Jaylen Brown possibly down to Cal/Michigan

Submitted by WorldwideTJRob on
Paul Biancardi just said on ESPN Recruiting Nation that sources close to Jaylen Brown's family say his final decision will come down to Cal and Michigan. Just another good sign today that our Bball future is looking bright. All hail Lord Beilein!!!

Am I missing something? why are all the lineup projections putting Wilson as a definite contributor? He did nothing of any relevance looked lost every time out and then got hurt. Also we all know jb will play Wagner at the 5 not the 4 I would love to see a two big lineup but I've given up all hope and am now in the realization that we will always have 3 wings

Because redshirts usually mean improvement. He played like that in the first games of his young career. If we can expect Duncan Robinson to do anything then we can put some stock in D.J.

I feel like that epic display by THJ during the NBA Rising Stars Challenge from last year provides a pretty decent visual reaffirmation of just how damn good Beilein & Co. are at refining players' outside shots, which apparently is what Brown needs the most work on.

And although I'm a firm believer that messaging recruits is just plain wrong, maybe nonchalantly copying a link onto the twitters (or whatever platform it is that people use to post videos) of Timmy making it rain for Jaylen to see wouldn't actually be utterly terrible.

Jaylen Brown is a top five recruit.  The chances that he doesn't start anywhere he goes are slim at the most.

Check out his profile.  He's a got all of the physical tools to start plus he's smart.  He's a good distributor and a decent shooter.  I think Brian or Ace said it best when they described him as "sophomore Caris".  A great ball handler with a decent 3 point shot.

I think "sophomore Caris" as a comparison makes no sense. Brown is a much more explosive athlete and a lot more physically developed. That's a comparison that is only built on two traits which happen to ignore Brown's strength. I have seen a lot of analysts say this but he plays and is built a lot like Stanley Johnson from last yrs class. Stanley Johnson and a sophomore Caris are not close to the same player.

Another poster had posted this earlier today. But Sam Webb said that Jaylen brown has gone radio silent for the most part. When asked about in home visits he said he didn't want to say too much but that he has kept in contact with certain schools and coaches. He didn't want to say much more but basically seemed he was implying that Michigan was one of those schools. He also said he didn't want to say much more and ruin Michigan's chances with Jaylen Brown. He then ended by saying Michigan definitely is still in the race and has as good a shot as anyone (I paraphrased).

I can't think of any that were stars their 1st year, except McGary who wasn't a guard.  Even that guy who was the best player in college basketball didn't win it until his second year.  There's a steep learning curve moreso than a lot of schools.

I think if he comes it will be to compete for a starting job but understanding it may not happen.

the kid. I think, if it's between Cal and Michigan, the Wolverines might have an advantage. Beilein is considered an offensive genius, Martin a defensive minded coach with an emphasis on toughness. Geography and family ties favor the Wolverines. Michigan will upperclassman experience which is a perfect platform for a star. The conference gets plenty of national attention and air play.

From the outside it seems like the best decision for him would be Cal. At cal he could be one of the center pieces of the program. Most likely he will be a one and done and in that year he wants to look the best for NBA scouts. Even though Cal did terrible last year he will play quality minutes for them and has a great supporting cast. His solid supporting cast includes #6 recruit in the country ivan rabb and Tyrone Wallace who is a projected early second round pick in the NBA draft but most likely won't go. Both schools are great academically but Cal has the edge as they are the #1 public school in the country. I think he will pick michigan due to their Adidas ties but personally I think cal is the best fit.

That's not true in the slightest.

From the first five results after searching "global university rankings."

Berkeley: 8,3,4,27,7 (avg=9.8, with one massive outlier bringing it way down)

Michigan: 17,14,22,23,21 (avg=19.4)

that the staff would contact Brown to see where he stands. Even if Brown didn't say "no" but just declined to make a decision yet, Sam says the staff would take Williams and close out recruiting.

I guess it depends on how good a shot the staff really think they have with Brown.

I watched Kenny Williams vids, and i really, really like the kid.

Many fans do not understand the difference between a scorer and a shooter.  Allen Iverson was a scorer.  Glen Rice was a shooter. Give me a shooter over a scorer any and every day.  Just because a guy scores 30 a game does not mean he is worth a $hit.  If a guy is scoring 30 a game but taking 35 shots to get it, the team is not winning a championship anytime soon.

Kenny Williams is a shooter.  He is extremely efficient, and has an under control game.  He is a very smart player. I would be extremely estatic if we land him.

Brown wants to be a superstar when he leaves college, even if that means going two/three years in college. I think Beilein can do that better than Cals coach

...and Cal? Like, the University of California, Berkeley? He must really like the colors because otherwise I don't see how Cal could be competing with Michigan from a basketball standpoint.

I think if we get Brown then Spike will redshirt for sure. no point in trying to bring him back early and getting hurt again. So the roatation may look like.

PG: Walton 25-30/MAAR 15-10

SG: LeVert 30/Robinson 10

SF: Brown 20-25/Dawkins 20-25

PF: Irvin 25-30/Chatman 10/ Wagner 10

C: Doyle 20/Wilson10/Donnel 10

I know Chatman and Wagner can't play 20 minutes between themselves when its not there but depending on the night and the matchup thats what they might get. Who knows maybe wagner is too skinny and needs to redshirt.
