*****TomVH EDIT******: I confirmed with Tom he did in fact commit. Tim is working on the Hello post, so that will be up soon. This is a really big pickup for Michigan, Ohio State fans thought they would end up with Strobel a few months ago.
Ranked 4 star per Rivals.
Then let the feasting horn SOUND!!!!!
I'll go play my vuvuzuela
SAAAWEEEET
Believe it when TomVH confirms it.
I get the feeling this might be one of those things that wasn't supposed to be announced yet. Sort of like the Kaleb Ringer situation.
EDIT: Tom has reported it. It is legit.
Countdown for the last DE spot is on...I give it a week for it to be filled...with the winner being...Pittman! Seriously....there is only one spot for the right DE...Washington, Pittman, or Wormley...and bc of that, I believe there will be pressure for that last spot. Wormley said he was going to commit after track so if another DE wants the spot (i.e. Pittman) he better commit...Unfortunalty, this all but ends our bid for Washington IMO
Needs to post the TomVH Call signal.
I love seeing Norm do his thing after Tosh.O, tuesday nights are solid.
Would be a great pickup if true. Source is questionable, but maybe. Didn't TomVH say something about multiple recruits today (June 10th)?
*crosses fingers for our OL*
He also might be able to play multiple positions on the DL.
if Wormley will even make this class. With him dragging his feet and 3 DE's already committed Washington and Strobel or others could get in there first. Maybe they still take him, but commits need to commit already.
with Wormley's frame we could take him in hopes he will be able to bulk up and play DT I guess. Or take him anyway and be set at DE for quite some time
When I read he committed today I had a little chuckle. I think he is the only recruit I ever heard that was upfront about wanting good food from the program he chose.
Does make me wonder though, what do we feed those kids?
If true!
Do we have room to add Wormley or Washington now should they want to come, numbers are starting to get very very tight and hopefully tighter still if a certain west coast lineman does we he just might.
What if Pittman wants to join the party? Do we say no to such a highly rated recruit? I guess those are good problems to have and will have to face it when the time comes.
Last week Sam Webb said if they all wanted to come, Michigan would probably be able to take Stroblel, Wormley, Washington, and Pipkins/other......some of these guys, and the other commits, are versatile enough to move around on the line.
About Se'Von Pittman
Strobel is from Ohio. That's WAY to close to East Lansing for the Spartans to recruit!
If true, welcome to the family Tom!
Is Strobel a strongside DE? Either way - yaaay.
I believe so. Rivals lists him as a WDE but at 6'6" 245, I think he's bound to be an SDE.
I've seen him projected as a WDE, SDE, and 3-tech tackle. OSU recruiting guru Duane Long projects him as a 3-tech because, according to him, OSU offered him as a 3-tech.
forgive my ignorance but I always get confused, is the 3 tech spot the spot Martin is going to be playing in this upcoming season?
Martin is the nose tackle. Why is Martin better at nose and Campbell at 3-tech? I have no idea.
Mike Martin is a very sound defensive tackle. He comes off the LOS low and gains position below the pad level of the OL. Since the NT get routinely double teamed, he needs to stand his ground and not get pushed out of the way. The 3 tech can get away with less leverage due to the fact that he won't be double teamed as much. The 3 tech is more of a disrupter than a hole plugger.
I believe Martin will be the nose tackle still with BWC/Washington/Someone else at 3-tech.
Your 1-Tech (often called the Nose) plays the Center-Guard (1) Gap - Mike Martin, fights through double teams. Prototypically is a huge guy who doesn't get pushed back. Thus far BWC hasn't shown that he can not get pushed back
Your 3-Tech plays the Guard-Tackle (3) Gap - BWC/QWash for now. Prototype is a physical freak who can beat single linemen and rush up the middle. Think Warren Sapp or more recently, Suh or Fairley
Discussed here: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mattisons-defense-martin-ngata
So yeah, based on spring practices, MM probably will be used as the anchor of the line (1-tech/NT) but Mattison will use him in a number of ways.
Roh will be the WDE (it's the weak side of the offensive formation - see how they have fewer guys to that side?), BWC will be at DT (3-tech), then MM at NT, then RVB at SDE, then Cam Gordon at SLB (Sam). Demens will be devouring souls at Mike when he's not nervously looking to his left wondering who's playing Will today. The RVB SDE position needs to be a larger, stronger body. It's important Strobel can play there given Pharaoh Brown and Ojemudia already look to be WDE's. I thought Godin was the perfect SDE, but he may have to move inside to 3-tech. Strobel looks a little thin for that spot.
Kinda the same thing but a bit more comprehensive chart for those that don't know about alignments and techniques.
Double Post my bad
Would the coaches really take Pittman and Wormley now? Maybe Wormley or Godin can slide over to DT?
Adolphus Washington
If the guys can play, they will see plenty of game action because of DL rotation. If Mattison wants to attack like a mad man...he is going to need plenty capable bodies to play those positions.
Looks like it's legit. Here's the story from the local paper that includes comments from both Tom and his coach.

Looks good enough for me as long as they didn't go all Dayton news with this. Either way, Welcome Tom!
He's well spoken for being a high school kid. Smart is good. Welcome aboard, Tom . . . .
FWIW - the commitment is up on Rivals and Scout now . . .
at either bucknuts or 11warriors, so am going to note this as "unproven"
Here we have a quote from a Bucknut calling himself squirrelboy - "We may beat Michigan during the season but I think that the next couple of off-season's will be brutal...I may have to try to develop a real social life during the fall and not spend my free time on Bucknuts looking for updates!:)"
Stroebel definitely like TSIO. This may be the first indicatoin of the Tressel effect. Not that he would not have chosen us, but to chose us this soon is kind of shocking.
Agreed. I think Mentor is Tressel's home town. Love the irony.
a strong possibility? I hope so because if this is true, Strobel, Wormley, Washington and Mario O is a pretty fantastic haul at DE. If we can get Pipkins and Day, watch out. Talk about a D Line.
