Khaleke Hudson Crystal Ball to UM (Steve Wiltfong of 247)

Submitted by Indonacious on

Steve Wiltfong just put his crystal ball to Michigan for Khaleke Hudson (ATH), likely to play safety. For those that dont know, he is a prospect that has generated more hype recently with his play in the Semper-Fidelis All-Star game. Scout in their final rankings bumped him up to a 4* and #273 overall.

Wiltfong is very accurate for U of M picks, at 84%, so this is likely very good news for the good guys.

He reports offers from schools like Michigan, Pitt, PSU, WVU, MSU, Va Tech, UCLA, and Wisconsin.

He has scheduled visits upcoming to Pitt and PSU.

Peppers will be a first round pick, but not #1 overall, if that's what you meant.  Even Charles Woodson only went fourth, after Peyton Manning, Ryan Leaf and FSU DE Andre Wadsworth.

Still, I think Peppers is gone after this season.  I think he will be projected high enough that Harbaugh will be the first to tell him he can't afford to leave that much money on the table.

To be fair, the last time a defensive back went 1st overall was Gary Glick in 1956. No CBs has been picked as high as Woodson in 1998 (#4) since, and few have been picked the same or higher (#3 for Sean springs 1997, Bruce Pickens 1991, Bennie blades 1988; #4 Kenny Easley 1980). Even Deion sanders was a #5 pick.

Would be an excellent addition.  He looked great in his all star game.  Big hitter with speed.

Could be a heckuva playmaker in Coach Brown's defensive scheme.

So let me say the competition did not look good, but he reminded me of a more athletic, slightly smaller Ben Gedeon in high school -- which says something seeing as how Gedeon was nicknamed The Freak.

He will probably need a redshirt year to adjust to the competition level (or exclusively play special teams in 2016), but I would like the pickup despite his lower rating on ESPN, Rivals, and 24/7.

He performed extremely well in the late season all-american stuff versus better competition.

His recruitment reminds me of Greg Mathews. A kid who flew under the radar and blew up his senior year.

His junior year stuff is nothing special, but kids grow and progress at different rates and he seems to fit the definition of a late bloomer. IMO you need those kids, because with 5* prospects you may end up with the opposite (Kalis, and maaaybe Green) in a kid who hit puberity and grew faster than all the kids early...dominated until all of the other kids caught up to him.

I like the fact that he's just scratching the surface and getting better.

Let him come in, redshirt...watch Jabrill and he can better Tyree Kinnel for that spot if Peppers leaves after next year. Otherwise, they can fight it out after Peppers leaves in 2 years.

I'll take another shot at a best guess list...

24. TE-Chase Allen

25. CB-David Long

26. CB-Lavert Hill

27. NICK-Khaleke Hudson

28. DT/DE-Rashan Gary

29. DE-Connor Murphy, Levi Onwuzurike, Josh King, or Josh Uche

30. LB-Jonathan Jones

--------------------------------------------------------------------

- Rashad Weaver or greyshirt for Weaver

+ Jake Raulerson

- Nate Johnson

+ Pie Young or Donald Stewart

+ (greyshirt) Quinn Nordin

--------------------------------------------------------------------

That puts us at 30 commits counting Raulerson as one, plus 1 or 2 greyshirts.

247Sports puts that at 287.24.

But I could be wrong, I don't know much about his recruitment.

I personally think we close with the names above and we get Murphy OR King at the DE spot (Levi O to Washington and Uche to Florida).

I think we lose Johnson and get Pie Young...Donald Stewart to Stanford.

If all of this happened. I'd cry I'd be so happy, and that's sad (but true).

They will take Dwumfour just to lock up the Gary recruitment. They were wanting to recruit him earlier, but he could be a clearinghouse risk. Dwumfour is best friends with Gary and told Sam while visiting Gary at the UA game that if he flipped to UM, it would all but lock up Gary. Risk is worth it to me, since the kid can play anyway.

I wanted to go back and edit, but with that finish of a 287.24, here's how we would rank since 2010.

2015 (3rd)

2014 (4th)

2013 (5th) - behind Michigan w/ Green, Kugler, Thomas, Morris, Bosch...yikes

2012 (3rd/4th)

2011 (3rd)

2010 (4th)

I look for us to finish 3rd, maybe 4th if we close with this class. Note that Raulerson would not factor into the rankings.
