Harbaugh vs THE COOK JINX

Submitted by JCV16 on

For all the talk about Brian being a grumpy pessimist, he has actually been pretty rosy about Michigan (at least as far back as I found predictions). He overestimates our win total by an average of 1.33 (repeating of course) wins per season.

What will happen this year? Is Cook a jinx-laying monster who should be required to eat another lemon? Harbaugh? Harbaugh!

2009: Cook 7-5, actual 5-7

2010 Cook 7-5, actual 7-5 (BOOM COOKED)

2011: Cook 8-4, actual 10-2 (last coach's first year. Hope? Harbaugh.)

2012: Cook 9-3, actual 8-4

2013: Cook 10-2, actual 7-5

2014: Cook 9-3, actual 5-7

2015: Cook 7-5, actual HARBAUGH

EDIT: ACTUALLY 8-4, I'M DUMB

Trends

  • The last time we had a new coach, we exceeded his prediction by 2 wins. Harbaugh!
  • The last time he predicted 7-5, we went 7-5. SHUT UP BRAIN, HARBAUGH!!!!
  • EDIT: ACTUALLY 8-4, I'M DUMB, IGNORE
  • Most of the overoptimisticness comes the last 2 years. So this was a pointless excercise. Enjoy!

In closing,

Harbaugh

I was literally jumping up and down and too excited. But College Football Live on FOX is live at the stadium and they were previewing the game and Harbaugh and the team walk in for their walkthrough. SO PUMPED! Harbaugh was PISSED there were live cameras. It's messing with the teams schedule, they were just supposed to be on the field for 10 minutes but the show was live and will be until 8p. Drake Johnson DID travel, saw him...he's walking around with the rest of the guys getting a field. Baxter took the ST's out to midfield and immediately started coaches while the other guys wandered in. Harbaugh was searching for the FOX producer to shut things down. He's got a HUGE chaw in that he's going to catch hell for I'm sure...spitting on the field and it's on live TV. The FOX guys even referenced it and Dave Wannstedt joked that was the reason he was now in the booth rather than coaching. They're having a meeting on the field right now...Harbaugh addressing the players.

Played football with Jim Harbaugh when I was undergrad. They all dipped, so did I although almost none of my fellow ruggers held a pouch back in the day. I have a slightly receded gumline on the side I used to chaw. Thinking of heading out to buy some dip tonight, Copehagen or Kodiak, for the game tomorrow and spitting in an OSU cup I borrowed. Don't start chewing kids, it's bad, m'kay? For the rest of us it brings back memories of being rather wired up, particularly because we chawed while drinking alcohol.

Kissing a babe without removing dip garnered man points back then. You had to be a stud to get away with that routinely.

...but you know how the PC people are...and he's doing it around the players and on live TV, yadda yadda yadda.

Obama smokes cigs and we all know it, but we don't see it...and that makes it A okay to the general public.

That's all I was saying. Don't be surprised if someone tries to make it a big deal and it's one of those topics on PTI or something "something or nothing" "big deal, little deal, or no deal at all"...didn't mean to imply the world was coming to an end. But I was going 100mph actually seeing everything live that I made it out to be bigger than it was.

But he did hock a big brown loogie right on to the FieldTurf with the camera zoomed in on him. It was kinda gross, lol.

I'm really surprised he's gotten a pass on it from the media so far.  When they get bored with everything else (soon) they are going to come down on this hard.

I wonder if Hackett / /Schlissel have had any conversations with him about it?  It's not the bset look for a college coach.

It was just cool to see...he caught an over the shoulder pass.

They easily could've just been playing catch, like, you know...football players play.

Fuck it. Charles Woodson 2.0...LET'S GOOOOO!!!

Hoke was all bark and no bite. I always drank the kool aid and believed in his empty promises of toughness and accountability. Now we know what our coach is capable of. I wouldn't pay too much attention to predictions in prior years because I feel most people were bullish on Hoke and no one really understood how incompetent he was until last season.

I feel like everyone's been burned too many times and played their optimistic fool card for the last time. It seems the media in general is settling in at the seven win mark. I just feel like if Harbaugh is going to win seven then why wouldn't he win at least eight or nine? We have 3-4 high caliber opponents if you count Utah. So much will be decided with tomorrow's game, obviously. I think Brian knows a lot, like a shit ton. I'm sure his eight wins has been strongly thought out. I'd be happy with eight wins. I think we get nine.

All of the top 30 teams or so have solid raw talent coming in, with few exceptions.  Michigan has waaaay better than top 30 input coming in the front door.  And now they have a proven developer, at every level, to multiply it.  Sure, it might take more than spring and summer camps for the development to take affect, but it will.

8 is a very sober number.  If Harbs had been here for a year already, it would be considered a disaster for 2015.  The planet will resume spinning on its proper axis sooner than later.
