We have an interminable 23 more days until the CFP and it's a good time to air the grievances.  A lot of hand-wringing this past week about TCU, can we beat UGA, and what if there's a re-match with ohio?  Get a hold of yourselves!   Injuries, transfers, disaster, oh my, the sky is falling!

And these threads, what's with some of these threads (including maybe this one....)?  Have you collectively lost your cotton-pickin' minds?   The poor mods have to baby-sit all day.  robf mercifully locked the Griner thread.  Enough with the threads from hades.

So, air those grievances, get 'em off your chest, and let's hear them.  Either that, or you must perform a feat of strength.  Now get to work.

Ok.  OP, you are a guy that lives on a farm in Michigan.  Where did the 'mates' thing originate?  Also, do you say other weird things like 'melk' and 'pop'?  Only grievance I have at the moment.

Born in Jersey (it's soda, not pop), raised in Michigan (it's melk, not milk), live in Maryland.

Still can't get over my Marylander wife saying "mere" instead of "mirror."

But I gladly adopted the second-person plural "y'all" as a far superior conjugation of the English language.

Now let the Festivus airing of grievances continue!

That reminds me of a weirdly-pronounced word I've never heard outside of my immediate family:

"Eingins", as in "don't forget some chopped eingins for the chili dogs.

Other than Dad always pronouncing onions like that (and a couple of my siblings still do), I have no clue the origins of that version.  Since his dad (my grandpa) was born in and later emigrated from Poland, my only guess is that's how onions are pronounced in the old country.

mates is really my quick short hand on 'listmates' or 'blogmates' which seem unfriendly and standoffish, and better than 'friends' or 'buddies', or something like that.   besides, i went to austrailia years ago so i can say 'mates'.  

melk is a no-go, especially on a farm that has been in 'milk', as the term goes.  pop is correct usage.  

if you still have objections you must overcome them with a feat of strength.

EDIT:  incidentally, LSA 01, your avatar is no bueno.  get a new one.

Don’t be that person in an injury thread that brings up HIPAA and implications related to discussing said injury, getting info, news, etc.  We all know we’re not entitled to details of an injury, but we all want to know anyways.  This will not change.  Nobody thinks you’re smart or deep or highly intellectual for injecting HIPAA into the conversation.
