JJ McCarthy words on a wall at Ohio St

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on March 1st, 2022 at 12:57 AM

This quote from JJ McCarthy in the recent interview gets noticed by the Ohio St world:

“For us, the whole 10-year stretch of us not winning - that’s all we know is beating Ohio State right now...so we’re going to keep that going.”

It has been spread far and near in Ohio St circles. It's a major headline.

And it got put on a wall at some building named after a crazy coach that punched a player on the opposing team in the throat and started to choke him. Yeah, they named a building after him.

JJ McCarthy responded on his IG. In a day of big NIL money he found him self some free of charge living space:

This has to be the tamest trash talk ever.  He saying that he's 1-0 vs OSU and the team plans on continuing to beat OSU.

If Day is that desperate for motivation, we're in better shape vs him than I thought.

When did we become Team Up North?

Their insistence on stupid shit is eventually going to eat them up. Why? Well, focusing on Michigan is great. But if they lose a few in a row, they almost have to fire their coach. And their luck in coaching hires may have run out ...

Did I miss the context here?

“For us, the whole 10-year stretch of us not winning - that’s all we know is beating Ohio State right now...so we’re going to keep that going.”

Doesn't that just mean, we had a history of not beating OSU, we got it done last year, that's what we know and we are totally focused on keeping it going and intend to.

That's how I read it why should that make any waves?  Is he supposed to say "we got our one win for this decade so we will just take Ls for a while now"?

They get offended so easily for everything that is said by us in the rivalry. This comes from the team and fan base that won’t say our name and blocks out the M’s, (most of them usually cuz they’re not that bright). How dare we ever say anything against that team??? I hope this is the start of the 90s again when we totally dominated Cooper.

I don’t envy these student athletes.  That is a very mild, respectful quote.  It seems too subtle to be bulletin board material.  My how the state of the rivalry has changed with Michigan’s most recent win… I forget the final score… maybe someone can remind me…

That's about as factual a statement as there is and is in no way trash talking, but hey whatever helps them get motivated I guess. Maybe it will help them give up only 4 rushing TDs and 8 YPC instead of 10 next year.

I'd have thought the absolute beatdown last year would be motivation enough.

Seems to me a better motivator would be to put the score up there on the TV, or a montage of Haskins running free, or a photo of the entire defense quitting on the last M touchdown, or collage of OL on their backs as Michigan's DL runs free in the backfield.

Someone thought a fact the backup QB stated during an interview would be more motivational, and others approved it. It's just ..... weird.

For a team and fanbase that talks more shit than anyone I have ever encountered, they REALLY get butthurt about the most mild, petty, and insignificant stuff.

Despite 2016 which, well...yeah...we haven't won in Columbus since 2000. It's high time to put an end to that shit.

Ronnie Bell or someone else could say something like, "We really have to bring our A+ game to Columbus this season to have a shot at it, because there's a whole lotta elite talent at OSU," and the response would likely be "HOW DARE THEY DISRESPECT US BY THINKING THEY HAVE A CHANCE."

It's just the nature of the rivalry, though. It's actually GOOD to see this type of thing going on (before ya know it, they are gonna be selling shirts in Ohio... ;-) )

This is like the most non story quote turned bulletin board material. Three sophomores beat OSU as freshmen, who weren't there for the past decade of losses, and basically said they want to keep that going and somehow that's bulletin board material?

That is so ridiculously tame. What a lame thing to use as forced motivation. Should put up the 'finesse team' quote instead.

I don't get what "TUN" is supposed to mean. That Up North? They Up North? Them Up North? Those Up North? Isn't it supposed to be TSUN or TTUN?

Many Buckeye fans are ridiculously obsessed with Michigan football. They're self-identity is completely wrapped up in whether or not OSU beats Michigan.

That said, there are Michigan fans who have been ridiculously arrogant and asinine over the years. I want to beat OSU every single year, but since Carr left, and even a bit before, Michigan fans don't have any grounds, imhe, to be arrogant.

You know, I used to cringe when UM players would give OSU or MSU bulletin board material. "That was dumb!" I'd scream to anyone in shouting distance. But in my old "get off my lawn" age, I've come to realize that no matter what the Buckeyes and Spartans will reach for any bulletin board material they can get. No strike that from the record! They will create bulletin board material if we don't provide it. SO, why not just give them what they want and lets just go out and curb stomp them? I can think of 42 reasons why to just give them material.

I still remember the blank look on his face near the end of the second quarter.
