understand why some people are adverse to that word.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
was a real studly comment. And yes, I needed the help of many board experts to come up with that one.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
This class may end up being star-studded
January 20th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
A stud is the horse that all the mares want to be with, and all the stallions want to be.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
Technically, a stud is the horse that fucks the mare, whether they want it or not. Additionally, the owner of the stud gets paid money to have said stud fuck said mare.
If "mare" = TtiO or MSU, then maybe (not homo)
January 21st, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
Thanks for the no homo clarification. Almost caused some confustion there.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
its creepy and connotes breeding and sexual prowess - which is fine if you are a 16 year old girl - but for a 20-30-40 something guy to be talking about a 17 year old young man as stud - it definitely can be considered creepy.
Now it is less awful than PTPer or Diaper Baby or whatever Dick Vitale is throwing out there, and may be less creepy than Brady Hoke "touchin" em and al Borges "Loving hard on em" and certainly less creepy than Graham James molesting Theo Fleury and Sheldon Kennedy, but yeah - stud = creepy.

So, probably underrated as a 3*. Brenham is a legit program down there, too--turns out a couple D-I kids every few years. I've heard aTm is in the driver's seat right now, but I'd rather he go Blue than anything.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
Brenham has a great class coming in 2012. They have a DT that will be a contender for 5 stars and a LB that should get 4.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
Yeah, he was probably the best player on that team a junior, and will be a monster get for some team. It's interesting that Michigan is looking at this kid from Brenham, and the tight end from Euless--two great schools for future recruiting ties.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
Aggies relatives - forget it.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
But the kid's still not committed anywhere, and aTm's recruiting isn't what it was a few years back, especially on defense. Though I saw he's being recruited by Dat, and he'd be the man to help kids remember the glory days.
