Great article on Sam McGuffie

He looked pretty good his freshman season here. It's a shame his career didn't pan out the way many of us thought it would.
Thanks for posting, though. Seems like a cool dude and I wish him luck in his Olympic aspirations.

Incredible athlete. Good to see McGuffie utilizing his abilities with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Absolutely. Just because football doesn't work out, doesn't mean you should curb and hang up your cleats and give up. Very honorable to keep trying and using the gifts as so many many would give up so much to have that athleticism.

That was from Bleacher Report? Quite a read. I remember watching that video almost a decade ago. The kid was amazing. I hope he makes it to the olympics in 2018.

Adam Kramer does some amazing things for BR. In general, BR cfb has stepped up their game tremendously.

others had good ones but I was stunned when a female cousin of mine that doesn't really care about football made a random joke about it. We were talking about when I played in HS and she made a joke something like "I bet your tape would have been better than Sam McGuffie", busting my balls a bit. I lol'd as I realized just how popular that video was.

I remember being so excited about this kid, and so sure that he would be a perfect fit in the RR offense. Glad to see he's doing well!

There's a little Cool Runnings in this story. I'm in favor of anything that resembles Cool Runnings. He's Sanka!

Hey, Sanka. Ya dead?
Ya, mon.

McGuffie is a once-in-a-generation athelete.

As in a house fly generation or human generation?

I don't understand why people still post about McGuffie. He played at Michigan only one year, that being in 2008, probably the worst year in Michigan Football history. He ran for less than 500 yards at 4.1 per run, and had 3 rushing touchdowns. I get that people liked his highlight tape, but fir the love of god, let it go! it's been 8 years and we have Harbaugh now, time to stop reminiscing about 2008!
September 24th, 2016 at 6:06 AM ^
There was a LOT of hype about him (Fred Jackson generating about 12% of that hype). It doesnt seem that long ago. I dont see why we need to cast him aside as if he did something wrong--he didnt. To say what you did, youd really have to be a ... no, I will resist. Thats too easy. I will just politely disagree, you Dick.

that kid played tough here, as a frosh. I remember him getting annihilated running inside. harbaugh could've used a guy like that

during a royal fustercluck of a season. And, sadly, that 4.1 yd average you note is not that far off from most of our RBs since then!

Living up to your name again, I see.

You say "reminiscing" as if we're wistfully longing for days of yore.
It was a well-written and interesting article about a player who was part of the Michigan program. I enjoyed reading it. I shared it here, because I thought others might enjoy reading it as well.

I really would've loved to see him lined up in the backfield next to Denard. The threat of his legs opened up things so much. I don't think he ever was capable of being an every down back, but he could've been like a Danny Woodhead, Darren Sproles, Dexter McCluster type.
I'm happy that he found success in life. Seems like a good, humble guy.

I think it was the msu game when he got absolutely crushed. I remember standing in the stands believing I had just watched somebody become paralyzed. I was relieved when he transferred to Rice, don't think he would have survived had he stayed.

I remembered that after I made the post -- I definitely recall seeing Bush's high school video and just giggling with a coworker as we watched it. But my comment was intended more in the context of Michigan recruits (though I did not specify that).

As a Houstonian I've followed Sam since early HS days when the word was starting to spread. People must remember that he performed at an elite level against Texas HS football (Greater Houston). This wasn;t some kid in West Texas playing 7 on 7 against future pecan farmers.
I believe he might have stayed without the concussions and if his grandma had lived a few years longer. He was the 'dad' of his family at that time and I think he felt obligated to take care of them when she passed.

was the reason how I found MGOBLOG... when all of the rumors of him transferring started I was looking all over the Internet for answers and stumbled upon this place and it was an instant addiction...
September 24th, 2016 at 9:04 AM ^
lack of blocking. The multiple concussions were a worry though as long as he played football.

He is guy with unique abilities that really don't translate well to Big Ten football or the NFL - if you read the article, you realize why he didn't make it as a back at Michigan. Too small. Even at Rice he couldn't do it, they converted him to a receiver. This was OK in Conf USA, wouldn't make it in Big Ten or NFL as a receiver.
I doubt that Harbaugh would have went after him - again too small for his type of offense.
Glad he found a sport that fits his abilities and size.

Imagine if he'd stayed, Denard had moved to RB immediately, Gardner moved to WR immediately and Tate was the QB. That would have been a pretty cool offense to see. Still had a craptastic defense and RR probably would still be gone, but the offense would have been more fun.
