Harbaugh's Defensive Assistants

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on November 1st, 2020 at 5:21 PM

How can Harbaugh look at Ohio State's recruiting and what his CBs are doing in practice and hire Bob Shoop who can't recruit for shit to add to a staff of Nua, Brown, and Zordich who also can't recruit for shit? How can they continue to sign kids from Massachusetts that wouldn't be able to hack it playing for Eastern Michigan?

A lot of people on this blog accused anyone who criticized recruiting as concern trolling. The reality is these issues don't get fixed next year either because CB and DT recruiting have been so poor. Maybe they can scour the transfer portal but the lack of talent on this team especially on defense is staggering.

Green is solid. I have no issue with the kid. He has some speed and some of these flags are GARBAGE calls. MSU's mini CB from Cass did the EXACT same jersey tug and no flag. Them the breaks.

Vincent Gray... I don't want to go on the kid but he's not a corner. Safety perhaps. He was a late offer in a class that was underwhelming. Would he start at Michigan state? I don't know.

You seriously think the only play MSU DBs were grabbing was the one that the announcers pointed out?  We got screwed by the refs all game. There were some obvious late hits by MSU in the 1st half that weren't called. Their line was holding a bunch and I don't think it got called once.

That said our corners and d tackles are so bad I don't even care

You know what's funny? Everyone is talking like it's a foregone conclusion that Harbaugh is on the hot seat. Do people even realize that Warde is not firing the guy this year, and probably not next year either barring back to back sub-500 seasons or something else catastrophic.

This is going to be an 8-4/9-3 team every year under Harbaugh, they'll lose to OSU, and probably be .500 against MSU. And nothing will change.

I get that it’s fun to shit on Harbaugh right now, but you don’t have to be dumb as fuck while doing so. In what world is playing a game at Nebraska a tough game to mention along with actual challenging games? If at Nebraska is a toss up game that is similar to OSU, PSU, and Wisky, then going 7-5 is not possible. Pick a logical criticism and stick to that line of thinking.

I completely agree. Harbaugh isn’t going anywhere. He will be the coach here until he decides he doesn’t want to do it anymore.  I’m okay with it because his name still carries some weight. He needs to fill his staff with relentless recruiters. Get some young guys who are hungry and willing to work 24/7/365 at recruiting. Jim doesn’t have to be the guy climbing trees and having sleepovers. He just needs to walk into a living room every now and then to finalize a commitment.

Michigan has the facilities, tradition, and alumni base to make this an elite place to spend 3-5 years as a college player. I don’t care if they are the best coach, just as long as they can recruit the best players. I doubt Ryan Day or Dabo know half as much about football as Harbaugh, but they win because they have better players. That can change and Harbaugh can be the coach that gets them to that level, but he needs to surround himself with great recruiters.

JFC, I’m going to assume you mean Harbaugh knows more about the history of the game, starting with the leather helmet days.  You surely can’t mean that he knows more about the game in 2020 when offenses need to do more than “establish the run”.   I really hope that was sarcasm and not based on the amazing game plans and wizard like adjustments you’ve seen from the team.

What????  DHughes....  you're joking right? It's dumbasses like you who cling to this Michigan Man, Tradition bullshit. More recruiting? He has been in the top 10 nationally recruiting since he started and STILL fails to develop players to their potential. Face reality dude, Harbaugh is NOT A GOOD COACH!

I guess if you and people like you need to cling to mediocrity in order to sleep at night,  then hold tight my man.

The trajectory of this program doesn’t lend itself to 8-4/ 9-3. The team has gotten worse with Harbaugh recruits and the transfer portal has allowed so many with talent to leave, if they didn’t already declare early.  We are not at rock bottom, yet.  We are on the path to being Purdue, sans the win over OSU.    Harbaugh lost the locker room at least two years ago.

Maybe not but if Harbaugh does leave in the next year or so I think yesterday's game may be the critical tipping point. The press had several articles basically saying he's hit his limit here and the fan base is really starting to turn against him. Not sure what's going to happen but if it doesn't change soon it's going to get ugly especially if there's another OSU blowout.

I think he’s going to have to clean house on the defensive coaching staff to save his job. Only person that can stay is Jean Mary. Is Nua bad or does he not have the right parts? Idk and I don’t care anymore. He’s not an obvious asset. Brown obviously has to go. He isn’t calling the plays like he did at BC and year 1. Apparently Shoop already left. And Zordich I guess he’s a good teacher, but I get the feeling he rubs guys the wrong way and doesn’t recruit hard enough. Sims transferred and Lewis has thrown shade at the coaches since being drafted. Hill and Long both seemed to dislike him as well. I think it’s time for a change.

3rd consecutive coach who has ruined his head coaching career at Michigan. Do they pump downers into the air in Ann Arbor? We are a top 4 program in the big ten but honestly how does a superb coaching resume and a superb program add up to this?

What is the problem? It cannot be just one thing.

Harbaugh seems to have the Ohio State game years ago negatively impact his fire.

What is the Culture like for this team?

How much has OSU being a top 4 contender negatively impacted us?

Why does the D seem worse? We need Hokes D lines with this offense.

I felt apathetic yesterday; knew we would lose after watching first half.

This has nothing to do with the OSU game in 2016 and I wish that tired narrative would die already.  The only impact or the 2016 OSU game is that it was the last regular season game gifted that Harbaugh with the Seniors being Hole recruits. With the exception of  the 2018 anomaly, it’s been downhill ever since.  Conference wins, 2017 5, 2018 8, 2019 6, 2020 2, maybe.
When players would rather go undrafted than come back for another year, it’s a pretty good sign the locker room was lost.  Our QB of the future can’t complete a pass more than 10 yard past the LOS, the one who could, transferred.

Well Chris Balas just dropped breaking news that Bob Schoop hasn’t been on the coaching staff since September and apparently left over an argument with another defensive staff member gee I wonder who?
