Or you know, Harbaugh could keep his word. Swenson could come in and compete and maybe show he deserved the offer, deserved his early high ranking. Worst case scenario, he contributes to the team and gets a degree from the University of Michigan after 4 years.

So it's big time college football and you obviously want Michigan to win and win big, so anything not illegal is fair game?

Like with other things in life, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about doing things.

Again, we don't know the circumstances here so this is all theoretical speculation, but I find the responses of some who find the need for Michigan football to win championships to be so great so as to rationalize just about anything in order to achieve that end to be somewhat depressing.

I'm not getting the reasoning (moral or logical) behind this assumption that "tough" (as in breaking one's word) is somehow "best" because it is "tough."

If the kid knew beforehand that he wasn't earning the scholarship (i/.e. that he was failing to live up to his end of the bargain, or else the offer acceptance was based on who else accepted offers), then his failure to make the team is above-board.  If Harbaugh dropped him after accepting his offer because Harbaugh now wanted to make room for someone else, then Harbaugh is the wrong coach for Michigan.  No coach can win enough games to overcome being a scumbag.

So if this happened recently you are accusing our staff of "shitty behavior"? With no facts whatsoever, just rumors and accusations. Come on people! So many negative assumptions about Harbaugh with out knowing the whole story. WTF. For whatever reason his recruitment didn't work out, SO THE FUCK WHAT! Why are so many people assuming the worst from Harbaugh? Fucking bizarre. Rant over, I feel better now.

Or, you know, was honest with him and told him what the situation was, who he was competing with, what he needed to do to have his offer be committable, etc... For fucks sake, this is Harbaugh. What makes any of us think he is doing anything dirty? Because he has had so many recruits complain about his recruiting style?

The thing that gives me pause is his lack of an official visit. The only way I'd be ok with cutting a kid loose this late is if he did something so monumentally stupid that he wouldn't be able to get past admissions. Drevno visited him a month ago. If they didn't want him in the class, they should have told him then.

None of us know what was discussed in December, and none of know what if anything has been discussed since.

But yeah, I can understand taking unsubstantiated inuendo and speculation as grounds to disparage somebody.  That's what fans are for.

I agree.  Sam Webb touched on it this morning.  He doesn't have all the facts either and said it was similar to the Daelin Hayes situation - committed to the prior regime long ago and we don't know what if any contact has been made by Harbaugh and Staff over the last year.

Sam also said (in a round about kind of way) that this situation is unfortunate and that as we move forward, this type of situation won't likely happen again.

I think we need to wait to hear from Erik or his Dad to speak before we start forming our own speculative conclusions.

They need OTs in this class so on a whim they told an OT, who has been committed for two years to pound sand so they could take a flyer on an OG that has expressed little to no interest in Michigan.

People are bent out of shape about Harbaugh's apparent lack of integrity while simultaneously ignoring the idiocracy of the scenario.

BTW, does anybody else find it odd that Swenson never had an official visit?

Nothing at either of those links speaks to Swenson ever having actually made an official visit anywhere.  He may have been scheduled to visit, but scheduling a visit and actually visting aren't the same thing.

BTW, how many recruits do you reckon take three official visits to the same institution, all of which are also game weekends?  Answer, NONE.  One official visit per student per institution...five total.  In Swenson's case he took no official visits anywhere.

If its best for UM and Swenson then its Harbaugh doing his job and the right thing..Be honest, I would appreciate it..Not everyone is as good as others at things..take it and try to prove them wrong but don't cry about it (Obviously Swenson hasn't but obviously some of you would)

Apparently not, but OL seem to be the position group where you just want to have numbers. You never know who will boom (see: Glasgow and Molk) and who will bust (see: Michigan's 2013 OL class). Since OT seems to be a position of need, I'd hope they plan to at least bring in another OT to compete.

I'm not sure Davis would solve the problem; he's a pure gaurd apparently and UM wants tackles. The miss was Delance. UM really wanted him and we're looking good for a while but decided to stay closer to home. I wouldn't think they would let Swenson go without a back-up plan in place. This could end up being a blinder on the staff's part in they end. They are human after all.
