Jim Delany in a Character Conundrum/Late Night Drinking Thread
Did anyone see Jim Delany's B1G Championship trophy presentation?
He recapped the game, while fighting back tears of having a B1G team in the BSCS championship.
Do you think Mr. Delany will have nightmares/tears after little brother won the B1G championship?
I'm drinking [Uncle] Nikolai and Canada Dry Tonic with a Lime Twist.
Go Blue.

...once he realizes that Rutgers and Maryland are joining the conference shortly.
I'll admit, though, that he put on a strange show.

My favorite part was when he said, "Give Ohio State a round of applause,' and everyone booed. He turned away from the mic and said, "Oh c'mon..."

I would love for my daughter to see it. Thanks.

The "Little Brother" thing - as much as many people hate it now - goes beyond just football. It's a pretty accurate description of the entirity of Michigan v MSU on any level.
December 8th, 2013 at 12:30 AM ^
This. "Little brother" is so much more than football. It's about the constant attention, the feeling of anger and rejection of not getting into Michigan, the understanding of exactly how much better we are in almost everything, and the massive inferiority complex that infects virtually every single one of their pathetic fans. Regardless of how much success they have, they will always be little brother.
December 8th, 2013 at 7:01 AM ^
Do I have friends who are MSU fans exactly how you described, yes and I have already heard from them. I don't think it's a fair representation of their fan base.
Some times Little Brother grows up to be bigger and stronger than Big Brother and gets out all of that frustration that they had over the years. That's what's happening. Instead of acting like we are better, let's actually be better by being better sports and don't be a Canoe and let them be happy, since it is their first Rose Bowl in my lifetime.
We will get them next year, but until then we should be quiet.

I heard about 80% of the radio time talking about who Michigan should root for and how that makes msu feel. They are little brother.....

"Nothing is always true all of the time."
Except that statement.

THIS * 1,000 @Dominick's Lunch. The obsession with MSU around here is getting way out of hand. Congratulate them and move on. Part of being the "big brother" is showing class and sportsmanship in defeat and in understanding this is a blip in the radar and all will be back to normal shortly.
December 8th, 2013 at 12:34 AM ^
No. They are little brother. They will always be little brother. It's about more than just sports.
December 8th, 2013 at 1:48 AM ^
Yeah that is right. I am not sure why they get so pissed about it. I mean, we're saying that we are bros.

I think we should quit using the term, not because about what it says about them, but what it says about us. It makes us look small, particularly when they've beat us like a drum for the past seven years. You can talk when you win. Better yet, be above the trivial as a norm. It was a funny comment when Hart made it forever ago. It should have remained a one-time funny comment by a player after a game.
December 8th, 2013 at 4:27 PM ^
for your comment. The Little Brother meme is embarrassing and does nothing more than reflect the insecurities of those using it. Since I know absolutely no one who uses the term, I sometimes wonder whether it is used disproportionately more by those who did not actual go to school in Ann Arbor.

The "little brother meme" won't stop until Sparty wins enough to erase their 35-game deficit in the W-L column against Michigan (33-68-5).

ohio lost. Michigan did not. Pinkies in the air.

No way they stay in front of Auburn somehow? I'm assuming that the title game is almost certainly FSU-Auburn at this point
December 8th, 2013 at 12:28 AM ^
Yes it is FSU-Auburn for sure
December 8th, 2013 at 12:35 AM ^
if you believe in "home field advantage" at all, and think the two best teams should play for the national championship, shouldn't it be FSU-Bama?
December 8th, 2013 at 12:46 AM ^
Auburn beat Alabama on the field and both are 1-loss teams now. Absolutely no reason to put Bama in over Auburn
December 8th, 2013 at 12:48 AM ^
but I think Bama would be favored over Auburn at a neutral site. Funny how sports work. I think most people, myself included, are so tired of Bama by now that we're happy we have an excuse to exclude them from the championship game.
December 8th, 2013 at 1:05 AM ^
Sports are definitely weird. If Ohio State and MSU played again on a neutral site next week, OSU may still be favored. But that's how it works. Bama may be the "better" team than Auburn. But Auburn beat them and that's all that matters. The best measure we have is head-to-head, even if one team is at home. It will be FSU-Auburn in the MNC. I am 100000000000000000% positive of that, and honestly I can't argue with the BCS on this one.

Picking Bama over Auburn would be like giving the Lombardi trophy to the 2007 Patriots because they were clearly better than the Giants team that beat them in the Super Bowl.

Now that Auburn and Michigan State will be kindred spirits for the near future, how about we set up a mixed tag team match
Michigan and Alabama vs. Auburn and Michigan State
