Kicker Recruiting - A Visitor per Sam Webb?
Just listened to the recruiting roundup and Sam said that Matt Goudis, the #5 kicker to Scout, is going to visit this weekend for the Illinois game. He is currently committed to Boise St, but I am sure anyone can see the immediate playing time at UM. Hopefully he doesn't listen to 99% of people on this board and freak out and bail on the program, and maybe we can start to get this thing turned around.

can we just suit the kid up on the spot??*
*I already know the answer here, and am not looking for a response. Thank you.

99% of who??

The ones UM gave were to good kickers in HS. That's the problem. HS kicking is unlike College kicking. It's what's between the ears and hopefully our kickers will settle in and become more comfortable kicking/punting in college.

Gibbons was a top 5 kicker coming out of highschool as well. How many flyers are we going to take on kickers?

Enough until we can actually kick field goals. Its hard to outscore opponents without field goals.
Besides, its much much more likely that a top 5 kicker will pan out then walk-ons and student body tryouts. See OSU

HS kicking is unlike College kicking.
It is and it isn't. I think the bigger issue is the process of recruiting kickers, particularly the evaluation of whether they have the mental make up to make the jump. It's just my opinion, but I think Michigan has traditionally utterly lacked the ability to evaluate the mentality of these kids and develop them properly when they arrive. It's no accident that certain programs constantly have very good kickers. Everyone jokes about OSU's current kicker, but they have had very good kickers for a long time. Same thing with Penn State.

Great that they are now looking at a kicker.
As to your comment regarding the 99 percent of the people who are freaked out and about to bail, I don't know of anyone bailing out. Do you think that maybe most of us simply want to win and wonder if the current direction is the best one to reach that end?
There is a fuck load of difference between discussing coaching philosophies and bailing on the program and perhaps you should be aware of that distinction before posting that in your thread while at the same time berating others about their adverse influences.

Do you think that the rest of us want something other than that?

Can't we just invite Rivas back for a game and just suit him up in Gibbons uni
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:14 AM ^
Considering Rivas probably weighs about 300 lbs now. Probably not.

I don't think Rivas would fit into the uniform. They've gotten a little tighter since he played.

Gibbons is a big kid.....beef him up a bit, move him to LB

At this point, I'm thinking that kicking is fairly low on the list of problems that need fixing . . . But that's not to say we don't need a kicker so come play for Michigan and be a star, kid!

have you seen our kicking game? Its probably costing this team 7 points alone every game.

Dr. Phillips HS has a kicker that is supposed to have a strong leg...let's bring him in, he can't be any worse than the guys we got. PLus we may be bringing in about 9 of his teammates. Maybe he is freinds with Clinton-Dix...

could the dr. phillips defense be better than our defense?

Didn't one of the guys on the soccer team say he'd be interested if the football games weren't during the soccer season? So if we simply changed the soccer schedule... I'm sure the other schools we play wouldn't mind switching the soccer season to start in, say, February, and if there's too much snow and ice on the ground we could always have the games in the Glick fieldhouse....
