Hoops Hello: 24 PG Durral Phat Phat Brooks
Second commit for the 24 class. Not a shooter, but a quick and long guard that likes to get to the rim. Top instate player for 2024.
Whether or not he becomes a star, I see a Phat Phat jersey in my future.
Phabulous!
Phuck yeah!!!
Me?
you?
everybody!
Phantastic!! He's the Phuture!!
Sounds like a leader and a nice complement to Christian Anderson.
Excited both for the player and the nickname.
Prince Paul needs a haircut
Mase needs a haircut
Davis needs a haircut
Trugoy would you please give us a haircut?
That kid has been a baller since he was 6 years old.
3 feet high and rising!
There are not enough De La Soul references

The sad thing is this means that Anderson is probably not going to be a part of this class.
MattD woulda hated this take under Beilein, but probably loves it under Howard.
I don’t think it is indicative of Anderson’s standing. Love and Llewelyn will move on after this season (unless they want to be super seniors). Same for RayJ Dennis if he comes to Michigan. Plus, Anderson and Brooks are not similar players at all.
We can only hope Anderson moves on. Still can’t believe that kid was ever a take.
Pretty sure Matt isn’t very high on Brooks.
Wuddup Maizen?
Yeah nope just a guy who knows hoops and specifically recognizing talent. Anderson ain’t it. He will struggle to get his shot off at a power 5 school. He also isn’t very quick or shifty. He didn’t grow into what that staff thought he would when they took his commitment.
Brooks is an upgrade and hopefully helps Acuff the best player in the state regardless of class
Bud you don't know a hole from you butt I bet? I guarantee you dont know anything about basketball or sports.
An illuminating article on self-proclaimed experts...
This commitment has nothing to do with Anderson pretty sure we are going to run more 3 guard lineups.
It’s been rumored for awhile Anderson is gone
Can’t slide Anderson over to the 2 because of lack of size and Brooks is a 1. Anderson doesn’t fit.
We played Mike Smith and Eli together quite a bit. Jones and Eli together a ton. Brooks has a 6’6” wingspan, so length could help him guard 2s.
College isn’t the NBA. Can get away with less size quite a bit. Depends on the quality of players, obviously.
Since when the latest article was on him transferring to Oak Hill and how much the Michigan offer meant and JH believing in him. He is around 6 foot now and he still has growing to do according to his doctors. So don't know where your information is from but please divulge as I haven't seen anything. Many teams play with 2 point guards so it still doesn't explain why you can't have them both playing at the same time. pure height isn't the only indicator of positioning if Brooks has a wingspan of 6 foot 6 or 7 it makes up for him being 6 foot 2 and who he can guard. Also Anderson is the best shooter in his class and makes NBA 3 pointers in games at a consistent rate .
Anderson still be in the class . Tim McCormick says he loves Michigan’s coaches and always talking about his excitement to come here . Kid is starting to grow and can absolutely shoot the rock from deep
Yeah - I don't understand the Maizen stand-ins in this thread.
I always thought Anderson was projected as a scorer / two guard by Michigan. The issue is that he remains in a PG-sized body to date.
Is there any reason Brooks couldn't guard 2s and play point if paired with Anderson since he is "long"? (And yes I realize having a 6'4"+ SG is ideal)
--PS - Welcome Phat!!
Phat Phat Brooks is the best example of athletic epizeuxis since Bam Bam Meulens.
Upvoted for use of epizu..., uh, epezi..., epuzei.... Ah, forget it.
I have seen him shoot very well live . Reminds me of MAAR taking in to the rack
Did you say long? That's how we like it.

basketball star ratings are wild. as a compotise 4* I watched the highlights on youtube and looked for entire game videos and never saw him use his left hand once. he drives left but takes some contorted right reverse handed layup. that wont work in D1 basketball. its something he can learn and work on, but he will definitely be a project player.
looks to have high IQ and plays tough. slow developing shot from the outside. looks to have a good mid range pull up and a relatively quick first step and can play through contact. will be interesting to see how he develops.
My dude, in the year 2023, no one cares what hand you are finishing with at the rim.
I see you didn't watch Kobe Bufkin this year
Hunter and Xavier never developed a left hand either.
Pretty sure Hunter is left handed
Hah, woops, I should have said 'off-hand.' My point is that lots of players dont develop their off-hand and plenty of them are still good.
Seems like a pretty solid get. I'm glad they're taking multiple guards. He seems like a limited athlete, but can pair with Anderson since they have contrasting styles.
Does two limited guards equal one unlimited guard?
The Voltron approach.
Always like getting the top guy out of MI, welcome aboard. Maybe by the ranking this is a guy that will actually stick around for a few years? One can hope. Ideally he will develop as a shooter over time. But side note, the staffs continued insistence on not prioritizing shooting in recruiting (for the most part) will never make sense to me
You know Anderson is the best shooter in his class and was why Juwan recruited him in the first place
Curious that it's been nearly 24 hours now and the front page has yet to acknowledge this commitment.
I get that football is king but isn't it kind of weird that it's been 24 hours since Brooks committed and there's not a peep from the front page?
really hyped for this dude, hope he plays above his ranking
