Meta: Front page click "logging you out"?
Just wonder if it's happening to everyone else-
Since the site exploded last night every time I click on the front page my log in info is gone and the username and password spots are blank. But if you click on any other thread, or inside a front page post, you're still logged in.
Did all the traffic yesterday break the site? I know Brian isn't around to fix it, but maybe some mod that stuck around knows what's up.
Not just you, it was probably something that happened when the site was melting down last night.
Happening to me too. Threads also show up as having, say, 20 total posts but 21 new posts.
Same here, but I don't have to re-login to post.
That's an inconvenience I can put up with a whole helluva lot more, if that means we're experiencing heavy traffic due to national title games.
experiencing this same problem....#firstworldproblems #thatreallyarentproblems
what up wit dat?
Yeah, it's happening to me too. Thanks David Brandon!
But as Schembo said, I don't have to re-log in. As soon as I click on a thread or post, all of my user info is back and I appear to be logged in. Seems to be an issue with the home page specifically.
You're in if you're in a thread, you just don't get the user info on the left hand side on the front page.
It really doesn't stop anyone from doing anything. But since it didn't come after a site overhaul or something, and is continuing into today after the giant traffic load (and on different computers and browsers) I thought I'd say somedthing. Normally I'd email Brian, but since he's traveling all day I don't know if anyone else is around that can do anything or not.

I think the front page is just fully cached since he's getting so much traffic. It makes server load a lot less to serve up a canned front page.
This generally happens when they increase the caching levels on the site. I was going to say something about it earlier, but the board still seemed to be lagging. I assumed that meant that the site is still getting hammered and took that as the reason why the caching levels haven't been reduced.
Yup, starting yesterday. Please fix this, I can not spare the valuable extra click. Thank you.
sometimes disable logins on the front page because it taxes the server too much every time a logged in user hits the homepage? I thought disabling logins on the homepage allowed a cached version to be furnished instead of retrieving it from the database everytime.
Also, I hope the site-crash on important event feature never goes away.
I think logins on front page were disabled since there were a LOT of people coming in here yesterday and we didn't have brian in case things went kaput.
