How did 2018 Purdue beat Ohio State and should this game concern MI

Submitted by RealElonMusk on December 2nd, 2022 at 5:15 PM

Purdue is completely different team but coaching decisions are likely similar.  Purdue was aggressive on 4th down and mixed in runs effectively once they had a lead.

TLDR:  Ohio State made tons of errors & missed all of their deep pass attempts (1 for 12)  Roland Moore had many key catches and runs

Big Plays:

OSU misses FG attempt from 17

OSU turns ball over on downs 1 series later on the Purdue 2 yard line

OSU roughs punter-   instead of a punt Purdue scores 7

Purdue fakes a field goal, holder runs for first down Purdue scores 7 instead of 3

OSU stops Purdue, late hit on QB turns 4th down on Purdue 25 to 1st down at 40  Purdue gets TD

Purdue has 2 rushing touchdowns in 2nd half  that reminded me of a recent OSU game

OSU tries onside kick, Purdue recovers

Haskins throw 5 ft behind his receiver for a pick 6

But looking at the play by play, it's amazing that OSU scored only 3 in the first half and only 6 through 3 quarters. They definitely moved the ball and hand no turnovers at that point. Must have just kept shooting themselves in the foot. And then add a potent offense/WR on the other wide, Purdue was ripe to take advantage of it.

Michigan doesn't have OSU's soft ass defense (some of the worst tackle "attempts" I've ever seen) and this is not a black out night game at Ross-Ade Stadium where a dying Purdue fan is in attendance.

So, no.

Unrelated, but that Larry Prout is a great kid. Really had the feels reading his tweet to Blake Corum...

I wish I could play football but I can't. But I'm really good at having surgeries. Remember to breath slow-stay calm-hold still & always say thank you to the nurses. If they can't get your IV in after 3 tries tell them you want someone else. You will be Ok Blake!Your friend Larry pic.twitter.com/pAQ2oU5z9r

they will be aggressive with 4th downs, and we have to make them pay. Minter's defense is disciplined and will be well prepared. Wish our RB room is a bit deeper, and JJ probably will need to win this one with his legs

Randall Moore totally went off in that game.  That, and I believe that was the game dedicated to the student leader that was stricken qith cancer

No worries. Michigan has been dialed in all season (the Illinois resting-everybody game aside). Fear/paranoia level is about a 1 for tomorrow night.

This is the Tyler Trent Game.

Purdue wasn't playing OSU that day.  They were also playing Cancer.

Purdue Kicked cancers ass that day.

Purdue has been beating OSU for years. I think it's mental. Five wins and an OT loss this milliennium.

That said, it's also partly because they generally play a different brand of ball than most of the Big Ten. It's enough reason to not overlook them and in a sense makes me all the more confident.

Purdue cannot win unless Michigan makes several costly errors. Do not make costly errors and you will win. Probably the nicest possible route you will ever have for a big ten title

I mean we should expect the kitchen sink.  We should expect aggressive play calls as they know they are the less talented team and the underdog.  Some of it may work, some won't.  Michigan will win the game.

Also have to remember that the Purdue game was in the middle of OSUs season.  Almost certainly took them lightly and were not prepared when they got punched in the mouth.  I don't think Michigan is taking this game lightly simply because its the Big Ten Championship game and a win could be the difference between playing TCU and playing Georgia in the CFP semis

Part of it is Big Ten West Chaos, and part of it is an annual tradition at Ohio State where they magically forget how to play football one game a year.

The game was already over (42-20) with 2 minutes left in the game when they had the pick six. Don’t make it sound like osu should have won this game except for a couple bad plays. They got blown out!

Jim Harbaugh is a better football coach than Ryan Day orUrban Meyer.  Meyer recruited at an unprecedented level that is the difference in those games.

Besides Rondale Moore having a Heisman type game, I remember that Purdue had a linebacker (I think it was a linebacker) from Ohio who played the best game of his career that night.

This game was easy.. purdue was at home.  It's literally the only place they can beat ranked teams.

It was a night game

It was dedicated to that purdue kid that had cancer before the game.  Players were motivated.

Osu couldn't score in the redzone
