How about showing some support????

Submitted by hazardc on

Could some of you stop acting like everything is a total wash and acting like the season is actually f'n over?

This defense just held a team to -8 yards rushing.

How about Smith getting 18 caries for 121 yards (6.7avg)

Yes, the offensive performance as a whole was pretty terrible. DG was at his worst.

Do you remember what he did last year? He's broken, He is now getting some recovery time. How about we hope that he DOES get that recovery in just for HIS sake?  It's not his fault he's more banged up than any QB I've ever seen, and still manages to go out on the field so you can bitch about him.

I think there has been improvement, and we just have a QB that needs to have time to repair... Never count him out, especially after last year. We owe it to this team to support them the last two games instead of mocking which bowl game they may go to.

With the hits he has taken and what he's been through, i'm sick of hearing about it. Devin has shown he has the ability to make magic happen, that he has the heart to make it happen, and goddammit I am sick of not hearing about any GLIMMER of fucking hope that we could be the absolute spoiler to their season.

It was down to one play... Don't you think this kid wants payback? Don't you have a little bit of faith in this defense to be prepared for what is the most important game of their last year (This game is more improtant than any bowl we could end up in)

We're going to go through a coaching change, we aren't going to win any championships, but imagine any other QB dealing with the pressure DG has dealt with. I'll tell you what it looks like. (See: Shane Morris)

How do you know this?  Can you link one post where someone indicated they want us to lose just so Hoke loses his job?  Especially since even if we win, Hoke is gone?  Hoke's job this year has been so brutally awful that even a win vs Ohio won't save his job.  He is gone.

We have a good defense and a terrible offense.  The problems with the offense are numerous.  Our skill position players are slow and lack the explosiveness of teams like OSU.  Many of the skill position players we do have are banged up (Green, Funchess, Norfleet, Harris) or ineligible this year (Isaac).  Our quarterbacks are a disaster.  The scheme doesn't make up for any of these faults with its creativity.  And surprisingly, our OL is only about fifth on the list of problems (which points to both progress in the OL and the disaster that is the rest of the offense).

The defense, on the other hand, is really good.  I think we're a healthy Jabrill Peppers and a non-regressing Blake Countess away from this being an excellent Michigan defense.  A lot of people are claiming that this coaching staff hasn't developed anyone, but that's clearly not true for our front seven.  They've been very, very good, and that's with our star players being a bunch of lightly recruited guys who have done extremely well here (Ryan, Clark, Henry, Glasgow, etc.).

Honestly, our team isn't the disaster that some are making it out to be, which is a really good thing for the future.  We're enough of a disaster - and the coaching is enough to blame - that we need a coaching change, but the new staff will have something to work with.

No doubt that wasn't our defense's best showing, but to be fair, there's a Shane Morris pick-6 in there, and Minnesota started four drives in Michigan territory in the second half.  That "30" was as much because of the offense as it was because of the defense.  Our offense went three-and-out or worse (INT/fumble before getting a first down) on 8 of its 12 drives.  That's awful.

Rutgers?

Anyway, MSU and Notre Dame destroyed us.

They played pretty well against Utah, but Utah led by 10 points from the beginning of the third quarter on and didn't really have to do much after that.

This would be a fine defense is our offense was at least average, but they aren't. Anyway, they should be better than they've been considering the make-up of the two deep.

Would you believe me if i told you we had more total yards than notre dame?

Would you believe me if i told you even as bad as things have been with devin, he's still completling 61% this year..... as TERRIBLE as it has been as of late?

He improves, the whole team will. We had the run going decent today, but DG needs rest more than anything right now.. Is it so bad to hope that he recovers a little mor ethan he's been able to all season...for his last two games?

I see you are one who uses stats like a drunk uses a lamppost... to lean on instead of for illumination...

Would you believe me that we were down 21-0 at halftime to ND and at that point they had gained twice as many yards as we had?   And we had no turnovers at the half?

Devin may be completing 61% of his passes for a whopping 6.8 YPA.  Its pretty easy to complete a high percentage when half your passes are WR screens.

Um

When we played Minnesota, they may have won 30-15, but just look at where they got the ball at on their drives.... and they are the 27th ranked rushing attack in the country

They are also the 24th ranked defense.

Did i mention that they are a two loss team right now... and that game was the collosal f up that was brandon's last straw?

I don't think it proves or disproves anything except that our team would be WAY better if our QB was healthy... and that minnesota might be an alright team this year. One of their losses is to a playoff team. Take it for what it's worth.

Yeah, it was really mean of the Random Number Generating Field Position Fairies to give Minnesota such good field position.

And I'm sure I read this wrong. Because I'm sure you aren't defending losing 30-14 (and getting outgained 373-171) to a team that lost to ILLINOIS as not that bad.

