Hunter Dickinson 2nd Team All-American (AP)
Congrats to him. Hopefully this helps him get his mojo back a bit. Hasn't been quite so automatic in the paint during this rough stretch and we're going to need him at peak performance demanding double teams with Livers out.

Just 2nd team?
Travesty.
but #1 in our hearts. . .
The real All Americans are the friends that Hunter made along the way.
Great response. Genuinely funny.
One week to refocus our offense on hunter. He was the key to our dominance early on this year.
I'd say he's been the key to the whole year. More than any other player, anyway ...
All five starters made great contributions and they played well together. As a thought exercise, try subtracting each and replacing them with someone on the bench. I think the team without Dickinson wins the least amount of games.
Franz and Livers both honorable mentions, nice
Theoretical 2nd team has Kofi, Dickinson, Timme, and Mobley. Zero points allowed in the paint.
The opponents would stop approximately zero post possessions from scoring...
That's pretty wild. I see they ducked the Kofi v. Dickinson debate by putting both on the 2nd team. Which one is in the 4-spot? Hunter is a better shooter (out to, what, 15 feet?) and certainly has a better assist rate, but Kofi is the scariest big man in the paint.
Wonder when the last year was when, like this year, the AP All-America teams, including Honorable Mentions, did not include a single player from Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina or Syracuse.
If Hunter has a great tourney he could be gone. If somewhat subdued like his last half-dozen or so games, he will return.
He's not going anywhere. Name one starting center in the NBA who can't space the floor vertically or laterally.
Who said anything about starting.
There is almost no scenario that realistically comes to pass where HD goes pro after this year. He’s much more of an old style 5 and unless his shooting and/or mobility take a significant jump he would be well advised to stay in AA for at least another year of JH’s tutoring.
Unless he decides getting g league or euro money is more interesting than college he isn’t going anywhere
My money says that both Dickinson and Cockburn would out play either Timme or Garza. We've already seen Dickinson outplay Garza like he's some second rate schmuck. Hell, he took Kofi straight up to a draw. Timme is a stick compared to them! I'll take HD & Kofi in that game all day long...
Uh I think it's very generous to say he took Kofi to a draw, Hunter played terribly in that game offensively
However, Dickinson did destroy Garza and hell, Teske dominated Timme last year
The great majority of Kofi’s points came against Davis. He did draw a few fouls on HD, though. Maybe saying a draw is generous to HD, but he played him pretty damn well...
That's great! Congratulations to him, to Coach Howard, and to the team.
While I love me some Hunter, he isn't even the best player on Michigan. Not even particularly close.
Who is your #1?
The one who'll be drafter in the first 15 and is the best defensive player on the team.
Seriously? Please see my other post here.
Lets hope he's playing his best ball when its time to dance.
GHOST OF MITCH MCGARY 2013 RUN, POSSESS HIM
just up to the smoking too much weed part...
I think it may be more "hitting the Freshman wall" than "losing his mojo" at this point. Shorter season than normal this year but a lot of games close together and a lot more minutes for Hunter than most would have projected pre-season.
I am hopeful the 6 days between games helps him rest and recharge to get back to his early season levels.
I am guessing a lot of angry Illini comments for a headline that ignores their 1st and 2nd team All Americans and just credits Baylor as dominating with 1st and 3rd team players.
I hope we have a succession plan for after he leaves because we are getting spoiled a bit.
Don't think that Coach Howard has anyone 7' or taller committed yet for 2022, but Moussa Diabate at 6'10" ain't a bad replacement -- and he's versatile.
But...I do think Hunter returns next season. That's just my gut feeling.
Dickinson teamed with Diabate and Houstan is gonna be fun to watch!
Not that anyone cares, but this is a terrible headline. Gonzaga, yes, but Baylor? They have a first and a third teamer, and one honorable mention among a laundry list of guys (that include Livers and Wagner). Illinois has a first and a second teamer. I just don't see how anyone can reasonably say that the AP teams are "dominated" by Baylor in any way other than clickbait. Illini fans probably apoplectic about this, given how sensitive they clearly are over titles.
