Michigan hosting GRAD transfer DT from Tulane
assuming this is to slide into the rotation to help fill in the gap created by Hinton leaving.

Thought it was worth noting he was a grad transfer so the credits issues isnt the same as an underclassman.

May he be the second coming of Mike Danna, only in the middle.

6 TFLs and 3.5 sacks sounds good to me.

It wouldn't be a pipeline to Mississippi high school talent, but at least he's from there. :)
January 12th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
My guess is that transfers from Tulane wouldn’t have credit issues even if he weren’t a Grad transfer.
January 12th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
Credit transfer issues stem from the way Michigan structures their curriculum relative to other schools. There's not someone in an office looking at a trancript and deciding "Lol Western Michigan 0 credits for this course."
January 12th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
"Lol Michigan State 0 credits for this course."
Fixed it
January 12th, 2022 at 2:50 PM ^
Exactly. It's not so much an issue of school as it is of whether or not there's an equivalent course at Michigan. So yeah, it's not "Lol Michigan State 0 credits for this course." It's "Lol Michigan State, we don't offer Couch Burning 101 or Tear Gas Trauma Care 200, 0 credits for those courses..."

Honest I would be more excited to have Jeter back and let the young DTs work there way into the lineup but if Jeter leaves he is for sure a great addition.

Depth at that position is always good.
But the downside of grad transfers at most positions is that they are highly unlikely to be starters on a team competing for a Big Ten title. Otherwise, they'd be getting NFL interest. So best case scenario is the young guys beat him out, of course.

Ummm. Oluwatimi?
January 12th, 2022 at 5:23 PM ^
"highly unlikely" doesn't mean there are none. he is an exception and we're very lucky he's not testing the draft (likewise with Mike Danna).
That said, center isn't a position that as highly coveted by the NFL as DT (and there are far fewer center spots available). Teams don't usually rotate centers so an NFL team usually only plays one all game. They often play 4-6 DTs. Which means there are a lot more spots available and (far more) DTs get drafted each year than centers.

Eh. We're really thin there. No one proven at the non-nose really. Definitely would prefer to get an experienced body in there.
January 12th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
Never hurts to get depth. I know it doesn't apply here because he's a grad transfer but it would be nice if UM figured out a way to make it easier for everyone, including student-athletes, to transfer credits over.

His Tulane historical photo page tells quite a story.

That mustache finally filled in really nice.

Slimmer in the senior photo. He's gone from a jolly-looking dude to a cat that IS going to steal your girl. He's going to hit them with that look and they will melt, son.
January 12th, 2022 at 3:35 PM ^
Unless Glamour Shots took the picture, between his junior and senior years he became a man.
January 12th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
He looks pissed in his senior pic because he dropped 35 lbs.
January 12th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
someone stole his joy (and his hair) over that 4 year period
January 12th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Looks like he lost 35 lbs of fat and all his tolerance for BS.

Alabama offered him 10 months before he committed Tulane a few years ago, so basically I'm thinking he will be Quinnen Williams 2.0.
January 12th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
The positives is that this guy played a ton in his career. He is a veteran.
He was actually pretty good as a true freshmen. The negatives would be that it appears statistically at least, he did not improve that much.
January 12th, 2022 at 4:09 PM ^
Or as he improved, he was more likely to get double teamed or avoided.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
Yeah, its really hard to judge a DT purely off of stats.
January 12th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Hope he comes. We will need all the defensive help we can get.
January 12th, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
need more big fellas in the trenches
January 12th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
I’m not sure this really helps? I’m fairly confident in the guys we have right now, but maybe the staff wants more depth.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
Are you confident in the current guys after Hinton declared? You usually want at least 4 DTs. We have: Smith, Jeter (maybe?), Jenkins, and...hopefully Benny but relying on a true Soph is risky. And that's if Jeter comes back.
January 12th, 2022 at 11:24 PM ^
I'm not sure what some of you are thinking. We're really thin on the interior. Sure there's talent but it's still young and inexperienced. Jeter was backing up at nose not 3T. Jenkins looks good but you still really want a backup there. The young guys weren't so good that they pushed ahead of a walkon and Jeter.

yes please. Dude is big and gets into the backfield...this pleases me

Brian Kelly wants him. Who could forget that room?