Not sure if serious....  You do realize the offensive product MIchigan is fielding is closer to high school level than to Division 1 don't you?  This offense would be the worst offense in the MAC conference, and you're coming up with excuses for DG?  Bro, the schemes are horrible, the coaching is horrible, and even if DG were Tom Brady this offense would struggle.  It's over man... basketball season is upon us.

Gardner was not the QB because our incompetent coach decided to bench him in favor of Morris.  The same Morris who was clearly ill-prepared and ineffective for the entire game.  The same Morris who should not have started the 2nd half because he was in way over his head.  The same Morris who was fucking destroyed and could barely move yet our incompetent coach kept trotting him out there.   The same Morris who was blatantly concussed and yet our incompetent coach didn't even realize it.  Not during the game, not after the game.

DB brutally mishandled it in the aftermath but it was 100% Hoke's causing.

The same could be said for State's defense, and everyone talks about them like they're an NFL caliber D. They gave up 49 to Ohio, 46 to Oregon, and 31 to Purdue (although some of those points were against the offense).

Our defense may not be the best in the nation, but it's solid and good enough to have put us in the running for the conference championship if our offense had been able to deliver.

But their is narrative being pushed by certain people out there that if Hoke was to finish strong down the stretch, he could return. I don't agree with that and feel Hoke is gone regardless, but when the Sam Webb's of the world are pushing this, it makes people nervous at the utter thought of their being any scenario where Hoke would return. This is why you have a lot of fans hoping for losses down the stretch even if it means the players losing just to make sure Hoke doesn't stand a chance. That's pretty strong, but I understand it completely.

At this point, keeping Hoke would pretty much 86 the program.  Whether you dislike him or not,  he is completely damaged goods.  No one is going to come play for him.

So when people "in the know" are floating rumors that he can save his job (and thus, pretty much tank the program) by winning out, yeah, there are going to be a certain number of people that root against that.

Does that suck?  Yep, sure does.  Doesn't mean anyone hates the players or wants them to fail any more.   But people get scared that things will be even worse in the future than they already are.

my love for DG and his story and my hatred for what they have done to him with their dithering and their manball. My respect and admiration for all the kids and the craptastic way their elders sometimes have them playing. My fervent desire that Hoke is sent packing as DB was--nay, the wild insanity I will feel if he is retained--and my desire to see the team shine. The need for it to be clear beyond any doubt that Hoke must go and the need to win.

Sorry if we're just a little manic around here these days.

but it is the past 4 seasons (as a whole) that people are pissed at.  It isn't any of the players, some have or are going to leave a wonderful memory to the Michigan fanbase, (See:  Denard Robinson, Jake M.F. Ryan, Jordan Kovacs...some of my favorites), but the state of the program right now.  That's what we're mad at.  Its impossible to point at one thing that's gotten us here, its several things, things that we are out of our control as fans.  We're frustrated.   My advice, keep supporting like we all plan to...and let folks feel frustrated.  There's a downside to the support we provide this university and our deep love for its sports programs...and we're experiencing that right now.

You mean the 2011 11-2 BCS Sugar Bowl Championship season, and the following 2012 season that saw us go 8-5 with losses to the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 25th (final rankings) ranked teams in the country? Obviously the past two are not what we hoped for, and it would have been nice had some of those games in 2012 gone our way but was no reason to be pissed (other than Bellomy). So really it is the past two years.

This Ohio State team had to go to OT with Penn State.....  That's one of the teams we got a W with this year, and our matchups look sort of similar.... better if this extra break helps DG recover

Quit acting like they're untouchable.......    Yeah, they beat sparty... so did oregon... who got walked all over by arizona two years in a row....

This was the same talk as last year, nobody was giving us a chance..... and we lost.

.....but that was one HELL of a game.

I actually feel sorry for DG. Not just the coaching change, OC and QB coaches changing, position changes, but being a talented 5* QB coming in and being reduced to what he is now. If you look at those last 5 games of 2012 against Minny, NW, Iowa, OhioSt, and SC, he looked great throwing and running the ball. Games last year under Borges against ND, IU, and OhioSt, he set records that might not be touched for a long time. His deterioration under Hoke has been a tragic story and he deserved better. This guy has been beaten, battered, and mismanaged beyond repair. I get angry when I think of what he could've been if used correctly instead of Hoke's archaic, manball philosophy. I now wonder was Hoke forcing Borges to run up our Oline's ass because we're now doing the same with Nuss and the offense as a whole is 10 times worse than the bs we seen last year. I cringe now when I watch DG drop back. I hate to see him go out like this, but I feel a little better knowing that he has some great degrees to fall back on if he can't find a role on a NFL team. I know he'll be successful in life regardless.
