Jourdan Lewis Charged with Misdemeanor Domestic Violence

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

This will probably have to be locked, but below is the story:

Former Michigan All-American CB Jourdan Lewis facing domestic violence charge. From @John_Countshttps://t.co/GUu6Z5onKv

Obviously we don't have all the facts, but definitely not a good look for him.

MOD EDIT: We're going to keep speculation to a minimum. K? K. Good talk.

MOD EDIT 2: To keep everyone from having to constantly monitor this thread, going to set it to read-only. Until new-thread-worthy details emerge, there's been plenty of discussion.

The stupidity you've displayed in this blitheringly ignorant post hopefully disqualifies you from "Michigan Man" status as well, I hope. I will give people the benefit of the doubt, especially in situations like this. And even if it is true, it doesn't take away from the message that Lewis promoted, which is equality for everyone.

Problem: I don't really know the character of Jourdain Lewis or any other athlete I've ever rooted for. They are not personal acquaintances or friends. The closest I've ever gotten to know the character of an athlete are some kids that I've ministered to in a youth group who have played varsity high school sports, and my takeaway is that even "good" kids are capable of dumb stuff.

I think there is a plausible scenario in which this is nothing, or, worse, a deliberate attempt to harm JD. There is also a plausible scenario in which JD committed a crime of domestic violence. There is simply no way to know what has happened right now.

It sounds like you have some familiarity with the parties involved, so it may be possible for you to trust the character of one person or another, but most of the people on this board know nothing at all about any athlete in the Michigan athletic department.

DMT's response to me basically granted that even a good person could lose control, but that he hated the idea of someone's life getting turned upside down for something that wasn't as bad as this could sound on the surface (roughly paraphrasing).

It was properly nuked because DMT mentioned the name of the alleged victim, which is a really bad idea, and I totally agree with the comment being nuked. I also appreciate that DMT himself hasn't been banned or this thread locked. More work for the Mods, probably, but better in the long run. But the other party should not and cannot be identified publicly in this manner.

DMT, you're closer to this situation than anyone else in this thread, this is clearly a big deal for you (and rightly so), but you are touching a pretty tight line. I genuinely appreciate your contributions to this board and this thread; can I encourage you, as an anonymous message board friend, to take a break from the thread and let things cool a bit? I don't want the Mods to ice you and I don't want you to say something you later regret. I'm not trying to be mean or short here--you just know an awful lot and this is some pretty sensitive stuff on a pretty widely read message board, and you're really close to it.

Everyone deserves their day in court. Jourdan will get his, and we'll know the facts then.

Either way, no matter what the verdict is, his stock is going to take a pretty bad tumble. Domestic violence is about the only thing these days that the league takes a consistent approach to.

Very disappointing but i will withhold final judgment until the legal process is completed. Unfortunately the media and teams in the draft do not have that option. If it is true, i hope his girlfriend is getting all the support she needs.

My wife said she saw them at a local pet supply store a year or so ago and they looked like a great couple, getting along, etc.  Of course I know that means little.  I hope this situation can get resolved positively for all involved and it doesn't turn any uglier than it already is.

If you follow JD on social media, he is quite endearing about his gf.  Something must have gone really sideways with this one.  Male athletes have to be very careful...

Honestly, if it was almost anyone else on the team, I'd be more concerned.  JL gets a very strong benefit of the doubt here from me at least.  I think once the details emerge from this we'll find out that the altercation was minimal.  We're not talking about a Joe Mixon situation here.

I know one side of the story and I'll just say this...

If this side is true, just let the facts come out. If it false, send his ass to jail.

I happen to believe this side of the story, but I don't believe too much of anything to be 100% one way or another - especially people I don't consider myself to know intimately. So while I strongly lean in one direction on this, I've learned in my time on this earth that just about anything is possible.

The frustrating thing is if this side is true...it likely won't be finalized until after the draft (hence the tweet). The other frustrating thing is, if this side is true --- it's not really something that coudl've been avoided (for those thinking, "you still can't put yourself in that kind of situation.")

"Love" can be painful - and when someone feels scorned or wronged, sometimes you never know how far they'll go to make you feel their pain. Especially without knowing the consequences in the heat of the moment.

Anyway, we'll see... As you can tell, I lean one way, but I'm not going to go so far as to be that person on the news saying "he was such a great kid, never any issues...the type of person I'd want my daughter to marry." Those people crack me up, there are very few people in this world that we TRULY know 100% - sometimes that even includes the ones we love.

May justice prevail and those truly in the wrong see punishment to the fullest extent of the law.

Glad no one reported being seriously hurt.  In a perfect world, all criminally accused would get the benefit of the doubt unless and until there is a conviction.

I always thought of JD as more of a Dave Chappelle instead of a Wayne Brady.

hopefully it turns out alright and what he is accused of is false. Sometimes you need to learn to just walk away from any conflict.

The draft is in a month, whether or not he's guilty of wrongdoing, this could affect his draft stock. Bad all around, but also really bad timing.

This sucks!!! JD was one of my favorite players ever to wear the maize & blue. Hope this situation gets resolved because they seemed like a very couple from a distance.

No fighting; not with anyone, boys or girls, men or women. Just....walk.......away. Let the testerone flow on the field and in the weight room and nowhere else. Jourdan got involved in a fight and whether he was legally in the right or wrong, he will suffer. May his suffering be short and mild; may he gain wisdom in the process.

We have zero idea what, if anything, did or didn't happen.

Also, hold up, are police really arresting people for DV now without anything except the party alleging the DV alleging the DV?

Incredibly sad. I remember JD talked a lot about his girlfriend, there was even an article written on the two I believe, talked about how she kept him grounded when he started to blow up in fame. Such a sad situation

Without assuming the worst in this case, these domestic violence cases in football are beginning to turn me more away from the sport. It seems as though you see at least 5-10 of these a year.... I suppose basketball has the same issue, but at the collegiate level it doesn't seem as ubiquitous.

All I can do is shake my head reading some of the responses here. None of you know anything, on either side, other than what is written in the article. But you have this need to let everyone know your e-pinions on your perception of the situation. Just stop.

We'll all know more in the near future. Save the deep thoughts for that time.

Wasnt there a long article about Jourdan's life and his maturation and a big part of that was his perfect relationship with this girl and her positive influence on him?  Or am I remembering this wrong.

Me when frank clark got charged with domestic violence "yeah I can see that" Me when Lewis gets charged "don't believe he did something awful". His girlfriend is tiny, if he assualted her the police would be able to tell very easily. They have been dating YEARS, and now that he is about to get paid she has a problem ? Yeah ok.

(Welcome back!)

That's encouraging, but not conclusive: Minnesota players nearly skipped a bowl game for a situation that was, allegedly, even worse than the alleged situation here.

If those guys are working off of real information, that real information will be revealed both to the legal system and to potential employers soon enough.
