Hoke has reached out to UCLA OC Noel Mazzone
I know this could go in the Borges is out thread, but I figured itd get lost in the pile of comments. According to Steve Lorenz at 247, Coach Hoke has reached out to Noel Mazzone who is currently UCLA's OC. I think this would be a great hire.

Hey now, maybe

Brett Hundley turned into a pretty damn good QB under him.

He proved himself the past with a young offensive line, so that will be a positive going into next year. If this happens that is.

Reaching out is only important if there is interest on the other end. Do they know each other?

was actually barely slightly better than Michigan in negative yardage plays. Ranked like #112 or something.
They had a functional running game a better QB that was the only difference.

Michigan finished 115th in the nation in rushing at 3.28 YPC. UCLA finished 50th at 4.52 YPC with a line similar to ours (2 upperclassmen, 3 underclassmen).
January 8th, 2014 at 5:45 PM ^
exactly. i watched the UCLA line give up 30 sacks to Arizona State.

Why can't Michigan keep anything secret for more than a couple hours?

I'd like to think it's because we have an awfully good, well-connected blogosphere. MGoBlog has press credentials. Isn't that rare for a blog?
Obviously annoying for the AD, good for us(?)

He was an absolute disaster at NC State. They called him "No Endzone."
January 8th, 2014 at 5:34 PM ^
On first glance, interesting to see which is more true. Does he suck or does NC State just have no talent? Is he great or is Brett Hundley just helping him out a lot?
January 8th, 2014 at 5:37 PM ^
to be able to do a lot (or ok) with a little
January 8th, 2014 at 5:51 PM ^
Borges was an OC who needed all his pieces to make it work. A great offensive mind can do a lot with a little (Rich Rod, Malzahn, every Urban Meyer team, Briles, Sumlin, etc.)
January 8th, 2014 at 7:02 PM ^
his QB was an NFL bound Phillip Rivers, so...

of the digs about Borges is that he didn't stay in one spot long enough to have a program track record?
January 8th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Not sure I'd like this. He hasn't spent more than three seasons anywhere since '95-'98 at Ole Miss.
January 8th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Why do you think this would be a great hire? Besides his past two seasons at UCLA, Mazzone has been fired at every stop after 2-3 years. His resume reminds me a lot of Borges...
I'd be more interested in Mike Norvell from ASU than Mazzone.

Brian Griese. He has a bright future in coaching if he has the desire.

2012 had similar numbers.

Coincidentally, Mazzone served as Tuberville's OC at Auburn for a time, just like Borges.

He would have been a great guy to hire three years ago. Gotta love that lining up in the I and running ISO against Iowa was building to absolutely fucking nothing.
