They just looked so crisp. Like a team that is actually improving in all facets, making the right strides, and one that's gonna be able to compete with anybody this fall. Loved what we saw out of O'Korn, his mobility adds a whole extra dimension to the offense. Very, very enjoyable to watch.

I thought Speight looked the most comfortable. O'Korn impressed with his wheels, but needed to sit in the pocket a little longer on some occasions. Shane showed clear improvement, but was a little streaky.

If the season started today I'd say Speight is your starter. Hopefully as O'Korn gets a better command of the playbook he eases past him.

I don't know how anyone could view that game and think QB's looked uncomfortable. I was extremely impressed with the poise and composure that all QB's displayed. They are lightyears ahead from the last couple of years where you can sense overwhelming panic from those guys in the same situations. Both Speight and Morris displayed excellent pocket awareness and very good footwork to buy space within the pocket. All of them threw very pretty balls even under pressure. This is NOTHING like some of the poor QB form that we saw before Harbaugh got here.

I mean Morris threw some balls high, but most were trying to go over the defenders and away where the receiver still had a chance. That bomb he threw to the back pylon was one of the prettiest passes I have seen in awhile. Morris was pressured, he shifted a couple of times to buy time and threw a bomb effortlessly that came out like a cannon. He put it almost in stride for the receiver and the trailing corner had no chance, only the safety could reach it (and with speed like Dymonte). That was friggin impressive!

I would say I would be fine with any of these guys starting. I would say the floor has been raised to a point where I would expect all of these guys to perform at average B1G QB level at worst. Who knows what the ceiling is? I am very satisfied with the progress that these guys are making.

Living in Brittany, I count on the MGoBloggers for all the inside info.

With Nordin coming in, David might consider following the lead of other players transfering to lesser schools for playing time.

UM did get a preferred 2016 walkon punter with Will Hart (Kornblue n°16).

Speight is closer to O'Korn than I thought he'd be. (Not intended as a slight on O'Korn.)

Isaac looked great. Walker was hitting people hard. Did smith even play?

TE options are many and plentiful and wonderful.

All around things looked crisp. Our defense is a known commodity and our offense did better against them than I thought they would.

With obvious exceptions (i.e. drops) I struggle to differentiate between being great on both sides of the ball and being bad on both of them.  But my feelingsball take is that it we looked way better than last spring.

He could legit challenge for a starting spot next year if the QB spot isn't rock solid. That play he made late in the fourth to roll out to the right and hit Grant Perry in stride for the first down, on the run no less, was a play some college starters can't make.

I've been contemplating the value of Peters' redshirt. With McCaffrey behind him, it might not have much value. This is assuming McCaffrey stays Blue (not suggesting he wont but recruiting and all...) and doesn't bust. If Peters is here for his 5th year and not pling in the NFL then he probably is a bust and not playing here either.

I'd still try to keep his redshirt but I dont think it means a whole lot.

I'd put Peters ahead of Morris who continues to launch every pass five feet over his receiver. Peters and Malzone look to be in third from this admittedly limited snapshot. Totally pleased with Peters' work as a true freshman.

I thought Peters looked good too. After the game Butt said in an interview that "all three" QBs have been doing well in practice. I assume he means O'korn, Speight, and Morris, making it sound like Peters has a very good chance at redshirting this fall.

Part of me has been pulling for Malzone, too, but with the broken hand tonight it's gonna be tough for the kid. Hope he comes back strong as quickly as possible.

I thought Morris had much better touch than he had previously. He had a nice lob to Drake Johnson for the first touchdown. The interception by Dymonte Thomas was thrown perfectly but Thomas just made a great play; it was also a no biggee as it was at the end of the half. He overthrew Wangler badly, but Chesson or Darboh would have run under it. He's making strides.

I like Peters, but he's not close to being ready.

didn't look any different to me.  The TD pass was off a trick play, and even in my 60's I could have made that pass.  Overthrows are common fpr Shane while none of the others had that issue.  I was surprised that Speight looked as solid as he did (in a good way) !  His one incomplete was a ball caught out of bounds that looked like an easy toss that went 50 yards.

O'Korn threw the back-shoulder / 50-50 balls the best.  This is a very effective throw in college football today (msu has lived on that throw for 4 years) ... so I think Speight and O'Korn are 1 & 2 in any order with Shane going to be #3 and Peters will red-shirt.  Peters had 2 very good throws and at least one wtf throw.  But as a true freshman ... certainly showed potential.

The QB position was MY main interest yesterday, and I slept very well last night after returning home from Ann Arbor !!!

This concept of really good players potentially red shirting, but in reality leaving early for the NFL 3 years later, is an under considered piece of the whole redshirt discussion. In the end, I also think Peters does not redshirt.

Maybe I'm looking through Harbaugh tinted glasses, but the team looked more... competitive? All the stories we've heard of Harbaugh competing with recruits, in laser tag, etc. - it looks like it's rubbing off on the players. Down to that last play, each team really fought to win. When the maize team celebrated, they were really basking in the victory, even though it was the Spring Game. This summer is going to take forever.

I agree. The whole team looked a step better than last year's spring game. Lots of walk-ons and 3rd and 4th stringers showed today, but there was still quality in the ranks. Keep in mind that a good number of surefire starters didn't even play, and still we had a great game.

Obviously this is just first impressions, but there were a number of major busts in the running game, both letting running backs and quarterbacks drive thru gaping holes. Some of this may be LB related, some not. I also saw quite a few completions over the middle to TE's that could be on the LB's. Overall, I was hoping to see more.
