MGO transcript - I don't speak Sparty
He found the supervisor.
No need to watch or translate. The sooner Malik realizes he's completely responsible for himself, the better things will go for him.
Unfortunately won't happen. He has become entrenched in the victim mentality.
Sounds like a solid cultural fit at MSU
That'll happen right around the 19th of Never. That might be on a Tuesday.
There's no such thing as being "completely responsible for oneself." Point taken that he should take more responsibility for his actions, although making better decisions moving forward would be ideal regardless of how he interprets past actions.
Thought about, not understood, he's achin' to be?
+1 replacements. Nice
Oh the irony. The Freep posted a Target / Miralax ad under the video where McDowell complained about Mork failing him. Mork can clear up that constipation grimace at Target.
that's not how internet ads work ?
I chuckled.
This is funny
You constipated bro
It's part of a larger article that speculates everything went downhill after the ATV accident. I tend to think the downward trajectory started with that junior year performance, but whatever. Both him and Charles Rogers let down a lot of people, including themselves, with off-field issues.
I accompanied my Sparty brother in watching MSU play Rice in Roger's last season in 2002. Since I didn't really give a shit about the game, I focused on watching Rogers since he was essentially the MSU offense and got all the hype.
It was apparent early in the game that Rogers only truly exerted himself when he clearly was the focus of the play—on running plays or passes to other receivers, he completely half-assed it, both in route running and in blocking.
My brother saw the same things I did, and we both thought it would be typical for the idiot Lions to draft him. I was not disappointed.
It's funny how people in the Detroit media went crazy over his first game, only 4 catches and not even 40 yards receiving. He had 2 TDs, but I figured his speed would make him a deep threat.
On the other side, Anquan Boldin, looked far and away like the better rookie WR, 10 catches over 200 yards receiving and 2 TDs. And he was a second round pick.
Sounds just like Braylon when I went to go see IU and Michigan play in Bloomington way back in the early 2000s. I specifically remember my parents commenting a ton on Braylon barely putting forth any effort unless there was a chance he might get the ball.
While this is a keen observation, it is also of note that you can't key on a play based on one individual's effort. Baylor used to have multiple skill players take plays off to save energy. Rogers was definitely a bust though.
I'm kinda glad he didn't.
Exactly, he would have gotten himself into some trouble if he had come here and gotten kicked off the team and been a huge distraction vs. going to staee and having them cover things up. Dodged a bullet.
I thought this for a long time. Now I'm beginning to wonder if he would have just ended up transferring after a year or two.
He probably would’ve been the same way here. In that case, it’s a good thing he wasn’t here.
Would've been a bad presence in the locker room.
I think McDowell was a knucklehead before the ATV accident—his inconsistent play, lousy draft interviews, and resulting drop in the draft all happened prior to that—but changes in personality are not uncommon with closed-head injuries, which a concussion is.
That's it. He didn't seem like a model citizen pre-accident, but closed-head injuries can be a disaster for one's psychology.
His mother no doubt knew what type of kid he was and didn't want him going to staee where his bad behavior would be covered up and excused.
I watched him, as a HS Senior, play against Ishpeming HS in the state finals. He was a non-factor in that game, when he should’ve dominated the entire Hematite OL. But nope, he was a slug. Red flag for me right there.
Unfortunately this is true. He mentions not liking the coaches, which is because they tried to coach him and he wouldn't listen to them. I think he even bragged about the coaches not being able to change him in his pre-draft interviews.
Oh playing in East Landfill for a pos HC didnt work out? Tooooo bad!
When the news of his arrest broke a few weeks ago, posters at RCMB blamed his mother, his high school environment, one even blamed "coaches like Harbaugh." The claim was that coaches like Harbaugh give student athletes the idea that nothing but their play on the field matters and that makes life difficult for the good and decent coaches like Dantoni who have to deal with the consequences.
"The claim was that coaches like Harbaugh give student athletes the idea that nothing but their play on the field matters and that makes life difficult for the good and decent coaches like Dantoni who have to deal with the consequences."
The fact that any adult could actually subscribe to this fantastically absurd notion—against all factual evidence to the contrary—is a testament to why our country is in such awful shape.
I've met two sparties in my life. One was OK, the other was a total shit human. The shitter was a RCMB member. That place is the bottom of the bottom.
There are indeed way too many people who externalize everything to a point where they cannot conceive of anything that might be a "me problem", if you will. Perhaps one of the most self-crippling things of all is the inability to recognize that, now and again, it is indeed you. Malik and his family don't seem to be quite there yet.
Two words: Glenn Winston.
Well, I disagree with him.
Watched/listened to video. Was that English? The cop, I understand. The passenger, not so much.
MSU draft problems? No surprise.
MSU recruiting is a disaster the last few years and one factor must be their crappy draft results. Beyond McDowell’s issues, only Allen in the 4th last year and then Layne & Willis in the late 3rd and 4th this year. Guys like Williams, Willekes and/or Bachie could’ve declared but stayed for fourth/fifth year - that worked well for LJ.
MSU might have a good season this year, but this senior group is the last hope before the talent void really pushes Sparta downward.
In today’s society - people seem to be taught to blame someone else for their issues.
Really a dumb comment, based on one person who actually might have suffered brain damage from an accident.
We're always ready to condemn the whole damn country because of on sports story.
Ironically, many negative comments like this on this or other threads kind of sum up message board guy more than any other group of people.
Of course the Sparties are crying about the “former MSU player” moniker that follows his name. If I’m not mistaken, I don’t think this clown played one snap in the NFL, so I think the description fits...,
Yeah, it's stupid. Of course the Michigan-based publications are going to point out the connection to the state of Michigan. I think most publications outside of Big Ten country used "former NFL player" in their stories (if they wrote any, that is. Since he never actually played it wasn't a big national story).
Closed head injuries are no laughing matter, and given Mr. McDowell’s lack of maturity prior to the accident, he is facing a hard road. I’m also sure, on a human level, the MSU coaching staff tried to get through to him with no luck. For myself, I knew he was a dick by the way he conducted himself when he played Michigan, and figured any player who deliberately tries to hurt another is going to be pretty unpopular in the NFL, where most players respect the living they’re all trying to make. In balance, I don’t have any sympathy for the peckerhead.
I don't think parents are always right, but man was his mom prescient when she said she didn't want him to attend MSU. He beats a lot of responsibility here, but for whatever reason he did not mix well there.
You know, considering the type of players MSU football seems to attract, I'm glad we didn't get any of them.
