Jay Harbaugh visits Travis Vuich, NR TE/WR

First post here, and haven't seen anything posted on this yet. Sorry for the lack of embeds, guys.

It seems that we're looking for a diamond in the rough:

Michigan coach Jay Harbaugh visited Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central 2015 WR Travis Vuich at school this morning. http://t.co/PZbAlW0oek

Jay Harbaugh visited Travis Vuich, a 6'4 190lb WR/TE class of 2015 out of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central, at school this morning.

Vuich doesn't have a profile pretty much anywhere...but I went to SMCC back in the day and watched him play alot this year. He has good length and body control with great hands. However, his speed is "meh" at best. He blocks well for his size, but at Michigan he wouldn't be able to push many bodies around at 190.

Hudl highlights:

His numbers don't jump out at you: 545 yards, 10 TDs, but a HUGE reason for that is that SMCC only passes maybe 10 times a game, and that's generous. The team won a state championship in Division 6, taking out Ithaca and ending their 69 game winning streak. Vuich was a big part of the offense in adding a much needed pass threat to a strong running team.

I'm interested to see if he gets a preferred walk-on spot or maybe even an offer. He could turn into a guy you throw the ball up to in the corner of the endzone due to his length and body control.

Again, sorry about no embeds, someone in the comments help a newbie out and embed for me?

I watched him in the state championship game when they beat Ithaca. He's not going to get an offer. Maybe a preferred walk-on spot. That's about it. I think Jay Harbaugh is probably just doing his due diligence and visiting some area schools in metro Detroit.

Thanks for the info...kinda seems like he wouldn't be a major target for us, but the way recruiting is breaking right now, we might have room for him on signing day. Or a preferred walk-on. Receiving corps needs help and competition.

Nope. I really don't think so. Michigan doesn't need to reach that far. There are a few guys within the state of Michigan who are committed elsewhere who would be in between those guys and Vuich.

I wouldn't mind if the coaches offered Bryce Witham, who just committed to Minnesota. I think he could help out as an Aaron Shea-type TE/H-back.

A little more info for clarity's sake:

Sometimes coaches come into schools randomly because they're recruiting the area. They sit down with that school's coach and say, "Do you think there's anyone who could play at our level?" The high school coach says yes/no/maybe. If there's a yes or a maybe, the college coach will say, "Well, can I talk to him?" or "Can you pull him out of class for me?" Or the coach will watch off-season workouts and pull a kid to the side at some point.

So just because he "visited so-and-so" doesn't mean that Jay Harbaugh specifically went to that school looking to offer that particular kid.

While what you've said is true, the head coach for SMCC, Jack Giarmo is retiring this year. So trying to foster a relationship with a coach that isn't going to be there next year seems relatively pointless. SMCC has never had any B1G caliber athletes in the past, so I think Jay went to SMCC for Vuich specifically.

Fellow SMCC grad here and I don't recall any player from the school getting a D1 scholarship since Nick Rafko went to Wisconsin in the early 90's. They had Neal Howey go the juco route then to EMU a few years back but that's about it. Maybe a walk on at Toledo or two over the years. They run the T offense and play subpar competition in the Huron League. It's a nice little program that has had lot's of success in Division 6; but rarely do they, or any other school in the league, have any legit talent capable of contributing at Michigan.

I can attest that SMCC & Monroe HS aren't really powerhouses but Monroe has sent 1-2 to Michigan over the years, along with guys that played sine in the NFL in Cole, LB to NCST & Carl Ford, WR Toledo grad, made Packers for a year or two. Also sent a family friend to Stanford, played his Senior year under Jim in his first there. As for Vuich, nothing amazing but it's football. The right scheme and coaching can do a lot. He'd be a REAL late offer if tons of spaces are open before NSD.

Fellow SMCC alumni checking in. What that kids lacks in athleticism (comparatively) he definitely makes up for in heart. It's extremely rare that a kid comes out of Coach Giarmo's program without a boatload of intangibles. I say throw him some type of offer. He'd be a great teammate.

My opinion is that since Reagan Williams said no that they may look for an HB or FB type that can catch the ball. Doesn't mean they will use a scholarship on him. The kid does look to have pretty good hands. May have wanted to see what he look like physically in person before taking the next step to maybe a walk-on spot. I understand the competition isn't great but he looks like a better player than everyone else seems to be saying to me.

Hudl profile says, that reliable? Seems fast. Seems 6"4". Anyone else see catch 1 of senior highlight? Hands look solid. I would like to see a few taller recievers again at Michigan. Kids 18, he can bulk up if he works harbaugh hard.
