Jags giving Denard the start against Browns
Jaguars RB Denard Robinson starting today vs. Cleveland.

It's about damn time they give him a chance.

I'm a Browns fan. The rush defense is suspect this year, so he could have some success. It will be nice to see him play.

You haven't watched the Jags, have you? Denard's talent is wasted on that team.

I also miss Shoelace. I have a feeling the Jags will get their first W today.

Denard taking the wheel. Nice

i started him on my fantasy team just because he is denard. i hope he goes off

Looking like a good decision now

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that.

If you look at the play-by-play, in the 1st quarter, Denard rushed at 8:34 for no gain. At 4:15 Denard rushed 43 yards from the QB position. That's the "look at that speed" play. It was not his "first play of his career", as the previous poster stated, but it was his first play at QB.

IIRC, he also started last week.
October 19th, 2014 at 12:17 PM ^
Pretty sure Storm started, but they split carries 20 for Storm 11 for Denard or something like that. I know I read that he was on the field for the most snaps of his career last week.
October 19th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
Denard started last week (against Tennessee) and a few weeks ago (against San Diego).

Really hope he does good. I always felt bad for him that he was on such a bad team. Wish he was still here.

to make Denard a pocket passer? It is mind numbing to recall team man-ball minimizing his talents. Not to mention Gardner's...I guess I just did.
Denard deserves a break, I hope he makes the most of it.

I feel sad for those two guys. They will have left Michigan just in time to see us revert back to an offense that could take proper advantage of their skills when a new coach comes in.
October 19th, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
I really feel sorry for Devin. He has the skills to be a great receiver if he had been at that position all along. But that's about it. He doesnt have the variable skillset that Denard has. Devin will not be a QB in the NFL. I have no idea what he will be, if anything.
October 19th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
Why did the NFL not try to make Denard a pocket passer?Maybe because he had a nerve injury that ended his career as a QB? You can certainly argue that this staff has not used Gardner correctly, but I don't think it's really fair to say the same about Denard. Borges adapted things quite a bit for him and he was productive here. Maybe a little less productive than in 2010 but still, he had a 1,000 rush/2,000 pass season in 2011 and probably would have again in '12 if healthy. And we went 16-4 when he started and was healthy enough to finish.
October 19th, 2014 at 5:32 PM ^
even in perfect health? Nope. That was my point. And Borges may have adapted a little, but Denard, the most dynamic player I can think of ever playng offense at Michigan, was already there and wildly productive. Borges really needed to not change hardly anything at all with Denard. Borges / Denard was < RRod / Denard.
The only reason I even brought this up is that there has been a recurring theme at M for several years now whereby the coaches take naturally gifted talent and try to mold it to their ideological thinking rather than just maximizing it as it is. Hence the sarcasm about Denard, who had an outstanding day running the ball today.

So is Michigan elite again? I learned this year that that's the mark of a newly ELITE program, when your former QBs start backing into starting roles in the League. Especially when the current coach only recruited one of them.
October 19th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
Forgive us for being excited for a player who gave his all for Michigan during his carreer here...

I think the satire was missed, and I'll admit I didn't do a great job with it. I'm thrilled for Denard! I was remarking on the "ZOMG WE R TEH ELITE! STARTERZ!" hysteria from EL over three scrubs getting to start at QB either because the real starters are hurt (in the case of Stanton and Cousins) or they play for a shitty team with a spoiled brat draft pick who will eventually overtake (Hoyer). And of course their pathetic attempt to try to claim Foles.
October 19th, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
Yup, I totally missed that connection. I also find that line of thinking out of East Lansing insufferable.

I particularly miss "finding a gap" looking more or less like this....

3 carries for 18 yards so far. Hitting the hole with authority.
October 19th, 2014 at 1:19 PM ^
He's down now. Took a pretty hard shot from Whitmer on a crossing route. Bortles pass left his totally exposed.
Whoops - wrong Robinson. Allen, not Denard.
