JT Barrett was driving a brand new Ford Explorer with dealership tags

So says a OSU poster on the Ozone board. Can't wait to hear Gene Smith tell us this is just another "isolated incident."

I wish we could just ship those cheating cooler poopers off to the $EC where they belong.

er, I mean selling car for those who aren't in a position to get a temporary, short-term, 3-year loaner deal, such as a national championship backup qb recently named the Buckeye's new starter.

Someone ought to call up the dealership and ask about its dealer plating policy and then simply ask how you get to acquire a loaner car for your temporary-long-term driving needs. I'm sure you'll get an honest answer.

just as it has for decades.

Was once told flat out in the 80's OSU players were hired by a wealthy booster to paint fences for $15 an hour (about $35 today) and they didn't even need to show up.

so nothing's really changed down there.

Man, if only we had Uber here in Columbus...or like some sort of service where you could get a ride to a destination for a fee. Shame nobody has thought of something like this...

That's what I don't get about collegiate/professional athletes. Call a cab or take Uber.

I mean hell, if Barrett called Uber, whenever the person driving the car realized who he was, they probably would've waived the fare and personally escorted him to his front door, tucked him in and kissed him good night.

No sympathy for anyone making piss poor decisions like that. I'm sure he'll learn from it, but still, piss poor decision on his part.

Barrett has been suspended for one game, next week against Minnesota. And he was stopped after trying to avoid a DUI checkpoint outside Columbus early Saturday morning. He was apparentlly released into the custody of teammate Cardale Jones.

The ESPN story had no details on the car he was driving, its plating and registration.

But, according to athletic director, Gene Smith, Urban Meyer decided on the punishment.

Barrett, 20, a sophomore, failed a Brethalyzer test and was cited for misdemeanor OVI. He was arrested and released into the custody of his teammate. The incident was initially reported on the Eleven Warriors website.

Funny...when I was a full time college student I drove around in an old beater. Never thought that a full time college student would be able to test drive a vehicle worth 50k. Wish I would known that...me and my buds could have tooled around in Cadillacs! Everyone can do this right ..?

about the charge and the consequences of it. Not sure how Ohio law enforcement treats OVI offenses in terms of detention for a driver who blows higher than the legal limit. But isn't the driver's car impounded or left at the scene of the stop and the subject detained until sobriety can be assured? The reports on Eleven Warriors and ESPN are lacking specific details and offer nothing about the car Barrett was allegedly driving, it's plating and registration.

However, the citation itself and the police report would indicate all that information, offering a convenient public record, to determine that aspect of the incident, whether the car Barrett was driving belonged to him or was registered in his name. If not, then an enterprising reporter might be asking more intriuging questions about the vehicle's ownership and Barrett's use of it. And that might have a greater influence on the consquences of the matter.

Here's another question about a one-game punishment for this offense. OSU did not have several key players available for its season opener against Va Tech. I have no idea what those guys did to earn that punishment. But does the nature of an OVI offense, which in Barrett's case, is only a misdemeanor, really dictate the nature of his suspension, usually a two-week suspension for something other than a misdemeanor?

Let's wait until there is confirmation of what kind of car he was driving. Some random poster on a site that looks like it was designed in 1998 is not credible.

There was not a post on Pepper's "situation" for this very reason.

rather than be booked into jail and detained for any length of time, Barrett was given a written ticket and a court date will be set for an appearance on the charge. Unclear is whether this option is standard in misdemeanor OVI cases.

This is the team captain. You know damn well if he weren't a buckeye he would've went to jail. The OVI is one thing, but if they are being given cars again, something needs to happen to these cheating scumbags

So I am reminded of where my love of college sports has gone. And they are all doing this BS icluding Michigan. I suppose it's always been there to some extent but it's really given my Fandom a hit in the last decade. It could also be because I am now paying room and board for my daughter who is on an academic scholarship.

I thought everybody knew that OSU players get free dealership cars all the time. You park your clunker in the back of the dealership so if you are stopped while driving around you can (and they all do) say that this is just a loaner until they get my car fixed. Works even if you are as dumb as ......say Maurice Clarrett......
