JJ McCarthy words on a wall at Ohio St

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on March 1st, 2022 at 12:57 AM

This quote from JJ McCarthy in the recent interview gets noticed by the Ohio St world:

“For us, the whole 10-year stretch of us not winning - that’s all we know is beating Ohio State right now...so we’re going to keep that going.”

It has been spread far and near in Ohio St circles. It's a major headline.

And it got put on a wall at some building named after a crazy coach that punched a player on the opposing team in the throat and started to choke him. Yeah, they named a building after him.

JJ McCarthy responded on his IG. In a day of big NIL money he found him self some free of charge living space:

I mean I haven’t really liked the trash talk coming out of AA since the game and I’m all for whatever bulletin board material we can get… but he didn’t say anything false. The guys that are starting their second year haven’t lost to OSU. Idk why all of the fans are getting butthurt about it. It’s just facts.

He should invite them to build a statue of him after he kicks their asses.

But those words aren't really on a wall. They're on a tv. It'd be a step too far even for OSU, a program that is too juvenile to say the word Michigan, to paint a Michigan player's words on their wall. I mean, they can still get more pathetic, but let's not get ahead of them.

The thing is, they don't mention what the ... represents. Here's the full quote.

“For us, the whole 10-year stretch of us not winning - that’s all we know is beating Ohio State right now. The night before we watched Super Troopers and the '97 Michigan/OSU game in custom maize and blue onesies, so we’re going to keep that going.”

Hits a little different now, right?

They are reaching.  Posting something from a fan page to get you up is reaching.

Nothing will be as incendiary as Day saying he is putting 100 up on us.

No offense to JJ, what a stupid thing to say. But I'm glad OSU is so soft after 20 years of winning that this makes them cry their selves to sleep at night.

You should have heard the local radio guys here in Columbus. It was like re-living the aftermath of the victory all over again. Part of me wishes 11/27/2021 was my very own Groundhog Day. Getting up every day and watching it over and over again on loop.

Sure, let's memorialize the words of the opposition's backup QB.

It sometimes helps you to push yourself through a difficult practice by fabricating hate for the opposition (see Michael Jordan), but it doesn't always work and it doesn't work for lifetime.

I am embarrassed that that is the best motivational quote they can find to put on a wall.

We are in a weird time in sports where it seems most bulletin board material is forced...this is one of those times.

I do hope Michigan doubles down with the whole "what are you doing to beat osu today" mantra and the laser like focus. Judging from the comments of JJ et al it sounds like they are confident but still have a sour taste in their mouth over last year and are ready to rock.

This team could really be special next year and that is pretty damn exciting after the year we just had.

That's just about the weakest bulletin board material I've ever seen. It's on the same level as Iowa's QB saying "there's multiple ways we can attack this defense" when he was asked "how do you plan to attack this defense"

Oh, no. Now OSU really cares about The Game unlike the past 20 years where they've been so indifferent about TSUN. What ever shall Michigan do now that their backup/presumed 2022 starting QB's words are...up on their wall?!

We've done it now, UM fans.

They can do what they want. They got another 9 months to stew. BTW, anyone else notice how short the offseason felt this year? Normally it feels like 6 months between losing to OSU and spring practice. It still feels like we just beat OSU last weekend.

It does seem like OSU is willing to twist words and take things out of context to make everything bulletin board material. But it is hilarious to see their fanbase foaming at the mouth all of the time.

Let's all hope that OSU brings silly putty to the gun fight in Columbus next year and that Michigan puts together another devastating beatdown of the shmuckeyes.

Rent free.

A great response to a non-starter quote if you really need trash talk to get your team ready.  I mean, they only need 73 more points to live up to Day's promise, so whatever it takes, I guess...

Go ahead and put this up on your tv screen too.

The funniest part to me is they dropped the 'S' in TSUN to now it's just "The Up North", which is vintage OSU trying to be clever and confusing themselves.

They can post whatever they want. From here on out we’re going to give them everything they want every year. Aidan, Josh Ross, Hassan Haskins etc. set the tone and every class behind them will know the standard. If OSU thinks things will go back you “normal” they have another thing coming.

Think that whole fanbase and team is going through PTSD after that beatdown....need to put down the meth pipe and seek help....

He didn't say anything that isn't true. Now he'll have to go back it up, in Columbus, next November, but OSU got to run its mouth unabated for the last decade. They earned the right to because they won. Now Michigan has earned its right to talk, at least until the end of November, because they won. And they didn't just win. They won convincingly. There were no flukes, no "refs decided the game" moments, it was just a good old-fashioned ass-whipping where OSU's defense was thrown into a meat grinder with the setting on 10.

If OSU doesn't like that, then that's OSU's problem. Everything is cool and funny until it happens to you, then apparently its classless, bush league and disrespectful.

Winning in Columbus next year is going to be extremely hard to do, but can you imagine the full-on meltdown in that town if it happens? The entire city would look like General Sherman got resurrected and took a detour on his "march to the sea" to go straight through Ohio. The entire city would be a pile of smoldering ashes by Sunday morning.

If they have that kind of masochistic streak, let's be happy to watch them indulge it. Dwelling in the past, picking at your wounds. . . sounds like a productive plan!

TUN is team up north.  Not that hard guys.  With that said, fuck Ohio St and their pearl clutching cooler shitting fans.  Their world got absolutely rocked on 11/27/21 and they literally don't know what to do with themselves.

My significant others family are Buckeye fans and I am sure this will hurt their feelings. Her dad was furious when Gattis called them soft.
