MGoSurvey: Football Head Coach

Submitted by NYC Fan3 on December 31st, 2020 at 11:23 AM

On the eve of ushering in a new year, I wanted to get the pulse of MGoBoard Users.  Below this thread I will post 2 responses.  Upvote response 1 if you want Harbaugh as head coach of the team in 2021.  Upvote response 2 if you want to see a new head coach for 2021.

I’m requesting 2 different upvotes so we can see a gross total of votes, rather than 1 response utilizing upvotes or downvotes and only showing the net difference.

I hope that everyone reading this has a safe and healthy new year.

Because of the solid recruiting class, probably.  And because it's Jim vs Unknown.  If the choice was something like "Jim Harbaugh or Matt Campbell" then it might be different

As it stands the choice is "confidence in Harbaugh to fix the roster/coordinators" vs "confidence in Warde/U-M to choose, hire, and support the right new coach"

Anecdotally, I know a few die hard OSU fans and that can't fathom how JH would be extended. Dont get me wrong, they are happy he's staying but they are shocked the school and fan base is okay with his results (or okay enough to justify an extension). I think it speaks to the cultural differences in the two programs more than anything.

Would have been interesting if you had done this same thing the week after the PSU game and were able to compare results then to now. It seems like the passage of time has caused more people to move to the "give him more time" camp than have moved to the "fire him" camp, but that's just a feeling. I suspect this has been Warde's strategy all along - let the emotions of the season subside and let the fan base get distracted by the holidays before making anything official with Harbaugh's contract extension. I think this is causing the "delay"; it's not because Harbaugh is waiting on NFL offers or they are still negotiating contract terms.

Why do you want a coach back on such a short leash the pitch forks and hot seat talks will be out in full force the first ugly game we have in 2021? We hit rock bottom in year 6. Why would anyone predict a magical turn around in year 7?

Are you afraid osu will embarrass us annually and msu will win half their games against us if we replace Harbaugh cause.....

Downvote....but I do find the silence about a new contract for Harbaugh to be a bit surprising if an agreement had been reached.  Ditto for no replacement for Brown.  This Sunday, the season will be over for a bunch of NFL teams.

If it were true because he and Warde both want him here, then they would have announced it.  If you mean "Nothiing has changed..." because he hasn't found something better YET, alot has actually changed, because he doesn't really want to be here under the new offer.

So, my guess is, you are wrong and the truth is coming shortly that he is leaving and Campbell, Hafley or a coach to be named later is coming in.

Gotta say -- at this point? I just want A decision to be made, and ASAP.

I really don't like Jimmy using UM as his "fallback" option if his NFL feelers don't pan out, and I don't understand why Warde is seemingly okay with this.

If pinkfloyd is going to make an outrageous and baseless claim it use to be and still should be called out and pinkfloyd should be required to have some evidence or proof.  Yet here you are implying the other side has a requirement for proof. Absolutely not!  Only the conspiracy theorist needs proof.  And I was hoping the stupidity and illogical bs of the last four years would be behind us soon.

Speculating that Harbaugh wants to see what opportunities exist in the NFL is hardly some crazy conspiracy theory.   Suggesting that Harbaugh is definitely coming back or that he is definitely leaving are equally speculative.

The facts that we have are:

1. Harbaugh’s contract ends after next season.

2. No new contract has been signed.

Multiple meeting outlets have reported (from un-named sources) that Harbaugh has in fact been offered a contract with a lower salary but more money for assistants.   If it is indeed true that he has been offered a contract and he hasn’t agreed to it, speculating that he us not entirely happy with the offer and may be considering other potential options is pretty reasonable.

I’d actually argue that speculation that he is definitely coming back needs more support because it is missing an explanation for why a contract hasn’t been signed.

The BS without proof is this: “I really don't like Jimmy using UM as his "fallback" option if his NFL feelers don't pan out, and I don't understand why Warde is seemingly okay with this. “

Also Harbaugh said during the season he is staying. No one with credibility said he is going or considering going. And saying he’s using UM as a fallback is baseless conspiracy.

I think Warde is in a pretty tough spot due to Harbaugh's buyout clause. He doesn't really have much recourse to Harbaugh waiting it out without firing him and eating the $10M they would have to pay him. After a massive revenue loss this year, I'm assuming no one really wants to do that.

It does seem to me like Harbaugh is exploiting his situation at Michigan to see if he can tender a better offer from the NFL, which would tell us he doesn't really want the Michigan job for anything other than the money.

If he did, he would have accepted Warde's offer already. If that's the case, I'd rather just see him go.

You all can pontificate over this ad infinitum but I could honestly care less over something that I have no control over.

Instead, it's New Years Eve and I am cooking up some ribs (get the Stubbs ready!) and opening a fine bottle of Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon in hopes that it will usher in a fine year ahead - not only for M but for all of you as well.  Cheers!
