The best part of that is your average State fan will probably defend it by saying "Our overall body of work is still better," after utterly refusing to accept that last year when Michigan jumped back ahead of them. Even though that was completely different as it didn't happen until they lost to Purdue a week later, unlike now when they're still ranked ahead of Washington the day after losing to them. To say nothing of the fact they lost to Washington much more decisively than they beat Michigan. And without controversy.

The worst part about the Coaches Poll is that the name is rather misleading - it is the Sports Information Director Or Duly Authorized Representative Poll in most places, and of course, they likely didn't watch much football beyond their own team's game, and even then, only parts of that.

Clemson feels like rich man MSU in that everyone sort of expects them to get beaten by a good team but thus far they've been able to escape unscathed.

They're scores always look much bigger wins than they actually are - case in point they were only up 13-6 at halftime against LaTech and benefitted from 4 TOs. They're a good team but that defense isn't going to be enough when they play teams that are consistent on both sides of the ball.

I feel an upset brewin’ for Ohio State.

Not only is Treyvon Henderson banged up and left the Toledo-OSU game after the first drive, but their secondary is dealing with some critical depth issues too.

Two of their starting safeties (Proctor and McCallister) were out against Toledo, 3 of their 5 scholarship CBs have missed all the games so far due to injuries, and then their starting CB Cam Brown was also knocked out against Toldeo.

If Mertz/Wisconsin’s passing game is even a little above-average, I can see them crushing whatever walk-on CBs Ohio State rolls out next week lol.

Reminder on some Wisconsin stats:

  • They have lost 8 straight to OSU.
  • They have zero road victories against any of MSU, U-M, PSU or OSU in a season where that team won at least four games  ….. in the last eleven years.
  • In their last visits to OSU, U-M and PSU against good teams (eg not 2020) - they have scored 7, 13 and 10 points.  They lost by 31, 25 and 12.  All of these games are within the last four years, with the same coaches we have today.

I would be VERY surprised if Wisconsin wins in Columbus Saturday night.  Their track record in these sort of spots, frankly —- is terrible.  I get what you are saying about the Buckeye secondary, but Wisconsin isn’t particularly well equipped to take advantage of that.  And also, when exactly has Chryst won a big game recently anyway?  He’s incredibly overrated IMO.

I hear ya but I was also wondering about their injury status and went over to Eleven Warriors this morning and Day said that a few of them - including Proctor, McCallister, and Mike Hall - could have played last night if needed.

But the two real problems are the Wisconsin passing attack and stopping the OSU offense - remember we're talking about Wisconsin in Columbus. A huge long shot at the very best

Ohio State has tons of safety depth, and their 2nd and 3rd string RBs have looked pretty good, so the absence of Henderson or Proctor/McCallister will be unlikely to cause any big issues.

The Buckeyes only glaring weakness right now is, as you alluded to, their CB room, both with regards to the play of the starters and it's depth. Having said that, Wisconsin isn't exactly an Air Raid team, so I highly doubt they can throw for enough TDs to outpace Ohio State's offense.

Based on what I have seen so far, outside of Georgia, Michigan has as good a chance at this point as anyone else in getting to the National Championship game.  Although tough to win in Columbus, Michigan will likely be the best and toughest team OSU plays the rest of the year.  Just sayin.  #4 is a good spot for Michigan.  Would be thrilled if Michigan still there going into OSU, as it means going undefeated until then. More for OSU to choke on when Michigan plays them.

I openly dislike everything about Penn State, but they should be ranked over Arkansas for blowing out Auburn on the road. They are demonstrably better at football than Arkansas, the ranking should indicate it.

It's all up for the taking this year. I know many/all of us say that every year but it really feels like be the aggressor and take it this year...it's anyone's championship to take.

I'm looking forward to seeing this team ratchet it all up a notch as we enter BIG play. Game by game, week by week just take care of business.

It just gets me so damn excited because this team is stacked and they can run the table.
