Michigan Myths

Submitted by Ziff72 on
I can;t believe Rittenberg posted this idiotic question and then didn't address it in his response. Any research whatsoever or just go with some idiotic MSM label. Yeah we have no lineman here that have any size and RR doesn't recruit line he knows oline doesn't mean anything in football....please check with Mealer, Lewan, Q, Omameh etc... if a different coach came in they'd all be shown the door I'm sure. Head Asplode Andrew from Laingsburg, Mich., writes: I have no reason to doubt your claim that Jim Harbaugh could be Michigan?s top choice but there are a couple reasons that I?m not sure Harbaugh would want the job. First, wasn?t he just courted by the Bills (and Raiders)? I find it hard to believe that a coach would turn down an NFL job to take the same position at any college, the following season. Secondly, Michigan is not stocking the cupboard for a pro-style offense. They are recruiting lots of skill position guys but few linemen. Additionally, the linemen they are getting are generally of the smaller / faster variety. Harbaugh would have trouble meeting expectations for three or four seasons - when his linemen recruits start being productive. He?s a smart guy and must realize this. Adam Rittenberg: Harbaugh clearly could go to the NFL if he wants, but Michigan isn't exactly any old college job, especially to Harbaugh, who attended U-M. He's turned down enough opportunities to make me think he'd be very interested in an opening at U-M, should one become available. Now you're absolutely right about Michigan going away from the pro-style offense with its recruiting under Rich Rodriguez, who pioneered the spread. Would Harbaugh want to step into a team recruited for Rodriguez's system? It could dissuade him, but he seems like a pretty confident guy in his own recruiting abilities. And if Michigan brought him in, I think the school would be somewhat patient, especially if things really go south this fall. Then again, Michigan runs the risk of falling off the map for some time with a bunch of mediocre seasons. You guys got any other myths that drive you nuts??

The OP may be drunk. Whatever... here are a few of my favorite Michigan myths: * RichRod could have prospered in '08 if only he had "tailored" the offense to suit the abundant talent at QB. (Note: I don't wish for that to sound like a *personal* attack on Threet/Sheridan. They both seem like good characters.) * RichRod doesn't understand the OSU rivalry. (Sure -- if he understood better he'd be 2-0 against J.T. Simple.) * RichRod was playing with a full (talent) deck in '08 that any decent coach could have guided to 9/10 wins.

Is Michigan really a prototype spread team right now? Think Tate Forcier wouldn't flourish behind a solid O-line, a good running game and receivers who can get open downfield? The only thing "Rich Rodriguez" spread in this team is they play out of the shotgun and run no huddle. There really isn't a spread identity to this team--expecially because they don't run the spread-read-option. That Michigan would need to be completely retooled (Devin Gardner at 6'4, 220?) if Rodriguez is canned is definitely a MYTH. It's also one perpetuated by Michigan fans. And last I checked, there ain't no "spread defense" or something that Rodriguez is known for (discounting the 3-3-5 thingy, which UM apparently won't play). I say if Rodriguez is recruiting talented guys (and THAT'S the Big Q Question)--they'd be able to adapt--and hey, a good coach would be able to adapt to them!

And why is Rich Rodriguez in quotes? Do you not believe that is his real name?

THIS is a knife. You may enjoy wasting the time of others with your idiotic prattle, your misanthropic, ridiculous, inane postings that are designed obviously to garner some form of attention. That's fine, we all need a hobby. But, dude, let's be honest with each other: do you really syphon any kind of joy from being the village idiot? Granted, you are one in a exponentially growing line of village idiots, but still. Wouldn't your time be better spent in other pursuits? Like posting on Rivals with the rest of your ilk?

That is the battle for state supremacy, and there are several stories that link the legend of Paul Bunyan to Michigan. One such story has him being based on a gigantic lumberjack in Bay City, MI. That fella's name was Joe Fournier, and he was legendarily huge...he actually had two rows of teeth. They kept his skull in the Bay City Museum for decades.

My favorite thing about you is that literally every post you make gets negged. It makes me feel warm inside. The fact that your avatar is Walter the Farting Dog just makes it all the more sweeter. I love that dog and his ill-smelling farts.

Michigan's depth chart isn't exactly swimming with offensive linemen right now, and he just recruited a 27-man class with only one lineman. Furthermore, I don't think any linemen have earned any accolades in Rodriguez's two years at Michigan. So...I'd say the jury's still out, AND he needs to recruit 4-5 linemen in 2011.

i.) at the end of the day, our line got pretty beat up last year in Big Ten play. More so than I expected....to many defenders in the backfield. That said this could also be a function of young QBs taking longer to make reads; a LOT to prove this season. ii.) BIGGEST AND REAL FEAR: we let RichRod go, bring in {anyone) and we go back to the pro-style. . . hopefully IF RichRod doesn't last they bring in a coach that knows how to run the T-Tech version of the spread because we are in the middle of a transition. iii.) Finally a question: Do you all think it was obvious that cupboards were bare when Lloyd left? I ask because think of the coaches that opted not to interview with Michigan. Oh and one more thing - for all of those bring in Les / Jim / any former Michgian alum: Les made HORRIBLE coaching decisions last year and Jim has one year under his belt. Rod's proven...I am of the view he just needs time: Year 1: write off - WALK ON QBs Year 2: 5 - 7 with a LOT of young players Year 3: 7 - 9 wins Year 4: WATCH OUT (opponents will not like an angry RICHROD!! But Michigan fans will LOVE HIM!!)

If you don't think an egomaniac "I guarantee we beat Ohio State" kind of guy like Harbaugh wouldn't be jumping at the opportunity to swoop in and be "Bo Jr." savior of Michigan football, you're delusional. If things go south this year and we're looking for a new coach come December, you better believe Harbaugh's going to be sitting by the phone, figuring out what he's going to do with all his Stanford swag.
