Don't you lie to me and tell me we can have nice things!
Apparently he really is a "nice thing":
"Now, having watched him practice, I love his competitiveness,” head coach Clay Helton told USC beat writers last month. “I love his coachability and the plays that he’s making on the field. You’re talking about a 330-pound man who you have to double-team. If you single him, it’s a hard day."

I’m sorry, at 6-2, 330 lbs, he has good what?
Umm, burst?
Good standing in the Clean Plate club?
But can he play corner?
On our defense this year, he's got a shot....
You might not need corners with him on the DL.
Only Press Coverage.
But can he get past the Knights of Neee, er, I mean the admissions department?
simple answer - YES.
USC only accepts smart kids or Aunt Becky's kids.
Winner
....but only if they are on the rowing team!
His application says he's a superb water polo player, so that should help grease the wheels with admissions.
And little girls who say they want to be on the rowing team...
He's only been at USC for one semester so he doesn't have many credits to transfer. And even if Michigan didn't accept any, it's not like simply starting at the proper time instead of early enrolling would affect his ability to stay on track to graduate.
If every transfer candidate came from schools like USC, we probably wouldn't even know that our admissions department could be such a problem.
Yes that is the problem, that must also explain how we got Charles Matthews in from academic powerhouse Kentucky. Or maybe, and just throwing it out there, this whole transfer thing is a complete load of shit because it impacts like 1% of potential transfers.
Anyways hope we get this guy, we need the interior help. Still won't have a good defense unless something magical happens at the DB level but who knows
It's more likely that Matthews was in that 1% transfer exception (who knows what the actual number is). He knew he'd have to sit out the transfer season anyway (due to an injury). He only had one year at UK, so there is a good chance many of his credits transferred to UM, assuming he was a good student. With his injury, he probably knew he'd be at UM for at least a couple years, so he would have up to 4 years to graduate, anyway. Most transfers don't happen that way. Unless you believe that UM coaches simply refuse to pursue good-to-great options in the transfer portal, it's reasonable to assume that there are oftentimes other issues, most likely academic, for athletes that would consider UM. The average potential transfer probably did enough to remain academically eligible at his previous school, and when most of these athletes have the goal to go to the NFL (or NBA) after 3, maybe 4 years and one or two of those years have already passed, putting in a transfer package to UM is probably not worth it. It's not that had for an athlete to get a credit evaluation from a prospective school. As they say, the exception proves the rule.
Does anyone know why he's leaving after one semester?
Position coach bailed.
Said he regretted never getting out to visit Nua at Michigan, but due to the pandemic he didn't really have a choice. Sounds like a kid who wanted to get out and venture the visit process but couldn't due to Covid.
If they bring a shrubbery. Obviously, one that looks nice but not too expensive though
If he can't get past the Knight Neeeee, he must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest...with a herring.
Let's start by saying "Ekky-ekky-ekky-ekky-z'Bang, zoom-Boing, z'nourrrwringnmmm"
With a shrubbery!
That reminds me, when was the last time we saw Ecky Ptang?
Stop, just stop. This thread is just too silly.
RIP G. Chapman
Only if Felicity Huffman is his mom.
Only if Felicity Huffman is his mom.
So why is he transfering?
Seems like a guy USC would want if you read from a Michigan's fans perspective. Anyone have perspective from USCs point of view?
It was mentioned his position coach left and he didn't like the replacement.
I think USC definitely wants him. He posted a statement yesterday saying he felt pressured to sign with USC because he wasn't able to take in person visits to Michigan, Utah, Miami etc...
Toia! Toia!
POSBANG!!!!!!!
Hail yea!
Is that the Home Alone kid?
That was quick.
Now if we can pull this off, it really makes DT look a lot less of a tire-fire concern for this year, and going forward. We still have Jeter who hasn't been good, but he is huge and maybe can have a Will Campbell late career emergence. You'd have to think one of Smith and Hinton are B1G starter material. Whittley is huge and Toia is young and has a lot of good measurables.
Let's hope the scheme change will help the CBs (although Green looked pretty good at times last season). Someone of Perry, Turner, or Grey has to prove to at least be competent this year, I would hope.
So if I understand this right, he's a freshman who enrolled early and has one semester under his belt. He hasn't played a snap for USC yet except in their Spring Game. But due to all the transfer changes (hard to keep track - free one due to covid? plus everyone now gets one free transfer?), he could play for Michigan this fall with freshman eligibility.
Do I have this right?
I believe that is correct, yes. Also, the NCAA ratified the one-time-transfer rule that states any player now can transfer one time and will not have to sit out a year so long as the admissions department permits it at his/her new school.
I'm not entirely sure that the rule kicks in this year, but I believe it does. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I just bought my seat cushions, hope I don’t have to sit on them all game and we have many touchdowns in the south end zone

We are basically trading Xavier Worthy's spot in the 2021 class with Jay Toia. In terms of positions of need, I think that's a win!
Another way to look at it, Giles Jackson (188#) + Xavier Worthy (160#) for Jay Toia (325#) + 1 open scholarship spot.
