Grantland's Takedown of College Basketball Rap Videos
Grantland has a regular feature where their basketball writer, Mark Titus (not the guys with unhealthy admirable obessession with Burke) ranks top 12 teams in college basketball.
But the ranking is not the good part (though there is a very good takedown of Green-less MSU). The really funny part is at the bottom where he goes off on the very disturbing trend of kids making rap videos for their school basketball team.
To quote:
First there was "This Is Indiana." Then there was "Boiler Up." And finally, at long last, this week we got the third installment of the "Everyone Associated With Your School Hates You Because You Are the Whitest People in the World and You Just Embarrassed the Entire Fan Base With Your Shitty Rap Video" trilogy.
I just pray that no well-meaning but clueless kids produce "We are Michigan (fergodsakes)" video. If you know ANYONE trying to create one, beat him senselessly until he stops. Friends don't let friends make whitest rap videos ever.

You know, I am trying to picture Smotz and Stu rapping (Zach, I can see) and my mind refuses to even entertain the thought. I am not sure how that would be even possible...

smotz is so so uncordinated could you see him doing some gangstar dancing and trying to hype the crowd up ?? I am laughing just thinking bout him as a gangstar rapper

David Cone would like you to entertain the thought.

You realize Mark Titus is the Ohio St bench guy from the last four years right?

And recipient of buckeye hate for his views on Tres and the cars he saw football players driving during his time on campus.

You obviously are not familiar with David Cone.

Back off, chief. Coner had mad flow.

does anyone have a link or know if they are still on youtube?

I always liked Mark Titus. I had a feeling he would get a writing gig somewhere. He had a blog (Club Trillion) about his experiences at the end of the bench at OSU. Good stuff.

Completely forgot about that. I did read some of his stuff in Club Trillion...

Let me guess the Grantland intro to the Missouri video....
"We fired up the Airbook to check out the latest questionable "We Are" whitebread boy video. In between sips of stolen Pepsi Max (thanks Teresa!) and the slow Comcast corporate connection, our eyes were met with stumbling, bumbling 19 year old acting the fool. If dressing in Abercrombie and grabbing your bros, beers and crotches were art, Missouri would get an A."

I'm pretty sure Stu and Zach could rap better than Petway. My MSU family still give me a hard time about that.

While utterly terrible, that still managed to be quite entertaining. Very sad to see it 7 years after the fact.

I'm sure you're all going to hate me for this, but the This Is IU video is really well done. It's certainly cheesy but it's also a bit tongue-in-cheek. The chick throws a chair! There's a middle-aged man dancing at :58s. I don't know if I'm impressed or if We Are ND has lowered my standards that badly.

Mark Titus is a interesting character. Also...
Dear Maize Rage,
NEVER DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
EVER.

My lyrics to "That Shit Trey" aka "Niggaz in Paris" are very close to being finished.
