Maize N Brew puts out an awful lot of content.
I sometimes remember fondly back to the days of yore when MGoBlog used to put out a similar amount of content.

better than a lot of awful content. ba dum tssss.
ill see myself out
Is it not awful? I have a vague recollection of them having really bad articles and i havent clicked on them in years

I sometimes remember fondly back to the days of yore when Magnus used to put . . . extra stuff on his page. Sigh . . .
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:54 AM ^
Man I guess I’m the opposite. I didn’t go there for the extras. Plenty of places to go online to see that. If I want football, I want football.
been a long time since I’ve been to TTB. Maybe I’ll venture back.
I just come for the neg’s and toxicity.

Sure do miss Brian writing for the site on a more regular basis.
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
Same here. No disrespect to Seth or Alex or Matt or whomever else is currently contributing to MGoBlog but nobody can take Brian Cooks place.
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:02 AM ^
One of the good parts about football season is Brian being more active on the site. Both in writing and on the podcasts.
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
I don't know what's wrong with me but I just can't get into podcasts. It's not MGoBlog it's all of them.
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
I need to be doing something mindless if I'm going to listen to a podcast. I can't just sit there, nor can I retain anything if I'm doing a complicated task at work.
They're great for driving, playing video games, doing chores, etc...
I only listen to podcasts when I'm driving, cooking, or working out. I don't think you're alone in that regard. I do a lot of all of those things so podcasts are great for me.
Meh, I'm in the same boat as darker blue, I'd rather drive or do chores in silence than listen to a podcast. Videogames i play usually have audio i enjoy.
I will listen to podcasts if it's interesting but that's what im doing, im not doing anything else. I'll pause it if I have to do something else. but i know im in the minority.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
Gotta say that the MGoBlog podcasts could use a refresh. The bits are getting kinda stale and if I'm honest, Seth & Brian don't seem to have great chemistry when they're the two carrying the show.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:13 PM ^
In the days of yore, when Ace was still on the podcasts, he and Brian had great chemistry. To the point of being outright rude to Seth on occasion (sometimes it felt like more occasion than not). Nonetheless, the site misses nothing without Ace - especially regarding football.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
Seems that Ace & Brian were able to disagree and make that work for what they were talking about. When Seth & Brian disagree it either turns into a thing that one of them won't let go of, or one of them just stops talking for the rest of the segment.
It seemed to me that Ace would say something, Brian would disagree, and then Ace would cave in and agree with Brian. Maybe that was in the later podcasts (when Ace was also pretty mean to Seth).
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
Yeah there were some awkward podcasts for sure, but it's gotten a lot better. Not much chemistry between them on air, but at least it's not like before lol.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
I really liked Ace when he first got on board, but man did that dude ever wear out his welcome!
I had somewhat dropped off of Mgoblog during the Ace-exit-era. What did he do to earn the ire of this community?
I don't actually know, but I think a lot of people followed him on Twitter and it sounded like he went on political rants and other rants that people didin't like. I don't do the Twitter, so my testimony is heresay.
The hot take part makes me cringe
I like them since I drive a lot but yes otherwise I would rather read.
Have you listened to the HOT TAKES section of the weekly podcasts during the season? The Sklars are regular contributors to that section. Between their jokes and Brian's crazy wrestling announcer voice, I love those.
Might be the best part of the weekly in-season podcasts.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
I think the RR and Hoke eras and losses to rivals killed his mojo.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
I can relate to Brian. We're very close in age and both have multiple children. This is the busiest I've ever been in my life and every minute is a precious commodity. My guess is that he will become much more active on the blog when his life slows down!
I could be wrong but wasn't this his primary job? I agree with your comment if it's just a side gig for him. As busy as I am with 3 kids, I still need to put a roof over there heads.
Yes, but, (and this is all speculation on my part) I think he has done financially well enough with MGOBLOG that he could afford to contract out a lot of the content work and take a significant step back from it, at least for the time being.
Good for him if that's the case. I didn't think you could make that kind of money from a site like this.
I'm just guessing but I believe he does okay for himself.
Which is awesome. Brian is an Indie Rock Genius in a world full of writers who write like Bryan Adams sings.
August 2nd, 2023 at 11:20 AM ^
Same here although once football season starts that all changes
Sunday - Nothing
Monday - Game Recap (usually around 12-1 pm
Tuesday - Unverified Verocity
Wednesday - UFR & Things in rearview mirror
Thursday - UFR & Neck Sharpies
Friday - Game preview
Saturday - Punt/Counterpunt
I miss Seth's Friday "Best of the Board". Every week I'd check it to see if anything I said was front page worthy and I really miss "this week in schadenfreude" when Brian wrote it. Damn that was funny.
Best new feature IMO is Alex's review of the position groups for all our upcoming games. Same general concept as the immortal Draftegeddon but executed much, much better.

Trolling college football fan message boards for tWiS seems like it'd be bad for your mental health.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
FFFF comes out every week during the game week. Perhaps that's what your last paragraph is referring to.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:33 PM ^
No. TWIS (This Week In Schadenfreude) was a column Brian wrote back before the days of yore. It preceded FFFF and was much better.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:42 PM ^
"Michigan Monday" on, ya know, Monday, which someone here always links to, is usually a pretty good read. Especially the past two years.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Maizenbrew is the Huffingtonpost to MgoBlog's NYTimes. I actually learn a lot from MgBlog. Maizenbrew is just some whims the writers have on a given day. Often it's nothing new or notable, just someone's opinion about something.
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:46 PM ^
That's actually a pretty fair comparison.
Well, calling something the nytimes is a huge insult in my book. I suppose it's not quite as trashy as the huffingpost but id rather not read any trash at all.
But yes, i really like mgoblog too.

I give Maize and Brew credit for putting out a lot of content especially stuff from interviews and press releases, but a lot of it tends to miss the depth you get here. For example they've got a preview up about Maryland as a team that is about 9 paragraphs long but only 15 sentences. By comparison, the section about Maryland's QB rankings this week alone was 18 sentences long. So yeah, it's "content" but sort of the bare minimum. I much prefer what this site puts out, even though I agree I'd like to see more.

“Tommy Doman as a punter, he’s a special talent,” Harbaugh said. “We haven’t seen a leg like this since I’ve been here at Michigan. I think he’s in a great place right now and attacking everything.”
Considering we have had some very good punters in the Harbaugh era... I'm feeling a lot better about the unknown punting situation now

Since this is not Spring camp, I feel justified in believing every single word regardless of context.
OUR NEW PUNTER IS THE NEW GOLDEN GOD OF PUNTING!!!!!
August 2nd, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
Iowa jokes notwithstanding, an elite punter can really be a game changer. You never know when you might be in a tight one, and if you can flip the field or even get out from your own 10 to the opponent 35, you’ve done some damage. It also limits your opponent’s opportunities for big plays on returns.

And I walked in and sat down and they gave me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the phsychiatrist, room 604."
And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL, " and he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL."
And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."
