META - SHOOT TruStage INTO THE SUN AND GET CONTROL OF THE SITE BACK PLEASE

Submitted by mGrowOld on September 27th, 2023 at 11:49 AM

Kinda ironic that in a front page post that spends a lot of time complaining about ads the inline ads for TrueStage mortgage completely take over the page and force you to spend five seconds looking at it with no opportunity to close it.  This has happened multiple times today to me in multiple threads (happened three times trying to read the UFR) and is beyond frustrating.

Yes I know about ad-blocker but is my only option to stop revenue from flowing into the site?  Common Seth, get control of these guys.

PS: Ironically twice while I was trying to create this post I got the TruStage lady completely take over the page.  Had to wait the five seconds for her to leave me alone.

I have literally not seen any of these ads. AdBlock is the only way to use the internet.

And yes... it's pretty much your only option if you do not want to see ads

Obviously (glasses, in this cases), but I still won't surf sites extensively on a phone, nor will I type extensively on phones. I learned to type properly, so I prefer laptops / desktops / all-in-ones for that. I also prefer larger screens so don't have to zoom in for details and smudge the glass on the phone.

Here's the thing though.  I can live with the ads (right now I'm looking literally at two of them) but those ads still allow me to read content and respond.  They dont take over the entire page with no option of closing them out.  That's what's so infuriating.

I hear you - I'm probably going to have to give in and run ad-blocker but given how much I'm on the site that's probably going to cost the curators of this place millions in lost ad revenue.

I used to feel the same way, and similar about minivans. I have completely changed my opinion about both, for the better

Pontoons are awesome. They're super stable. New ones go really fast if you want, so you can tube behind them. Great for cruising, partying, and I have seen quite a few set up really nicely for fishing platforms. From out on the Great Lakes to rivers. They even sell dedicated pontoon trolling motors now

This was me as well. For years, I was fine with the ads that didn't obscure (much) content, because I want this site to get maximal revenue. But TruStage blocks the whole page, and the pot ads featuring whatever store in Berkley slows my laptop to less-than-a-crawl.

So, an ad blocker it is. Sorry MGoStaff.

If Brian or Seth can crunch the numbers, it would be useful to know how much revenue is lost by an individual reader using an ad-blocker. I would gladly donate that cost (whatever it is) to get all of my mgoblog content guilt-free and ad-free

I recent hit my breaking point and started using a DNS ad filter after I started getting full page ads on Chrome Mobile anytime I clicked on a new page within MGoBlog. I didn't mind an ad pinned to the bottom of the page or whatever, but a full page that could only be cleared by hitting the "X" was a bit much.

Related - the server takes so dang long to load the site on my iPhone. Is this an iPhone issue or a site traffic issue? What's the remedy - can we MGoMoneyCannon it?

I hopped on my kids computer the other day to help him with something and holy crap have ads gotten out of control everywhere.  I downloaded Firefox and an adblocker for him and now he thinks I'm a wizard.

Tell me how much lost revenue my lack of ad viewing (I have never intentionally clicked on one) costs the site and I'll send a donation.

At least ads used to be cool/interesting, but Madison Ave sucks now.

I hate that it’s MGoBlog that’s going to force me to turn adblock back on for my desktop and get an iOS adblocker.

Guys, I don’t mind small ads. I want to support the site. But on desktop that stupid full screen ad makes the site unusable, and on mobile there’s full screen ads, border ads, and bottom-third-of-the-page-ads which reappear every 30 seconds.

These threads keep getting posted, Seth keeps saying he's working on it but there are issues beyond his control, AdBlocker keeps existing to literally solve this problem, and the site has a direct donation button for those who are actually concerned that they are taking Werther's Originals money off of Alex's table. If you are worried about the revenue, buy a t-shirt or donate. We don't need to rehash this every six weeks.
