It's crazy and not at all surprising folks are writing this team off during the FIRST game of the season XD

I know they should be performing better against this inferior of an important but damn!

I don't know that anyone is "writing this team off."  There are some goals out there that they can reach if they gel.

But there are also some fans out there that think that a team completely devoid of NBA talent is somehow going to compete for a Big 10 title and make a deep run in March, and I don't see how that's going to happen.

I don't think it's negative or unfairly critical to suggest that people temper their expectations at least a little bit.  We're going to win plenty of games.  This just isn't going to be a Burke/Stauskas/McGary type of team, because that type of player isn't on the roster.

I'd rather be elite in football and mediocre in basketball than the other way around. My hope is that this team gels together and becomes a solid tournament team but it doesn't look like they have an elite player to take them over the top. Oh well, those Burke/Stauskas teams were fun as hell and will buy Beilein some time but we won't return to that level unless we start recruiting elite players or finding diamonds in the rough. As long as we make the tournament I'll be happy and they'll have my support. Hopefully Beilein's predecessor will be able to unlock this programs programs potential but until then, this is the best we can hope for. And I love what Beilein has done and deserves our respect and patience but this is reality.

Next year will be telling whether Beilein will keep his job or not but I think the direction this program is heading in is obvious. Mediocrity, but because he had a couple of great years it has bought him some time whether we agree with it or not. He won't be fired after this year if the team does what they're projected to do which is make the tournament but another year similar to this one and I think more people will be wondering when a change will occur. That's just the way I see it.

I understand your preference if forced to chose. As you know...this is Michigan. There should be no reason to choose and all of our programs should be competitive. John Belien has gotten a ton of rope for those two seasons. With Harbaugh, Jordan, and new facilities there should be no reason we aren't recruiting and winning.

Tonight is ugly, but I think we're a .500 B1G team. Definitely nothing to get excited about, but not awful either. It's pretty obvious that we don't have any real playmakers, and we aren't very athletic. Irvin just isn't the same guy he was before his injury. He was starting to do Stauskas-like things back then -- now he's just a volume shooter.

I told myself I would do my best to be positive this year, but I really don't know how anyone defends this product anymore. The program is lifeless. No energy, no excitement, no pros on the roster. Recruiting matters. Beilein had one good class and he did some remarkable things with that class, but seasons like this are becoming the norm. It's painful watching kids like Josh Jackson and Miles Briges play tonight when they should be wearing blue.
