Harbaugh 97.1 quote

Submitted by Berger04 on November 30th, 2021 at 9:04 AM

Harbaugh said Hutchinson told him after the game that “It was the best day of my life.” Harbaugh said “I told him It was right there with me too.” It will be till the day they throw dirt on top of me”. “ I have received letters from 100’s of people from different generation s, but the older generations say it is up there if not better than ‘69.
Wow, as much success as Harbaugh has had in his life, this is one, if not the greatest day of his life… just awesome. Go Blue!

(I’m 45 and It was definitely one of the greatest events in my life, glad I was there to experience it.)

As much as everyone loves money, if you love your college life coming back your last year is the right choice because you only get that college experience once. I don’t have a100 million dollar contract but am definitely in the top 5 percent of earners but life was a blast as a poor college kid. Nothing can replace it.

I'm a '93 grad and happy to see that Rick's kept $1 pitchers going until at least '00. Can any current students say what the price is in '21?

Growing up in and around Lansing, I also got to experience drinking on the cheap at the Rick's in EL. One way I always explained the difference between M and MSU to folks from outside of the state is that in Ann Arbor you can get drunk on the cheap in a packed bar on Friday and Saturday nights. In EL, its pretty much 6 days a week. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but it was from the late 80s through the mid 90s.

Being in the stadium after the game last weekend, basking in the win, I had a similar thought; that this is what it must have felt like in 1969.

I was there with my kids and told them you have no idea that you just experienced one of the greatest days in Michigan football history.  And I said to them it was one of the best days of my life too.  I told my wife I don’t think I could have scripted the day any better had I tried… just magical.

It was amazing seeing all the joy coming out of that stadium.  Euphoria was everywhere, just an unreal experience!

I hope you clarified that with your wife and followed up with, "The best day of my life being the day I married you."

Lol, when I called my wife after the Game I told her "besides our wedding, this might have been the most fun I've ever had."  Got to preface it that way because they don't forget that kind of comment.

It was, for the first time in a long time, an end to a regular season where I thought happily about where there is still to do, not with some disappointment over what we might have been able to do. It's difficult to put fairly into words what that feeling is like, but it was relaxing....and quite nice.

My freshman year, we beat OSU 22-0 and it was a great day, but I don't remember anything but the score.  We were so spoiled by our successes back then that great victories weren't as important.

This one I'll remember the rest of my life.  I've got tickets for the game on Saturday, but I expect that winning the Big Ten won't be nearly as memorable as this was.

My 50th Birthday celebration with my son and son in law. We got to rush the field. My old butt couldn’t get up the wall in the end zone coming off the field so some kind man behind gave me a boost. Besides that humbling experience, It was the greatest game ever! To spend it with my son and son in law who grew up in Texas but is now the biggest Michigan fan was just incredible! I looked over at him at the end of the game and he’s yelling louder than us! Unreal!

I told my wife, when she was wondering why I was watching it again, that this was Michigan's biggest win since 1969 - and I don't remember any of that game.  I was at Bo's final win over OSU in 1989 and at PSU in 1997, and neither of those come close to this game.  I remember watching a shitload of big huge wins over the years, including flashes of Denny Franklin.  Nothing comes close to this.

I don't know where all the dust and onions came from in my private viewing room at home Saturday afternoon.  But no other football game has provided such a cathartic release of emotion in my lifetime.

What. A. Win.

To add on here...  On Nov 23 there was a post about where this win would rank on your personal list.  I said it would be #2, behind the 1998 Rose Bowl National Championship win.  Well, I now want to reorder my top 5 and place this win at #1.  The relief felt, the way they won, the outlook for the future...  This win established the new future of Michigan football.

BTW, that post was found on page 9.  There have been 6 pages of posts made since the game was played Saturday.  SIX!!!  I've never seen this board so active!

I graduated in 1966.  The 1969 game was much bigger.  Bo was unproven, OSU was the top ranked team in the country (by far), UofM's football program did not have a winning tradition, and the result set the table for the 10-year war & 30+ years of winning.

Well, what was Michigan's tradition like for the last 15-20 years, and how does that compare to the time between the Mad Magicians and Bo?  At least Michigan had been to a Rose Bowl in the 1960s.  Also, Michigan wasn't bad in 1968, they were 8-2 and finished #12 in the country.  And Bo was unproven, but many (including plenty here) felt that Harbaugh was proven to not be "the guy."  In both cases, Michigan had been absolutely crushed in the previous meeting, with the OSU coach proudly talking about running the score up.  OSU wasn't #1 by far this year, but #2 is still pretty damn good and they had an all-time offense that was significantly limited by our defense.  The parallels are strong.

The 1969 game is bigger now in the context of history because of what came after it, but if Michigan beats Iowa and makes the playoff, and Harbaugh just achieves parity with Ohio State after the worst two decades for Michigan in the rivalry's history, I think the wins become equal in magnitude.  But it's already in the conversation at this point with the most important wins in Michigan football history.

I had to stop watching sports literally after 2019 OSU game. I have been at this for a long time and I just could not control my emotions. So, I have to give it up. My work, life, and health was severely affected by stress. I had to give up my fandom to take the emotions off the table. I literally did not watch a single sports event since that OSU game in 2019. New job for similar pay, less working hours, better health, I got back into Michigan FB at the beginning of 2021 season. I told myself to relax and not get too attached. I am glad I did. I get to have one of my top 5 moments of my life on that day. Unbelievable feeling. Still smiling.

The only game in my lifetime that was as good is 1997 at Penn State.

That was on the road, but I was there, and I will never forget how well we played in such a big game.

I can see it from Harbaugh and Hutchinson's perspective and everyone else playing or coaching in that game. I'm sure for most of the players this was easily the most joyous occasion of their young lives. I can see for how the coaches - with a touch of recency bias perhaps - this might have been the greatest moment of their professional lives and of course if that's your profession it consumes such a huge part of your life, it may well feel like it's your whole life.

However if that was the greatest day of your life as a fan, man, you might want to inspect your life and consider that you may want to do something amazing yourself that you can enjoy to that level rather than relying on strangers to do you these favors. The flip side of such emotional dependence on sports teams isn't a pretty picture.

Please explain how he's twisting your words when that's exactly what you said?

If you didn't "mean it that way" that's on you for not communicating clearly. They literally responded to what you actually typed. We can't read your mind.

Maybe you should have actually typed what you meant then?
