Latest CBS Bowl Projections

Submitted by True Blue 9 on October 10th, 2021 at 11:46 AM

CBS has released their latest bowl projections. Not sure I see Cincinnati making the playoff but man, those New Year's Six Bowls would be incredible:

Alabama vs. Texas in the Sugar Bowl

Penn State vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl

Notre Dame vs.......MICHIGAN in the Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State vs. Wake Forest in the Peach Bowl

Legit, I'd kill to see basically all of those matchups.

Not too shabby.  Of course hoping for B10 championship and playoff.   Would like our chances against Notre Dame based on performance so far this year.

Too early for fantasy bowl projections to be worth much more than a “a warm jar of spit”.  (Hint:  what one VP of US referred to his office as being).  6 more games to go!

Hard to see some of these predictions happening.  Nebraska is going to need a win over either Wisconsin or Iowa just to get to 6 wins.  Don’t see them making a January 1 bowl.

Agreed, but there are 4 Big Ten teams in the NY6 in these projections which bumps up the non-NY6 Big Ten teams to Citrus and Outback.  So it’s possible, but I would still expect then to get a lower bowl.

The strangest thing to me was the exclusion of Maryland (unless I just missed them). They’re at 4-2, with 3 very winnable games left, I’d be surprised if they didn’t make a bowl.

If they need another B1G team it’s more likely to be Wisconsin. They get the Huskers and Hawkeyes at home, and they’ll be favored in their other 5 games. It’s not a stretch to see them at 8-4, and that should be good enough for the 6th best B1G slot.  Even if Nebraska beats Wisconsin and gets to 6-6, the Badgers will still probably go 7-5 because they actually managed to beat Illinois (and didn’t have to play Oklahoma in the nonconference).

I also agree that Maryland is also likely to  be bowl eligible, but their next game at the Gophers is a huge one for them.

I for one, if the team doesn’t end up in the Rose Bowl or playoff, would love to see us up against someone other than a team we have played like 40 some odd in our history, almost feels like playing some cross divisional game when Michigan plays Notre Dame. Just my opinion.

Alabama and OSU are far from being left out of the playoffs at this point. If they both run the table the rest of the way, which they are probably favored to do, then they’re both in.

OSU would have to play and beat multiple top 10 teams so they’d have the resume for it, and Alabama is going to keep getting the benefit of the doubt as long as they don’t lose again.

That being said, I’d really prefer not to play ND in a bowl game. That matchup just seems so…..stale. Give them someone new to play. But if Michigan stomped all over them on national television I wouldn’t be too bummed about it, I suppose.

OSU is going to beat Penn State.  At the Shoe, I'm sure they will move it to a night game and Clifford is questionable for playing........

As for Bama, Saban will use this game to refocus their team.  They have a road game at Miss St next week, then home for Tenn, LSU, New Mexico State!!!, and Arkansas before the Iron Bowl.  They are running the table.  It will be interesting in the SEC championship game.  They must believe that UGA will beat them as they have UGA as the #1 seed.

Also Iowa at #2?  I've watched them a few times now.  Yes, they are a very solid team.  Yes their defense is very good.  But I would take OSU or Michigan (and yes PSU with a healthy Clifford) in the BIG championship game at Indy.....

Steve Sarkisian AND Mac Jones were BIG losses for Nick Saban. I think he could have done better than Bill O'Brian in replacing Sarkisian. Saban will have to pull rabbits out of hats for the rest of the year. But he is someone who can do that. Bryce Young just can't pick apart a defense like Mac Jones did. They still should win the rest of their games. I don't know if Alabama can beat Georgia though.

Two things....

One, isn't is funny that the 2 out of our 3 OCC teams that are projected to go bowling are teh MAC teams and UW is out in the cold.  No one could have predicted that...

Two, I would LOVE a Michigan v ND match up in the Fiesta Bowl (obviously I would refer a BIG championship and CFP berth, but......).  I have a friend who is part of the planning committee for the Fiesta Bowl...

I’d love to play - and beat - ND in a bowl game.

But do we know how serious Clifford’s injury is? PSU’s chances for a Rose Bowl or CFP appearance ride or die on his status.

Cinc has an easy schedule, so they're likely in.

They must be assuming Ohio St seats Penn St, and then Ohio St loses to Iowa in the BIG10 Championship. I do believe Ohio St would beat Penn St. But Iowa isn't beating Ohio St. So I don't think Iowa is in the playoffs. I mean, sure Iowa injures a lot of players, like Clifford going out yesterday, but even if Stroud gets hurt for Ohio St McCord is very good and Ohio St wins anyway.

And they are assuming Georgia beats Alabama  in the SEC championship, which isn't certain.

At this point in the season it kind of seems like Michigan would eat Notre Dame's lunch and any other food it happened to be carrying around. ND had a close game against FSU, got smoked by Cincy, and trailed Wisconsin in the 4th quarter (the final score was not representative of how that game was going). Can't see it even being competitive.
