Kiffin reportedly interviewed for Maryland job
Saw this on reddit. Not sure if there's anything to it, as the original source is paywalled at 247... but it's an interesting thought. I for one think it would be hilarious.

I don't, actually. I think that a school like Maryland is in a position (read: not much to lose) to take a gamble on a fellow like the Kiff, and it may be a good segue into a higher-tier coaching job if he performs well and if that is in fact what he wants.

Kiffin would certainly bring visibility and an "attitude" that UA might like. Who knows.

But eventually after JH, urbz, mork (if he stays) keep beating him to a pulp, the fans at Maryland will get their spray paint out and....

Yeah, but they don't need the UA money to bring in Kiffin. I think he'd jump at the chance to coach any Power 5 team, and for a relatively small contract.

hiring Kiffin would mean you struck out on your top choices.

I can't see Maryland having already began the interview process, and even if they have, I highly doubt the offensive coordinator from the second ranked team in the nation has time for an interview in the middle of the season.
Most likely what happened, is that some search firm, or the Maryland AD reached out to Kiffin to either gauge his interest, or to do some background research on him, basically just doing their homework. Likely someone got a hold of that info and blew it out of proportion.

I think this is the most likely scenario. I'd guess a search agency asked his agent if Kiffin would be interested in the job, and the agent said "yes".

Lane Kiffin is obviously brilliant, but also a cancer. All the IQ and none of the EQ necessary to be the head man.

Just no.

Please hire him. The Big Ten is relatively tough now. Teams like Michigan need one or two tomato cans to play so they can fatten up their records and have breathing room between playing elite competition. This would be like beating an FCS team and getting credit for beating an FBS team.

Why do people continue to hire him. He is like Charlie Weis. He'll recruit pretty well, be an ass, get stomped by Harbaugh, and then leave the program in shambles or NCAA sanctions.

Why the hell not. You're constantly trash anyway.
November 13th, 2015 at 11:33 PM ^
If I were Maryland and truly had a "why the hell not" attitude I'd pay Mike Leach whatever it took to get him to leave WSU. At least he seems like a good dude (and good coach), where Kiffin...no.

My understanding is that he sodomized him then locked him in a shed.

My recollection (haven't checked this, just memory) is that Leach was more or less completely vindicated and that was one big factor in #CJK5H leaving major sports media. Not saying his senate campaign helped, but I remember having no idea why Leach was fired when the details started coming out with mini-#CJK5H.

If the Alabama job opened up during a hiring season that already has to fill 10 openings, things would get out of control crazy.

Good Lord, I hope not. Keep that jackass out of the big ten...

Kiffin near Wash, DC? Like Dantoni to E. Lansing. Close to the perfect match.

Kiffin isn't an upgrade from Edsall....
November 13th, 2015 at 11:27 PM ^
Couple years under captain happy pants at Alabama may be exactly what he needed. There is never been much questions about his x and o's. He has just had a graduate class in running a winning football team and a piece of humble pie the size of California. They don't expect much and with Underarmour money they could get some good assistants. He could just do something.

You know, by now, Kiffin's family must be getting the impression that his coaching career is going to be a long, meandering version of "National Lampoon's Vacation" where they only stop in any given place for perhaps a night or two befoe packing up and moving on, possibly to College Park in this case, if indeed this somehow became a reality.
It would go towards making the Big Ten East an interesting division indeed, but I suppose we shall see what in fact happens first. Maryland could use an intriguing stopgap hire anyway.
November 13th, 2015 at 11:29 PM ^
He can recruit. It would be interesting at least, which is more than can be said about the last guy. Didn't they pass on Leach the list time around?
November 13th, 2015 at 11:31 PM ^
At least Leach has won somewhere before.
November 13th, 2015 at 11:30 PM ^
Actually seems kind of logical...they need some kind of jump start...having said that he'll probably get the job and tank

They just fired the AD, the chancellor and provost resigned recently. They might be better off following the Minnesota example and keep Bill Cubit around a little longer. I don't think anyone is turning Maryland down to take that job now.
