Not really sure why you would recruit a kid, develop him for four years and then let him play his best season for one of your biggest rivals.  He was our best big last year and he would have been our best big again this year.  Beilein screwed this one up -- the choice was Bielfeldt or an empty scholarship.  Why on earth would you choose the latter?

Beilein needs to have a big 2016/2017 campaign. I know some like to argue on the contrary but the expectations of Michigan are not being met currently injuries aside. The future doesn't look as bright as it should and next year is huge, to put it simply. I really hope John turns it around and gets us back where we should be. If not I'm not sure what the purpose of waiting any longer to make a move will be.

Not according to any of the published reports. I suppose there could be more behind the scenes we don't know but it sure sounds like JB didn't want him which is baffling. I'm guessing they wanted there young bigs to develop but that makes me question their abilities to scout their own players.

"I did tell the coaches that I did want to come back to Michigan," Bielfeldt said. "But at the end of the day things didn't work out and we both decided to move on."

Bielfedlt added, "I told (coaches) that I wanted to stay (and) Michigan was my first choice but as time went on I had to explore other options."

These kind of over and over dong punches remind me of Hoke's last years - it seemed the football team and program could do no right. The writings on the wall.

Seemed odd that we moved on from Max when he would have been our best big man next year. Maybe it will pay off for next year when we have a little experience at center ? Who am I kiddng.....Walton and Irvin are both going to be out for the year by the start of Big Ten play anyway.

After Jaylen Brown decided, Max was still making his decision and expressed to the media that he wanted to return to Michigan still.

There really isn't a reasonable defense for Beilein's decision. Neither choice was more "non-sleazy" than the other. Just one option was dumb, the other was smart.

With Max torching us to officially kill our NCAA chances. If we get by Northwestern.

I am actually very happy for Max - good for him.

Wasn't Bielfeldt squeezed out when we accepted Mo wagner? if so, you have to wait and see how wagner pans out. 3-4 years of MO could be better than 1 of Bielfeldt

...to give the other bigs a chance to develop. We won't know for sure if letting him go was a mistake until their careers are over (if we ever know). But it sure looks like a mistake right now. It seems like he could have been the difference between making and not making the NCAA Tournament.
