Iowa offensive futility in one tweet

Shehan Jeyarajah tweeted the following.  (Not a Twitter user, but I found this particular one fascinating, and near-impossible.)  Referencing the Hawkeye game with Illinois that they lost 9-6.  But Ferentz says there is no possibility of making a coaching change/firing his son midseason.

So if I understand right, Iowa just... -Punted from their own 16 -Recovered a muff at the Illinois 35 -Went 3 plays for -6 yards and punted -Forced a fumble and recovered at the 5 -Went 4 plays for -4 yards -Kicked a field goal A 15-play, -10-yard, 76 punt yard field goal drive.

Yzerman proved himself down in Tampa and he made some great moves over the summer.  Love the Uncle Fester hire so far.  Makes me think he was Yzerman's guy all along and was just waiting for Tampa's Cup run to be over.

You're right in that their young talent is still pretty raw.  They're probably 2-3 years away before they can ice a team that can make a deep run into the playoffs (Conference Finals).  They finally have enough talent to make the playoffs but the Eastern Conference is tough.

Regardless, with Stevie Y's moves this summer, our roster is pretty solid.  We should have some great competitive hockey to watch in Detroit this year...for a change.

Staggering that Ferentz the Younger is so utterly incompetent.  Even a blind squirrel, as they say.  More staggering that Ferentz the Elder is so entrenched that no one seems to be able to get this kid moved on to something he's got a better chance at doing decently.  If they are even a middling offensive team (say in the 60s or 70s), they win the B10 West pulling away.  Hell, they did it last year with a 110-ish offense.

I don't see what the problem is. Don't forget that after Lloyd Carr retired Kirk Ferentz could have been coach at Michigan!

(Ferentz is a good coach in many ways, but along with Franklin he's one of the most frustrating coaches in the B1G in the last thirty years or so. I'd rather have him than Franklin, though.)

TL;DW Harbaugh = only points matter. He is a focused winner. Day, everything because we have the athletes to do it all and doing everything is easy because I inherited a behemoth. Half of the big ten says time of possession. Iowa, offensive yards. Tucker stumbles into an answer of defensive passing yards. Franklin must have a ton of penalties in his life.

Brian Ferentz is the most incompetent coordinator in America. On top of that, remember Iowa's racism scandal that got their strength coach (correctly) fired? Ferentz was implicated just as heavily in that, but faced no repercussions. Not even bullshit diversity training or anything.

So not only is he horrifically incompetent and a nepotism hire, he's also an asshole.

His Wikipedia page is a rough read.  Dude makes $900K annually, which is not top dollar for offensive coordinators, but I bet he's the best paid of the 90-115th ranked offenses by a country mile.  Also, some sketchy stuff from when he was in college, and frank concessions that he was awful at coaching running backs and quarterbacks.  So, naturally, make him the OC.

Also, this "complementary football" thing is just rot.  "No, no -- we're trying to suck on offense.  Really helps out our defense."  You know what else helps your defense?  Scoring -- you should try it sometime.
