This is a weak argument. Lets not make Michigan's schedule look like we are playing the Avengers and Thanos every week. We have been curb stomped by our elite opponents almost ever year, sans 2016. ND almost always has an elite team equal to OSU on their schedule ever year (Clemson, Georgia for the past few years). Fact is ND has made the playoffs twice and is looking like they will do it for a 3rd year. That Clemson win is legit and that team, without Lawrence, would destroy every big ten team this year, that's how loaded they are.
Stop over-rating Michigan and our schedule. Its not great and we don't beat these supposed great teams anyways. ND is a better program as it current stands. That's not really debatable.

It wants to be Alabama.
Who is it? The fans want to be Alabama / Ohio State. I feel pretty confident in saying that the people who make the decisions (athletic department / institution as a whole) do not. Hence the Michigan man requirements.

Not saying you don't have a point, but something about the dynamic with the football program must be different. The basketball, hockey, baseball, softball, and women's basketball programs have all been national contenders or trending in that direction over the last 5-10 years.
What's different about the football program that causes it constantly stagnate if not completely backslide?

I agree. It does get in the way. Everyone thought Meyer should have taken the ND job over Florida because ND was “historically better.” Urban knew he wasn’t winning multiple titles ND, regardless of history. And half of think we’re entitled to be better because of our history, and the other half seems perfectly content that we’re not. Lose-lose.

Love the logic that because RR didn't work out here 12 years ago Campbell wouldn't work out either. What kind of thought is that?
November 27th, 2020 at 5:06 PM ^
That’s the Michigan fanbase talk. It’s hysterical
November 27th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
He’s not going to be available after this year, it imperative Michigan make the move on Harbaugh this year while a great candidate is available.

I have to admit, I was on the Brent Veneables train a couple weeks ago, but after digging around and realizing that he wouldn't be a good fit for the program and researching/watching ISU, I'm all for Matt Campbell becoming our next coach. What he's done at *ISU* is incredible.

I would like to avoid the coach who lost by double digits to Louisiana Lafayette THIS YEAR
November 27th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
Yep, instead they should get the guy that beat Oklahoma and Texas.
November 28th, 2020 at 1:33 AM ^
It can be argued that Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley both fit that description this year.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
You'd rather roll with the guy who lost to a MSU team that is far worse than Louisiana?
November 27th, 2020 at 7:08 PM ^
I watched that entire game and let me tell you what Matt Campbell did in that game I've never seen before. With roughly 7 minutes left, Iowa State down 10 they went for it on 4th down and missed. Lafayette proceeded to go on a 7 minute drive to score with a few seconds left. Iowa State never used their timeouts, never tried to create something with coaching. He basically let his team eat the shit game they played. My guess is they took Lafayette lightly, didn't practice well, etc. He made them absolutely pay for it with a loss, not caring what it meant for his reputation.
You know what that's called--CULTURE!! He develops a culture and a system and holds his players accountable to it.
November 28th, 2020 at 12:35 AM ^
Wait, so they lost to an inferior team because the coach didn’t use any of his timeouts and didn’t adjust his gameplan? That sounds exactly like what everyone is mad at Harbaugh for
November 28th, 2020 at 1:37 AM ^
But Campbell is the new and trendy name that's hot just now - which is always the better option than whoever the current head coach is. Always... never fail.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:05 PM ^
I think the best thing about Campbell is that he develops the guys that he does get and establishes a winning culture at his program. Matt Campbell is a very good at developing guys. Brock Purdy and Breece Hall (four star back that was like the 22nd best rated back according to 247) weren't major recruits, but Campbell has developed Hall into a good NFL caliber back and Purdy has done decently at ISU.

Ok I’m on the Matt Campbell train.
November 27th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
As others have noted the biggest issue isn’t the head coach. I have zero doubt that Campbell would fail at Michigan but be successful at any other college job.
November 27th, 2020 at 9:30 PM ^
Then what is the issue? As others have pointed out, other sports are doing well during the same time period, sometimes spectacularly so. They all report to the same AD.

I met the guy way back when. He was the OL coach at Bowling Green. Just by talking to him, I could tell he would be an awesome recruiter. He has a passion to the game and is an excellent communicator. When Gregg Brandon was fired from Bowling Green in 2008, Campbell went up I-75 a few miles to Toledo. BG fans felt rightly so that not retaining Campbell was a huge mistake.
November 27th, 2020 at 9:34 PM ^
OC? Why would he leave a head job with security for OC here? He'd be a nice head coach candidate. I'd prefer Cristobal but Campbell would be up there.
November 27th, 2020 at 11:31 PM ^
So Texas is a Juggernaut now? This is hilarious. Look at their record under their present coach. So now this is a National Championship game? Wow.
November 28th, 2020 at 1:20 PM ^
Yes, but is there any chance of any interest on his end?
November 28th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Love the hope, but a coach who is pulling a total of four 4-stars would be a disaster in Ann Arbor.
Also, a perennial 7-5 coach in the Big 12 isn’t beating OSU.
Not who we need.
