Michigan Illinois game thread
This game on a Friday night feels so different than last year. Has football beating OSU lessoned our interest in the BBall team this year? Lessoned the pain? Hunter is out, Brandon is out. How are you feeling? And what are you drinking tonight? Go Blue! Pama liquor...a quality mixer. Go Blue!!

Somehow Michigan is hanging with Illinois. If we can start getting lucky with a bunch of 3's.....
January 14th, 2022 at 9:37 PM ^
Fighting hard. That's good to see.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:38 PM ^
Hitting 3 AND hitting free throws would be good.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
Jones feet stuck in concrete caused the rotation issue and the three. Frankie plays better defense
January 14th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
Faulds has played well…and I get the game plan is attack Kofi, but we have to do it with ppl other than Faulds/Jace
January 14th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
Might be the hardest the team has played all season, but when you have to give two walk-ons significant minutes against an All-American center it's not going to end well.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
It's hard for me to believe Jones was a great player at Coastal Carolina. How?
January 14th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
He’s actually been good the past minute or so
January 14th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
I don't understand why we aren't more competitive.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
Michigan starting to lose touch with Illinois. They've done everything right so far except make shots.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
Illini coach should get a technical for the uber-bad hair color effort
January 14th, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
fightin'!
January 14th, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
I like what I’m seeing from Jones so far. Maybe he can help us after all
January 14th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
We gonna break 20 pts for the half, after that scoring binge.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
I think the smaller guys on Kofi is working better than Faulds. Surely the dude has a free throw line shot? Handing the ball off all game isn’t gonna work.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
Win or lose, Juwan came out with a great game plan for this game
January 14th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
At the 4 minute mark in the 2nd half…Michigan is only down 3
January 14th, 2022 at 9:50 PM ^
I like Howard, he’s smart, in the right spot and makes plays.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
Michigan wins this game if they start hitting shots.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:52 PM ^
Could we get one play-by-play guy and one color guy? Cuz it feels like two color guys and no play-by-play
January 14th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
It was great in first few minutes when clock wasn’t working and we didn’t know the score for 5 minutes
January 14th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
Ok stop going to Faulds
January 14th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
Look. Ilini fans are cheering us
January 14th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
WTF was that last possession??? We waited til the shot clock was at 5 to do something?
January 14th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
So far, so good
January 14th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Great game plan by Coach Howard.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Faulds, son, you are playing your ass off. But for the love of God please stop trying to shoot over Kofi Cockburn and pass out of the post.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
This team is too overly coached on offense. That's usually Dickinson in that position so the team just lets him go to work. To do the same with Faults vs Cockburn lacks situational awareness
January 14th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Had all the momentum after the Jones 3 and Frazier offensive foul then decided to call back to back plays to a 6'8 walk-on center vs an All-American. The team deserves better after how hard they played in the 1st half.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
We're trying to run offense through Jaron Faulds against Kofi Cockburn. Juwan has lost his fucking mind this year.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
Wasted the last few possessions after the Jace hustle and Frazier foul. Diabate has to play a lot of minutes in the second half. Too many wasted plays to Faulds down low.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
just don't understand how you don't recruit kids who can shoot
January 14th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
To be honest, this is the best coaching performance thus far this season. They’ll probably lose contact in the second half, but Howard has them playing way better than I think anyone would have thought. The complete lack of a back up center is now a glaring weakness.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
With us in the bonus, why weren't we shooting on that last foul? (Offensive foul on the inbounds, it looked like--they kept playing the replay, so they really didn't show the foul.)
January 14th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Must be one of those non-change of possession* fouls where shots aren't a result.
*Might not be the term but, something like that
January 14th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
Great effort on defense and rebounding in the 1st half. This is a game for Devante to shine. Need to keep the pick and roll going, just dont pass to Faulds when he's in the game. Go Blue!
January 14th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
In other news, Moritz Wagner explodes for 26 points to lead the Magic in a rare win, including 4 for 8 from deep. Little bro Franz second on the team in scoring with 19/6/7, going 8/11 from the field
adding: in a close game, Franz was a +24! He is having a special rookie season
January 14th, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
I love those kids. Great Michigan ambassadors
January 14th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Caris had 20 and Poole had 22, also!
January 14th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
Really impressive half. I totally get how it must feel to be an Illini fan right now. Totally overmatched the team you're playing but a weird group of guys, poor shots that bounce weird and end up Orebs for the other team anyway, hustle plays galore...and somehow you're winning by only 4 when it probably should be more like 15.
January 14th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
Michigan FG% 28
Michigan 3pt% 14
Michigan FT% 50
with those numbers we should be down double digits
January 14th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
Showing some grit. It's kind of comical that we're within 15 points with a decimated roster that hasn't played a game in 10 days. Keep fighting, men!
January 14th, 2022 at 10:05 PM ^
This team needs a swing-5 man. Someone who can drive and shoot on offense. Kofe can't guard that type of player without fouling. I think Tschetter can be that guy next 4 years.
January 14th, 2022 at 10:05 PM ^
I applaud the effort. Hardest they have played all year. Kudos on D. Wow, it’s painful to the eyes to watch this O. Really notice it with no Hunter down low. Nobody is any good. Brooks only guy who looks to have talent but they have removed him. He isn’t a 1st option. Excels in the 3-5 option. Just painful. I don’t care about stars, maybe means something in the future, but this team lacks talent. Honestly might be worst shooting team I have ever seen. Not even an exaggeration.
January 14th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^
Unless ALL of the recruiting rankings are wrong, they don’t lack talent. Shooting, yes. I don’t think we drive enough with Frankie, Kobe and Eli to get the defense moving.
January 14th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Talent isn't the problem. They had the #1 recruiting class. Dickinson is an All-American C. Brooks is a super senior with a lot of success. DeVante Jones was Sun Belt POY.
The biggest issue is roster construction and offensive spacing. The loss of Franz and Livers are huge because they're wing players who can shoot and play defense. Michigan doesn't have one in the rotation.
January 14th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Hopefully Moussa coming back in can change things. At least gives you a true athletic center
January 14th, 2022 at 10:11 PM ^
You're watching a different game man. Style points dont show up on the box score. It's a 4 point game against the team that's been shit talking us since last year...on their home court!
January 14th, 2022 at 10:07 PM ^
I thought Frankie’s defense out top was really good. Much like Jace, maybe put T Will on Kofi when Diabate is out. Faulds is a traditional center(limited) and Kofi eats those up.
